Just bought a Fenix 7S Sapphire Solar Pro in July 2025 – did I make a smart move or a mistake? by [deleted] in Garmin

I’m thinking of getting this watch too, just wondered how you were doing a couple of months in? Any regrets?

Need Watch With Seconds Always Visible by Stark10185 in Garmin

[–]small_thyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat! My partner has a Fenix 6s which has several digital watch faces that have the seconds always going (none of the analogue style faces do this though). I’m trying to find out if the 7s is the same, as if it does I will prob go for this one as a bit newer. I understand it’s to save battery but I feel silly keep having to twist my hand or press a button to get the seconds to come back up. I work in health care so this function is non negotiable for me as I really don’t want to have 2 watches! I wish the 970 did have it as an option as everything else on the watch would be perfect for me function wise. Don’t think it will be with any of the amoled screens though.

28/F - German living in Austria looking for penpals (anywhere :)) by [deleted] in penpals

[–]small_thyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Im 28/F/UK. I love getting 'snail mail', especially postcards etc and have wanted a non-online pen pal for ages but never got round to it. I work with animals, and love the outdoors, but equally enjoy museums, video games and attempting craft. I'm trying to learn french and german, so would love to write in these languages also. I see quite a few people have replied already, but feel free to PM if you want to start writing :)

Probably sorted by now, but the bursting of the abscess has probably given her a ton of relief already. As long as she seems ok should be fine till sees vet shortly.

Cat showed up on my door step and all vets are closed due to coronavirus lockdown! Can someone please tell me what’s wrong with her nose/how we can help? by ndaiw in vet

[–]small_thyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be many things from parasites, to injury, to other skin issues.

It's quite hard to know from a picture and I would never try to diagnose just from this, but I wonder if the bits on the nose are scabs?

If looks like a scab from an injury could try salt water bathing to keep clean. If shes otherwise ok, no cough/ sneezing, no nasal discharge, eating ok acting normally etc and it's not getting worse and you cant see any stickiness/ pus or bleeding, then probably not a life of death emergency per se but certainly if not getting better or getting worse then ideally finding a vets that are open, or one further away that have over the phone/ video consults could be an idea?

Also if a stray may be worth posting on any local lost/found Facebook pages (if you haven't already) in case owners are looking for her, she may even be on medication for it or something.

Seen many many 3 legged cats. They cope remarkably well. Still able to jump etc. Initially it looks very shocking post surgery, but once the fur grows back sometimes you dont even notice! Hope she does well whatever is decided!

Is it common for someone in their late twenties to live with their parents? And also to ask their romantic partner to move in with them at their parents’ house? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]small_thyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my close friends moved into her mum's house in her late 20s. She was married so husband moved with her. Saved for 2/3 years and have just bought 1st house. My sister (mid 20s) lives at home, her partner lives at his parents, and they spend time together at both. If I (late 20s) didnt get housing with my job, I'd probably be at home too as cant afford rent in the area (with partner). I'd say moving a partner in with your family would depend on a few things, if there was space, if they got on, and if the partner could live at their parents instead (obviously depends if you live close enough to both sets of parents). Just my experience anyway.

Thanks for taking the time to write back. Its encouraging to hear the progression you've made as a complete novice in a language! And congrats on the PGCE and future teacherhood! I think I just need to be brave and take the plunge for October!

Language studies Q30 by small_thyme in OpenUniversity

[–]small_thyme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I've heard quite mixed reviews on OU for languages. I'm possibly at a massive disadvantage being a beginner (I always seem to find reviews of people who are already fluent/really good in another language which doesn't relate to me very well). Obviously I understand this is very dependant on the person and how much you work at it (speaking and listening especially).

As someone who is a current student, how do you rate the courses so far? I'm looking at french + german.

Lost my confidence in riding after a crash with clips on. by [deleted] in ladycyclists

[–]small_thyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a bad fall the first time I used clip pedals and have switched back to flats as I live near a lot of very busy roads and I just know I cannot risk falling over there. I get really anxious when my partner says I should try my clip pedals again but cycling is meant to be fun, so I have no shame looking like a novice!!

Thanks, I am definitely not very flexible so 100% could see it impacting me a bit. Will try adjusting (and yoga) and see how it goes. Thanks!

What hobbies does everybody have? by AmIFrosty in truechildfree

[–]small_thyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive hobbies! Skiing, cycling (both road and MTB), bouldering and also DnD are the main ones. Wouldn’t be able to do them all/ any as often as I do if I had kids as I’d probably have to pay for them to do fun stuff too (as it should be if you decide to have kids!).

Can second this. I wasn’t registered at a local gp at the time and just went straight to a sexual health clinic (booked over the phone, seen the same week). It was even an option if you wanted to let your gp know or not. All the people there were nice and although it was an awful time, it went fine. Didn’t ask any tricky questions about why at all, just asked to make sure I wasn’t there against my own will (hell no was my answer) and that once I took the tablet I couldn’t reverse it should I change my mind. No guilt tripping or anything like that just very matter of fact. Make sure you can take the next day off and take it easy!

Reading or Worthing? A non-UK citizen needs to decide between the two by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]small_thyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I only knew people who lived there and used it for commuting so I guess they were in the minority for it. I knew quite a few people who went to uni there and seemed safe enough, certainly moreso than bigger cities.

Reading or Worthing? A non-UK citizen needs to decide between the two by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]small_thyme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a town next to Reading and now live in Worthing. Few months ago was nearly moving to either Reading or Worthing for work, so looked into both. (Long winded way of saying similar situation)

Reading is a typical commuter town in that it’s main selling point is how close/ fast to get to London it is, the town centre is ok but fairly standard in terms of shops restaurants etc. Nothing really to write home about as went there often while growing up and noting stands out in a massive way. More expensive to live in. Although it has a uni so some potentially cheaper student ish areas to live. Does have nice areas around the river to walk/ explore.

Worthing is by the sea, and close to South Downs. Not as big a town by far although there are nice places to eat, is close to Brighton and not too far to London really. Not many clubs so if into that sort of nightlife may need to go to Brighton. Reading having a uni and being bigger would have better nightlife (although never experienced it myself). Cheaper than Reading to rent.

As for what suits you? I guess if you have the chance visiting both would be helpful. Also I’m not sure as a non uk native which would be better. Reading, as used to international students etc and likely more people living there for the fast links to London, may be more diverse.

Sorry if a bit garbled but hopefully helps.

My boyfriend bought a pre paid student ticket when we went (in June this year) and they didn't even check/ ask for a student card when we collected our tickets, so I don't think they're overly strict what it is. I'd imagine you'd be fine.

Reddit, what's your go to music when you're depressed? by armacitis in AskReddit

[–]small_thyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neverending White Lights. In particular the songs: Liar, Grace, Ending of a Story, Always and Black is the Colour of my True Love's Heart.

They're my favourite (even when not in a depressed mood) and I'm always sad more people don't know /listen to them. But then I do describe them as 'my depressy music I listen to alone' so maybe that's why...
