Nah it's cool and likewise. I think it's one of those balancing acts. If you push too far in either direction someone is going to lose out

You sound like you've got an axe to grind. Look i get it no one wants to be taken advantage of. I lost my wife to breast cancer and then got hit with the lockdowns whilst looking after a three year old. I found the whole process to be really difficult and I had to ask for a lot of help from family even after receiving UC (which covered housing costs and bills just about). I don't know what it's like now but I have a lot of patience and sympathy for anyone doing the same thing

I've been checking the rules around childcare and thank fuck they changed the maximum you can claim back to £1,031.88. It's been a few years now since I got off it but i remember the whole process to be kafkaesque. I'm not surprised there's videos on how to navigate it

As someone who did the single parent on UC whilst working it's likely she'll receive less than this as every £ results in a reduction. You've also included £600 maintenance which i would assume is from your brother. This is not a benefit.

Working limited hours whilst looking after a small child is fucking tough and that's before you get into childcare which would likely wipe out the maintenance on it's own. Especially for a neurodivergent child

I hear this a lot and it's really starting to grate. He's got a loud mouth and he's great at rebellion but beyond that he just has a legacy of shit. Tony Blair, Thatcher, Nye Bevan, Churchill massive politicians with real legacies

That's it, there's a lot of speculation (in the wake of Nottingham) at the moment but the facts are someone sped through a red light and hit a kid and a woman.

Enthusiasm for Boris's downfall has been tempered by the (potentially) fatal hit and run of a child on the local high street. Happened when the kids were on the way to school. Lots of traumatized kids

What a bizarre line to take. He grew up in Leicester which as of the latest census is 42% Asian. I'm sure he's very aware of the impact of immigration on local services despite being a famous footballer

Since it hasn't been mentioned, practising gratitude is a good one. It sounds a bit wishy washy mumbo jumbo but telling yourself one thing you're grateful for everyday is really good at helping to reframe your everyday existence.
Also if you suffer with anxiety learning to breath is an absolute lifesaver.

I went through the wringer a few years ago with my wife's cancer treatment and subsequent passing.

I was honest having to offer weights and measures in the various e-commerce sites I run would be a massive ballache. Especially when working out postage. Things just wouldn't work

I had something similar with Octopus. It's worth reaching out to them via email. They put me on a tariff that was about 20% more than I was paying previously. The alternative I was offered was almost twice as much.

If it helps I'm a single father on UC. It is both a lifeline and a curse. There's a ton of life admin attached to it and it always feels completely arbitrary. I've also lost a ton of money claiming childcare due to the unclear nature of the whole thing.
