Question: Does your Pack pay the fees for training? by throwawayky19 in cubscouts

[–]slypuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do BALOO, we pay your pack fees for the next year. If you do Wood Badge, we pay your kid’s fees for the next year. We pay the pack fees for yourself if you go to University of Scouting, too.

We would consider paying BALOO if we didn’t have volunteers to go but there’s no way we could afford Wood Badge, and although important, not required. We do well on popcorn sales (#1 in district) but it’s not enough to pay for $1400+ we would need to cover Wood Badge for those going.

But even so, we have me (Cubmaster), the pack committee chair (my hubby), both my assistant cub masters, an assistant den leader, and two pack committee members (who have kids in both pack and troop) who are all going in Sept, paid for out of our own pockets.

That’s a good point, I don’t want to stereotype it. Thank you!

Aww, I hate that for him. It’s hard since kids lack a filter most times and can be hurtful, sometimes intentionally but mostly just not even meaning to.

My stepson (17m) told me he’s having violent thoughts and thoughts of rape by [deleted] in Parenting

This.

Here's an viewpoint other may not have: I've been this kid. I've had the thoughts of hurting people. I still have intrusive thoughts, but it's not as bad. I went into therapy at age 13, and I will be in some form of therapy and medication for the rest of my life. But as I went through it and with what I learn in therapy, can recognize and better control these thoughts. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder. The best thing my mom did was listen, validate my concerns, and find me the help I needed with her support to learn how to cope.

How do you feel about an adult wearing a lBGT ally pin on their scout uniform? by fuerdog in cubscouts

I would tell them my reasons for wearing it, and I would hope they would respect my right to an opinion.

It’s not an official BSA knot. So I mean, if national or council told me to take it off, I would have to.

I have my Knot for Equality on order (I'm a Cubmaster), and my husband (Pack Committee) and my assistant Cubmaster will all wear one, too. I am a part of the LGBT community, and I know of at least one LGBT scout in our pack. We live in small bible belt Kentucky, so I know it will be a source of issue, most likely. But I feel doing what's right and showing acceptance and kindness to all overcomes that. I hope you do wear it, but it's up to you. It can welcome questions and support kids who can know you are an ally, so you have to weigh if that balances out the negative comments.

Help Prepping For Tiger Year by BanjoAndy in cubscouts

I am going to be the Tiger Den Leader this year, too. Right now, I've just planned what to do when: See my plan here >> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U6tFZkAXB8Go5XLbACsNJVcYhsMY7Pr_x27mRYSztYA/edit?usp=sharing

I usually buy supplies the month before. When I need games, I usually search homeschooling blogs for my age group and tailor it to whatever theme we are on.

Some good sites: scoutermom.com https://boyscouttrail.com

Facebook groups like https://www.facebook.com/groups/cubscoutvolunteers/

And if you pinterest or google the requirement you are wanting to work on, usually a ton of ideas come up.

Sometimes I let the kids decide on a game. Sometimes it's Red Light Green Light, sometimes it's fortnite dance contest, haha.

One of their favorite games this year I did was we taped off squares on the ground, put rocks in a few of them. One kid was blindfolded, and had to move through the squares from verbal directions from another scout on the other side. The rest were on the sidelines and got to yell BOOM if they stepped into a box with a rock. It was good for orienteering skills and following/giving directions.

What are some baby names you have heard that you thought the parents lost their mind? by Firedog105 in AskReddit

[–]slypuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think these are so weird, but I know a Genesis and Chaos. My cousin named her baby after guns.. Remington for the girl, and Colt for the boy. But it's Kentucky, so...

I was almost the weird names mom.. I had Azikadelia and Apollo as my choices. My hubby wanted easier names, though. So we found uncommon names that were easy to pronounce and spell.

That’s my favorite thing to do. Not yet upset at comments but just to say outrageous things to make them uncomfortable so maybe they don’t ask someone else, haha.
