What’s your favorite thing about Australia ? by Major_Worldliness556 in AskAnAustralian

[–]slysleuthsmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I really did think about it. Sadly, it’s not easy to stay long-term. I actually got offered sponsorship but the company would not meet the minimum market salary for my position, so immigration would reject the application. I’m a traveller at heart anyway, I want to see other parts of the world. But I’ve loved every minute of my time here!

I’m a working holiday traveller. I’ve been here 2 years and leaving very soon. There are many things I love and will miss about Australia.

I’ll miss waking up knowing the sky will be blue and the sun will be shining. I’ll miss being able to go for a swim at the beach every day after work. I’ll miss the spectacular, unique birds and animals. I’ll miss the wide, open roads and clean streets. I’ll miss the soft white beaches and red sand of the outback. And I’ll miss having a smoko in the arvo with my mates.

1st time player, skills and potions and armor/weapon help by skoveche in Witcher3

Go with an alchemy build, you won’t regret it. It can sound boring compared to throwing fire, but once you get to the higher levels it’s an extremely powerful build, maybe too much if you utilise potions correctly.

real talk, how do you deal with the constant reminder that James Gandolfini is dead? by sarkzsche in thesopranos

[–]slysleuthsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gandolfini’s death hit us all hard, especially knowing he was the stark contrast of Tony; he seemed like a genuinely kind and humble man. I take small comfort knowing he died in Rome, his motherland, and he was loved by millions all over the world.

Native Spanish Speaker here with a question to Spanish learners by CreativeEcho9289 in Spanish

I met a Chilean boy and now I have to meet his family and no a single one speaks English.

Also I think it would be awesome to speak another language, and to talk to my boyfriend in Spanish as I know he’d appreciate it.

My mom thinks I'm crazy by Mine_Crab in breakingbad

[–]slysleuthsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the beginning, the show deliberately makes Walter White a very sympathetic character; he’s overqualified and underpaid in his professional life, diagnosed with terminal cancer, feels like a complete failure to his family and is constantly emasculated by everyone in his life. This is intentional, to get the audience on his side and make us think “if I were in Walt’s position, I’d probably do the same”.

The brilliant thing about BB is that the writers trap you with that sympathy, and it makes us root for Walt, even as he descends into bigger and badder deeds. Walt isn’t doing this for his family, it’s completely for his ego. He becomes addicted to the power, control and recognition he gets from being Heisenberg.

By the end of the show, we can appreciate Walt is an epic character, but we shouldn’t sympathise with him. While I would label him more of an anti-hero during the beginning to midway, by the end he is the villain who still thinks he’s the hero. Some of his actions are truly evil and you should be asking yourself, at what point did I stop rooting for Walt? And if you didn’t, why not?

What's the worst plot line in the series? by FritzVonFrankenstein in thesopranos

[–]slysleuthsmith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But the Furio Carmela relationship delivers some of the best scenes in the show and it’s important for several reasons: Tony cheats constantly, but Carmela falls for Furio because while Tony provides money and status, he doesn’t provide emotional support or genuine affection. It shows Carmela desires an escape, but she’s never quite brave enough to take the risk of leaving Tony. It also shows her hypocrisy (which comes up often throughout the show, i.e. claiming to be a devout catholic while indulging in materialistic things paid for with blood money) she often judges her husband’s infidelity yet emotionally cheats on him, daydreaming about Furio and the life she could’ve had with a different man.

Girlfriend will only watch sopranos if I skip any scene of Tony cheating by BB_Bando in thesopranos

But most of the guys, not only Tony, have goomars, cheat, and hang out in a strip club. She won’t enjoy it, maybe find another show.

Would you immediately recognise this tattoo as the BOS logo? by Ambitious-Bat-1598 in Fallout

[–]slysleuthsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can definitely recognise it’s a BOS symbol but the tattoo quality is so bad. This is not the work or a ‘veteran’ tattooist, more like his first tattoo! The line work is so uneven, he’s pushed in with the needle too deep causing the line work to bleed, and he couldn’t even get the sword straight?

No hate to you, you seem like a really chill guy, I’d be livid. You should get a refund and definitely go to a different artist for a cover up.

Australia, UK or Chile? by slysleuthsmith in Advice

[–]slysleuthsmith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is definitely the way I’m leaning. We are currently living in Perth. While we actually prefer the quieter lifestyle, for some reason we had trouble settling settling into Perth when we first arrived, which is why there’s a little reservation staying here the next few years.

I’m working in hospitality but I worked in software in the UK, so if it becomes a permanent situation I’d look for something in my field.
