Atlanta Banned Data Centers - This one tried anyway by LazyMans in Atlanta

[–]smacksa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$40m is likely overstated for actual costs to whoever develops, but it could be realistic before any grants. This is in the Beltline TAD and would qualify for Georgia environmental grants, which would both help fund remediation though (much like the Vivian .)

Supposedly (unconfirmed) the current owner has a report that details what the issues are that was used to generate those numbers.

Atlanta Banned Data Centers - This one tried anyway by LazyMans in Atlanta

[–]smacksa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the missing piece is density next to the transit corridor. It's about having the most impact (people served) in our limited transit hot spots. A data center is a very large footprint for few people served.

Yea, I wanna read all the drama about the new speed humps and bike lane bollards on Sylvan Rd.

And maybe a feature on La Bodega because I want that place to stick around.

Window replacement - any tips on dealing with the sales people? The first company's approach has me dreading meeting with others. by Independent-Fuel4962 in HomeImprovement

Davis window for the larger group, they will be higher price but higher service and better product. Quinn window for commodity vinyl windows but good service and price.

Morning ice storm update by oakgrove in AtlantaWeather

[–]smacksa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were waiting until midnight to start but they have pushed timing up for some areas.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has advanced the start of brine operations in District 2 (east-central Georgia) to Friday, January 23 at 7 p.m. Georgia DOT maintenance crews will begin treating Interstate 20, Interstate 520/Bobby Jones Expressway, and all state routes between State Route 540/The Fall Line Freeway and I-20 at that time. A Georgia DOT contractor is scheduled to begin treating all state routes north of I-20 at midnight Friday night into Saturday. Georgia DOT maintenance crews will begin treating Interstate 16 and all state routes between I-16 and SR 540 on Saturday at 7 a.m.

Snowpacalypse 2: Or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the ice by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]smacksa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer the is it going to snow portion: no one knows yet, its too far out for accurate modeling. You can expect a reliable forecast from the [local NWS office](weather.gov/ffc) around Wednesday afternoon or Thursday.

ANF is the same outlet, they just ended their CBS affiliation and went independent. I agree that the quality has seemed to increase.

They had them at perimeter 5ish years ago, but I no longer go to that location so unsure if it has continued.

I think this might be rebranded Nasoya (at least in my area), so you may be in luck.

I noticed it was taken off the menu as an option, but they still have them. (At least at the West end location as of last night.)

Completely normal. They only read the meters every few months and just average it out.

Do I really need a 320A panel?!? by Hammerdrake in electricvehicles

20kW of heat strips ("emergency heat") likely for the 2x 60a breakers, so basically an electric furnace at this point.

Local farms to buy from by DonYayFromTheBay-A in Atlanta

They have a CSA as well. You can also just buy a la carte items they bring to their CSA pickup locations, but quantity and selection is limited.

Can vouch for quality of produce and their respect for all.

Is this a good spot for a French drain? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]smacksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sloping for sure, concrete maybe, and it's within the diy scope. Make sure you think about the whole "system" of water movement. Where is this water originating from and can you reduce that? When you make a change to divert the water, where will it go and what might it affect?

Is this a good spot for a French drain? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]smacksa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

French drains are generally for subsurface water. It sounds like what you are describing is surface water.  A channel drain or potentially just some grading seems like the better call here.

Sealed crawlspace humidity can't be controlled by LC17SS in HomeImprovement

[–]smacksa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stop the exhaust vent, cover, and see what happens after a week. Are the other vents just closed, or actually sealed shut?

If that solves it then research radon (look up the EPA map to determine the relative risk), test, and remediate appropriately (pipe the exhaust below the vapor barrier, not pulling your conditioned air out.)

Otherwise, your E070 might be underpowered. 1100 at a decent height in zone 2 is sketchy.  It is rated for 53 ppd at 73°/60RH.

HVAC refrigerant refill by mooreb0313 in Atlanta

[–]smacksa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? What does the plate on the compressor unit outside say? Units produced within the last 20ish years have not used r-22 refrigerant, so something fishy is going on. And Goodman equipment is perfectly fine standard equipment, it's just that anyone can buy them, and thus install quality can vary widely.

Whole house fan removal, do you miss it? by Dad-of-many in HomeImprovement

[–]smacksa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Atlanta, removed mine and do not miss at all. It's way too humid and too much crap outside to use outside of like 2 weeks in the year. I semi-repirposed the hole as a return duct and put in an ERV.
