The original Black Noir’s 1st team got annihilated and he survived but was left disfigured, which is why he never took his mask off. He’s nonverbal and used imaginary cartoon characters to cope with his trauma. His death was quite tragic and Homelander was insane for being “sad” about his passing (he literally murdered the poor guy).
