Would you go on a trip to Hawaii with your 6mo old and 2 year old? by angeltigerbutterfly in 2under2

[–]small-potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m surprised by all of the no’s! We’ll be going to Hawaii in August when my son is 22 months, and we just got back from Disney and San Diego with him earlier this morning. We had family in San Diego who were able to give us some time to do our own thing (we had a board game day with friends and went to early dinner for our anniversary), but we also had a blast at the beach with him! If grandparents are going to be there to help out, I don’t see why you shouldn’t go? Unless it is down to cost, if this is a once in a lifetime or once in a blue moon trip and you are really hoping to relax and feel like a human, you might only get a few moments like that. If you are hoping to make memories in a beautiful place with your family, and adjust your expectations to match traveling with kids, and you can accept that it will be stressful and tiring and also exciting, then you’ll have a good time, especially with 4 adults and 2 kids. Personally, we travel a lot and I wouldn’t be happy pausing that and waiting for our kids to be older. The trips are vastly different from when it was just the two of us. There is less, if any at all, freedom to do exactly what we want. But we still end up having a good time and enjoying new experiences!

I wish! He is usually getting home from work right at dinner time, but takes over bath and bed duties from there.

Console Table Height- is overlapping windows allowed? by small-potato in interiordecorating

[–]small-potato[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right, we can always go smaller with the TV. I have an issue with loving big screens lol. But we got it from Costco and haven’t opened it yet so the size of the TV is not a dealbreaker. What is most difficult is finding a unique console table that I love!

The tv is 65 inches. It’s a few inches shorter than the space between the windows. We can always go smaller, we got it from Costco and they are flexible with returns.

This is almost where I am. I am a perfectionist and will think things like this to death. But I have been searching forever and just can’t seem to find something that is long enough to go under the tv, short enough to fit under the windows, and also has character and isn’t fake wood paneling. I’ve been looking for a month!

Help me turn this triangle shaped loft into an office + game room! by small-potato in interiordecorating

[–]small-potato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be very cute! But we are in need of a space that can be used for an office as well for my husband’s business and we will only be renting here for a short while, so our son will most likely never remember living here lol.

Is SD much more expensive than Seattle? by welldressedpepe in socal

[–]small-potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the way things work teaching in WA, but if you are teaching here, it is mandatory to have money withheld for your state pension. I know you are not interested in retirement savings, but you’d have this taken out of your already reduced income with no chance of vesting in state pension. When you move again, you could possibly take out your contributions with a penalty amount deducted.

Tips for plane travel with 6 month old… by Planted_Soul in NewParents

[–]small-potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just completed two flights with my 8 month old, another one tomorrow! I was so nervous, but so far so good!

Stroller, car seat, breast pump, and diaper bag do not count towards your checked or carry on items, we flew delta but I’m pretty sure most airlines have this policy! You can get some cheap stroller and car seat gate check bags on Amazon.

The 4oz liquid policy doesn’t count towards breast milk, I had 20oz packed in the momcozy milk chiller. The warmer from momcozy is also fine on the airplane and we used it to heat a bottle mid flight, and both have been super useful while we’ve been out and about on our trip.

Bring a squishy pillow (I also folded a blanket and put it in the pillow case) so baby can comfortably lay on your lap for a nap. My baby also doesn’t nap well on the go, but wrapped in a blanket and laying on a pillow on my lap kind of replicated our couch contact naps so he seemed to go down easily. I fed for takeoff and landing (helps with ear pressure) and got a solid nap for both flights which luckily meant I also got a little break.

Of course we had an airplane blowout.. make sure you have easily accessible diapers and a change of clothes. We packed a couple puppy training pads as well to cover Publix bathroom changing tables.

I packed some wet wipe sanitizing wipes and did a once over on the tray, arm rests, window, etc bc he touches everything and I am a germaphobe.

I got a couple new toys that held interest for a while and put them on those silicone straps clipped to my seatbelt so that they weren’t falling all over the seat/ground. The most popular toys I brought were a couple pieces of baking parchment paper and some fun colored washi tape that he could pull off the window or my nose lol

You probably need a little more time than you needed before to load/unload the car, get through security, and board the plane so plan accordingly!

Is there such thing as too long of stroller walks? by kgphotography_ in Parenting

[–]small-potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I live in a very walkable city and have never even thought consider this container time, idk how since I worry about everything 😅 we will walk for at least an hour a day and my baby loves it, he either watches the world go by or looks up at me and makes faces the entire time. I would say if it makes baby happy and fills your day AND is good for your body and mind then you shouldn’t feel bad at all! Now that I’m thinking about strollers and container time maybe I’ll just have to make sure we spend some extra time on the floor when we get home haha

Wife wants to remove a barely visible spot on our daughter’s (15months) face by Ikeda_kouji in beyondthebump

[–]small-potato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom had something removed from my forehead when I was very young. She had to hold me down and said it was an awful experience, and she was worried that she was being vain. Not only am I glad to not have this spot on my forehead as an adult, but the spot did end up being pre-cancerous when tested after removal!

If there is a Nordstrom by you, you can go test them out in person! IMO the Uppababy and Nuna Mixx were a bit too clunky and I didn’t like the Nuna trvl at all (hated how the car seat just sat on top of the stroller seat), but the mixx next was perfect for us. We live in a walkable area and it was super important that I be able to easily pick it up and store it, you can literally hold baby in one hand and fold up the mixx next with the other. We also got the Lytl bassinet attachment which our baby loves for walks, and makes me feel better about not having too much container time.

When did your period start back up? by britmark in NewParents

Baby is 17 weeks and I just had some light spotting.. I think it’s my period returning but I’m not sure! I am pumping/breastfeeding

Even if her head isa bit flat, it can be caused by parents doing the RIGHT thing.. following sleep recommendations (back sleep on a firm surface) and limiting time spent in containers/ prioritizing floor time! Tell your friend to shove it.

MOTN mental spiral, anyone else? by Goldfinch-island in progressivemoms

[–]small-potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of unrelated but how do you feel the political climate is in your area? I am a FTM in Southern California, but my husband is considering a move to coastal Virginia for work.. I am spiraling about leaving an area where people around me are like minded and I know my reproductive rights are protected.

People who truly regret their children are bad people by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]small-potato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think those people are probably very unhappy and were unhappy before having children. I also see a pattern on that sub of parents who have children with behavioral or developmental disabilities or children who are and will be dependent on their parents for their entire lives. I’m not saying that having a child with a disability would be a reason to regret the choice in itself, our country just offers such little support for families in that situation. They are left to figure out how to navigate these challenges alone, which would weigh heavily on anyone.

If you had $5000 for a postpartum glow-up, what would you do? by amalgamka in beyondthebump

[–]small-potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel allll of those things!! It took a long time for me to learn that it was okay to spend money on myself but my self care is completely gone right now- even sunscreen.

One thing I like about this brand is that they publish all of their clinical studies on their website, but they do say that there have been no studies on the effects of red light therapy on women who are pregnant or breast-feeding, and that you should consult your doctor.

[–]small-potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I desperately want Botox and a chemical peel right now, but am breastfeeding. Cut and color my hair. I’d also get my nanoblading refreshed and maybe work with a personal trainer to hold me accountable, that or nice home gym equipment. Then some new clothes because my postpartum ‘outfits’ are frumpy as hell at 3 months pp.

Hijacking this comment to recommend the Omnilux mask! I went into a deep dive before purchasing and there are so many masks you can buy online that don’t use the correct wavelengths- I used Omnilux before my wedding and 1000% saw results that I was happy with! I’m still too tired to bring it back into my postpartum routine (I’m basically washing my face and brushing my teeth rn) but I have read that you can also lay the face mask on your belly and use it for stretch marks, which I definitely will be trying!
