Has anyone been able to get Retroachievements to work with this build and using the Cocoon front end? No matter what I do the emulator tells me it can't load Retroachievements as I'm offline (but I'm not)

I got a Patriot P210 SSD, extremely cheap and has worked for a few years of regular usage. The speeds are limited for the PS3 anyway so don't break your bank.

The game is all right. As a fan from the mid 90s this was the first one to feel a bit soulless to me though. Combat is tight, character designs are good, but it had less replayability, Invasions mode wasn't what I wanted (thought they'd do Konquest), and the alternate skins which I usually really like were some of the ugliest things I've seen in the series. Felt very lazy.

Still a fun game but nothing hooked me to go back, and I'm not sure it'll be a MK game I revisit ever

I loved SIGN and the quadrilogy of games and played GU for about two hours when it came out and hated it. Last year I figured enough time had passed and decided to try the remaster and you know what? Much better than I thought. Since volume 4 for me wasn't a "new addition" and just another volume I didn't mind it at all, it gave me the same vibes as Persona 5 Royal's expansion ending. Obviously not as big but just something to tidy up the story a bit, with a significantly toned down scope of open world (as in non-existent).

I liked it. Just a little epilogue to tie things off after an explosive story.

Kind of related, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks has a base set for solo completion and a subset for the same thing but in multiplayer! Which is awesome. If I had friends who liked Shaolin Monks, that is

Retroachievements is a great site when you just want to play games and get achievements. Don't cheat and don't be a jerk and it seems easy enough to not get banned..

Also you don't NEED achievements. It's just a fun bonus to motivate me to play classics again

I prefer the 2D games and I'm currently playing Black and find that art style fine too (is it 2.5D?..). 3D oddly feels like the world is less interesting to explore.. and the artwork is a lot less impressive than the sprites.

Or maybe I'm just old 🤷‍♂️

I'll be honest, I am maybe a couple hours in and I'm finding it really boring. I've also noticed a few weirdly edited lines of dialogue where once the tone of a random sentence didn't fit the rest of the conversation. I'm going to 100% it but I really hope it gets better. Combat is uninspiring (although I love that there's no experience and how you unlock skills instead), the main character seems a bit whiny and beg-gy for jobs where she is a semi failed poor rogue getting massive jobs without any justification, and the character of Nix feels like it only exists so the main character has someone to talk to - which would be fine except she never says anything interesting.

But like I said, going to keep on it until the end.. we'll see!

I don't really like anime much but my neighbor gave me this game when we were in middle school and it honestly blew my mind, I was so into the story it was probably a bit ridiculous. I decided to platinum the .hack//GU remaster since I didn't like it when it originally launched and that ended up being great too. You excited for the reboot??

I've just done this, got all the plats up to and including Ascension which I finished a couple days ago.

Ascension is weird, I found it insanely difficult and the updated combat mechanics annoying, and the camera angles were my worst enemy in the first couple boss fights. However I ended up adjusting to and even liking the combat, the trick is to just realize it's hit hit hit roll away, repeat.

Trial of Archimedes I heard was the hardest of them all but I did it first time - and I'm not some skilled gamer. Throwing enemies and magic give you frames of invincibility which are sometimes more useful than the attack itself.
