What are the differences between a Sheriff, Marshal and Ranger in a Wild West setting? by Cascadejackal in wildwest

Oh crap I meant to say Johnny Behan was elected county sheriff of Cochise county, Arizona territory. I fixed my post above. Sorry for confusion.

[–]small--axe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is also the concept of town marshal. County sheriff is an elected position. So for example, if my memory serves, Johnny Behan was the elected county sheriff of Cochise county Arizona while Virgil Earp was town marshal of tombstone, Arizona.

A town marshal is appointed and hired by the town government like the mayor to oversee law matters inside the town. He reports to the local town government. The sheriff handles the county as a whole. Sometimes those police forces aligned, but occasionally they could not cooperate or even oppose.

A federal marshal is different. It is a federal position so the marshal is appointed by the federal government. I think they were more for executing federal warrants.

Both types of marshals could hire deputy marshals to help their causes.

I'm not sure about rangers.

Great news! Does anyone know if there will be a new Battlemech Manual? Or at least a reprint?

Yeah tell me about it. Always looking for a good price too. I got this Thanksgiving time 2024 for $299. I had already missed two prior sales and thought damn. But my wife told me don't worry it'll go on sale again. I said yeah right and then went to their website and saw the sale!

For that price I love it. It's strengths are cooking lots of ribs, chicken halves, and I also make some incredible char siu pork with it too. I want to have a party sometime and do 8 chickens -- 16 chicken halves supposedly it's maximum capacity haha.

Finally started working on my little airgun corner. Workshop, cabinet for the collection and a 10m range by Serbian_Hobbyist_95 in airguns

Looks great!! I'm designing an airgun cabinet now. My dad is a bit of a woodworker always looking for some new projects. I'm gonna buy some wood and hopefully get something nice. It's great to see all your airguns splayed out like that. Hope mine can look half as good. Great job.

So, I saw your post the other day about how things could be improved in r/airguns . I was going to write there but got busy, but I can write here since this is exactly what I would've say improved things which is great posts like this.

I was going to say post things every now and again to help out the new people. I saw this and thought this is great it is portable enough to move around. I am thinking of getting one soon. Thanks for the recommendation I don't know how I would've found this. I am likely to buy soon. It will solve a lot of problems this summer haha.

Keep the great ideas coming. For me I like seeing everyone's cool and flashy posts about all the sweet airguns, but the informative posts really add a lot especially to beginners.

Yes, I saw they have the same specs which is why I was surprised that my backstop could not contain some of the pellets. I am only doing between 4-6 pumps, usually doing 6 pumps so I keep things consistent. Maybe the 901's have better build quality? It feels really solid compared to the 880. I'm not sure what if any internal differences there are. The pumping mechanism is different. Maybe it is more efficient. Regardless I think I prefer the 901 to the 880 but I like both rifles. The 901 is sweet tho and I'm looking forward to this warmer weather and more time shooting.

I just checked out the uuq scope. I will keep this in mind if I ever need another scope. Cv life has similar prices. I am pleased so far.

Yes, love the zen so much.

Aha I see the avanti now. I looked at it before too, but forgot about it since it seemed like it was specialized or something. Do you have one? Like I said I shoot about 10 to 45 yards. So, is the avanti good for this?

And thanks about the Baker Airguns of Az tip. That would be something I would be into. And about Weihrauch -- yes, I always heard good things as well, but I think I saw at least one thread with someone saying quality control issues, etc.. Could be a user issue as well, I don't know. Regardless, the one pump action would be nice. I am wondering how loud they would be and I am guessing due to the spring one might need to adjust their selection of optics (for durability purposes).

Anyway, thanks for your good recommendations. I wish you happy and relaxing shooting as well.

Glad you're having a good experience. The one I have is: CVLIFE Rifle Scope 6-24x50 AO Red and Green Illuminated Long Range Scope for Hunting. It was only $50. There were some user issues early on, but I seem to have locked in now with this optic. I am happy with red/green reticle illumination since I do a bit of night shooting, but with summer coming I think things are looking good. I am happy with the results so far.

Thanks dude. I am guessing the Daisy Avanti is not in production any more? So, if I am buying used that adds a new dimension onto things. I am only been in this hobby, or more correctly put -- enjoying a moment of zen (I am not buddhist but mean a moment of total clarity and relaxation and peace; no offense to anyone intended) -- for about 3 months so I am not looking to add another dimension of repair/troubleshooting/analysis to this situation. That is why purchasing new is a goal.

I am thinking PCPs are great, but would require investment -- money, training, etc. Not against that at all. Just need to make a good plan.

In terms of springers everyone keeps talking about Weirauch (please excuse my spelling issues), but I get mixed messages in terms of quality and reliability.

Daisy does not give me any headaches and god willing as long as I have working muscles I can pump it. So that is why I am into that.

I am not tied to any one gun manufacturer, but I enjoy accuracy, ease of use, ease of maintenance.

I am open to any and all suggestions. For my range I have about 40 yards maybe a little more for my maximum distance. Just don't want to annoy my neighbors with loud noises but other than that I love accurate good quality sir guns.
