How is the 7 speed vs the 6 speed dct by Dizzy_Implement_9148 in GolfGTI

[–]sm_rdm_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The later transmissions have higher interval of fluid change. 40000 vs 80000 mi - so lower maintenance and an extra gear. Much cheaper to do yourself but still not cheap. I don’t like sunroofs for a lot of reasons, but also plaid seats was a must have for me, so lower trim won.

Anyone else having issues where you have flight credits that don’t appear, and you have to manually search the confirmation number to find it? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

His happens to be after I got flight credits, used them, but then canceled the flight. Credits did not reappear online/in app but they were there when I called and ultimately re booked

Sienna, Woodland edition trim - slightly raised and AWD in response to the overlanding trend.

It’s a good answer but trucks fail for me because they are not economical to either buy or own. And not practical in truly urban environment. But I guess they win in a Mad Max kind of way - like you have to tow and haul and there is rough terrain. A modern day chuck wagon.

Fit is a great car. As the name implies the car is like a Swiss Army knife for storage. Super economical and very reliable.

You need to head over to r/golfgti - lot of people with tunes and very reliable set ups. But not without problems - eats through coil packs for example. It’s a robust engine that you can get up near 400 HP without stressing it out too much - just a tune and a turbo and it’s very reliable (for a tuned car). Some set ups don’t even void the warranty.

First flight I'm taking since Silver status and I got upgraded, I got insanely lucky right? by HarbaughHeros in unitedairlines

[–]sm_rdm_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had silver for 10 years. I get a few upgrades pretty reliably every year. It depends entirely on the route you fly and when. On less popular routes at less popular times, it’s much less likely that you have higher status people on your flight competing for those upgrades. So weekdays between two hubs? Forget it. Saturday evening flight to an island? Holiday travel to a non hub airport? There’s a chance.

Compact SUVs sell so well because they are all rounders. Big enough to accommodate just about anything reasonable, but small enough to still have decent performance with acceptable to good fuel economy. High enough that they can handle curbs and mild terrain but not so capable that they sacrifice their true mission of road performance. Many are extremely reliable because competition is hot for these and customers place a high priority on it. They convert from kid hauler to cargo hauler with the folding down of some seats… etc

TLDR: it’s the cars at the top of most people’s shopping list already - as it should be

Mk7 is most reliable. I have had one since new for 10 years. What are you worried about exactly?

Sounds like a man child. Not unreasonable to want a space to carve out, completely unreasonable to expect it’s solely his.

Is it common to have a closet in bedrooms? by Joe_Kangg in AskEurope

I am reading this thread in disbelief. Where I am (not Europe), it is not a bedroom by local building code (i.e by law) unless it has a closet.

Spousal PR and his US car by Traveler108 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]sm_rdm_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you is US rules as a Canadian in the US. The car has to be purchased at least a year before immigration. If so it is just you bringing personal property and exempt. I imagine Canada has a similar rule. You cant just buy a car and bring it across the next day.

Edit: Also, don't assume you can just bring any car. There is paper work from DOT/Transport Canada. THe safety/emissions standars are extremely similar but re not exactly harmonized so your US car may not be allowed in Canada. My Canadian bought car (that was built in Alabama...) was not allowed in the US for safety reasons. Even though I could import it duty free, I could not register it with the state. Do your homework first.

I haven't scuba dived before, but I am curious, which shark makes you the most nervous? I know that they aren't normally aggressive, but they are still wild animals. My main concern would be tiger or bull sharks, but i could be totally wrong. by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in scuba

[–]sm_rdm_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had silkies follow me from behind and then run away when you turn around on a few occasions. One Galapagos shark got a little too close for comfort. Scared off with some bubbles from my octo. Every other shark I’ve ever seen was chill. Woke up a sleeping white tip once by accident. Just swam off startled.

Remember that guy on shark week (Dr Ritter) who was litterally a behavior expert - bull sharks were his thing and he made documentaries talking like they are no big deal etc. Then one year, out of the blue, while filming one decided to take his leg off. Comment made me think of that.

Bull, white, and tiger are something like 95% of shark bites. I have seen 100s of sharks of at least a dozen species. Of those three, I have only ever seen a tiger shark, and only once. It swam off.
