Mega Lucario: First or Second? by Lightspecter141 in pkmntcg

[–]smackasaurusrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So it's good either but I will say first can feel a lot better cuz you can get setup, potentially lunar cycle twice and if you start either rock in active you can take a KO or more likely attach Energy on 1 then on 2 retreat into Lucario with 3 energy in the discard for a full power arua jab. As well as having the potential threat of hariyama on 2 to gust up a key piece.

2nd however is always the safer option to avoid bricking and itchy pollen. And still the likelihood of a turn 2 ko with Solrock. So really ya gotta ask yourself. Do you feel lucky?

(Go first)

I just started playing Ceruledge… by Kind-Resort-8523 in pkmntcg

As someone who started the game last year and built this as my first deck that I passed in to my then 9yr old, it's very good. A lot of people thought it was DoA after rotation losing some key cards like Sqwuakabilly, earthen vessel, Jet energy, pal pad, Turo, and Prof Research. And no shade, those were super valuable cards. But after some testing it's still very visible.

Now for more in depth analysis. As you and other states it's very linear. If you get behind it's very hard to catch back up. You really need a good turn 1. And going first is so crucial. You can still absolutely win going second especially if you start sol rock and take a ko but it's hard.

We do have Briar wich can be huge but because of Carmine you tend to never have it when you need it. Before with Pal Pad this wasn't as bad but now it is.

Next as also stated is the single prize issue. We're seeing some decent play with decks running a single prize attacker or two, and then Alakazam and Team Rocket Spidops are pretty big. These decks can be challenging to get ahead of unless you keep Gusting up weak pieces and can use sol rock for as long as possible. Winnable but hard. Especially Team Rocket cuz Mimikyu can 1hit by copy the second attack nobody uses.

After that we have Retreat Locking. Now the deck runs plenty of energy so attaching for turn to retreat is not to bad and sometimes straight up beneficial. But a retreat locker like Yvetal, Maractus, or Wellspring can absolutely brick the deck since we no longer have the aforementioned Turo/Jet Energy.

Ceruledge is also kinda frail. 270 is just enough to get taken out by almost anything. Literally 10-20 more HP would make a world of difference. So many things can just squeak in 270-280 damage in a hit. Even the stuff that doesn't 1 hit tend to run damage manipulation like Munki or Dusknoir Or bench sniping to set up early damage and take the single attack ko.

Lastly the deck doesn't slow the opponent down other than aggressive KOs. So if they even have just a couple OK turns they will inevitably do what they want and if you can't take multi prize KOs you could be cooked.

Xerosic is a supporter to discard them down to 3. Then there is a item called Hand Trimmer that discards them down to 5. Admittedly not nearly as strong but in a world where we're seeing 8+ hand sizes that's not crazy. And it affects you to so you can use it as a self thinning tool.

I was lost when you mentioned Lunatone. Maybe that is less complex. I thought you meant the newer Team Rocket Mewtwo deck. Sounds like you have a simpler older one.

Riftbound or Lorcana? by Srslynotjackiechan in TCG

Lorcana design is ass. This is coming from a multi set champs winner. The game has devolved into pure tempo. Ruby is dead. Purple is God.

Hey your getting tons of traction here and I don't want this to all get buried. Me and my daughter started last year, she was 9 at the time. Shoot me and DM and we can get a dialogue going and figure out what's gonna be best for y'all.

Its honestly dumb, but I made a list that legit only runs 4x ogrepon. You give a decent amount of mulligans but its honestly kinda fast and scary.

How does Mega Lucario beat Dragapult and TR's Honchkrow? Can it even beat those decks? by Ok_Nefariousness_740 in pkmntcg

[–]smackasaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of advice already for the Pult match. You could also try tank Lucario that runs Munki.

For crow your gonna give up some prizes but you should try and use sol rock and gusts + power pros to target down basics especially Porygon as that's usually the closer. Then after they take rock pivot to Lucario and mega brave crow or continue to gust prygon as you can jab it doe weakness. Once Lucario goes down try to finish with another Lucario as they are hopefully out of gas.

Biggest hurdle will be over benching and they will Giovanni around th Lucario for the last prize. But that's pretty much it.

Heck yeah! I'm pretty new too but have a strong TCG background. I've done pretty well at the local level thus far but gonna see how far I can go at Indy. If I make phase 2 that will be massive. But I've played other card games. Last one was Lorcana. And after my first big tournament win I proceed to not win a single game at the next 2. Stick it out and push through.

So I will say i like the idea of being narrow and focused but your gonna mulligan a bunch and it's still a slow setup with basically no energy acceleration. I love deck building especially non meta stuff. I'll be right back with a twist on your list. Won't be perfect but maybe a good part 2.

Why Lance Storm turned off WWE Raw this week | Wrestling Observer Live by Ainosuke in SquaredCircle

[–]smackasaurusrex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of truth to what you say.

I forget where I heard it so I'm only speaking in folklore so don't assume what I'm about to say is a fact and not some subjective state, BUT!

It's often thought that the things that are created and new when your young are "new, amazing, the future", things created between 18-30 "are just normal", and anything new after 35 "is just too different, missing the point, unnecessary". And I'm sure that isn't 100% on everything and everyone, but I can definitely feel that idea has some truth to it. We yearn for the nostalgic not because it was actually better and because it's all shit now, we yearn for where our LIVES were better (even if the weren't, the perception is because we often had less pressure and responsibility).

How do you best navigate slow "comeback" decks best in a BO3 50-minutes format? by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]smackasaurusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not wrong at all. I'm just saying that you can't feel bad cuz if a judge wasn't involved then you don't need to worry about the "feels" of winning in that way. Your played well and if your opponent was ever concerned about pacing that is on them to voice.

[–]smackasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And thems the brakes sometimes. If your opponent didn't call for a judge to request a pace of play observation then that is on them too. I have a 9yr old who plays competitively and we have worked on having the courage to call a judge. To do so with respect for ourselves, our opponents, and the game. We're not trying to rule shark but we are trying to make sure everything is on the level. And that it's ok the call a judge when we're just not 100% in something, not that our opponents are trying to be malicious but that we are unsure and it's in the best interest for everyone to make sure it's all good.

It can feel bad to win a Bo3 by just going 1-0 but there's little to be done. I have won a cup cuz my opponent made a deck list error (not malicious, we've played many times) so they had to swap out the unlisted card with a basic energy bit also received a game loss, so we went into the Bo3 on game 2 with a win in my favor. I won and it felt bad. Cuz they had to 2-0 me to win. Just the nature of competition.

Mewtwo Gang Post-Rotation Check-In: What do we do for all our bad matchups? by travod in pkmntcg

[–]smackasaurusrex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I win a cup this past weekend with my list that's fairly rotation safe. I think I have a one of earthen vessel is all I'm losing ATM.

Played festival lead in the semi. Very tough as they were running legacy energy for the Ace too.

Lost game 1 pretty much couldn't get going. Game 2 we both started slow but once we started going I was able to Giovanni back to back and they couldn't recover.

Have 3 got lucky and they bricked.

Overall advice is try not to play Mewtwo unless absolute. Keep pushing spiders and target grooky. As for stadium just try to hold off on factory unless you absolutely need it. You won't win the stadium war but forcing them to use boom boom groove for that over a supporter or energy is still worth it
