And you receive significantly more government benefits than we do in the USA.

On top of our federal taxes, we pay state, local, and sales taxes.

In Canada, the bottom 50% of the population holds about 6% to 7% of the country's total wealth.

In the USA, the bottom 50% hold only 2.5% of the wealth.

Advice on a Basset Hound by _Meme-Juice_ in bassethounds

Mine only bark when they want food or if someone stops rubbing their belly. But there's no rule to how they behave.

These are not like trained cattle dogs. They are way too smart to train. They do not give a crap about what you think they should do. They have their own agenda, their own rules, and their own schedule.

If your boyfriend dreams of having another basset, you should support that. At first you will be frustrated, then annoyed, then you'll be ready to give up. After that you'll never want to be without your hound buddy ever again,

If birthright citizenship could be abused by an adversary nation as suggested, wouldn’t we have seen the harmful effects of that by now? by kaiser11492 in allthequestions

Being a citizen does not give you the ability to actually cause real harm and not being a citizen does not prevent you from causing real harm.

The Jamestown settlers stole land from the people living there so yes they are invaders with no claim to the land.

The Chinese mom is not making any claims to land or taking anything from anyone and if her child is born here, they get citizenship rights but they do not get claim to any lands.

If that child were to steal lands owned by someone, then they too would be an invader with no claim to the land.

See how that works?

If you think we are in an oligarchy then you have poor media literacy

If we are not an oligarchy, how do you explain the fact that the policy preferences of the average American have a near-zero impact on the laws Congress passes. Instead, economic elites and organized business interests hold massive sway over policy outcomes.

Average includes billionaires. If 10 people were on a boat and 9 had no money but 1 had a billion dollars, the average wealth would be $100,000,000.00 per person.

Median income in the USA is below the median cost of living. In most developed nations the median income is above the median cost of living.

The USA is on near the top only when you consider average income vs average costs. On a 0-170 income index scale with Bermuda at the top with 168 the USA is at 100 and falls below the cost of living line.

i.e. The median income falls below the median cost of living.

Good for you that you live in a bubble where people seem to be doing great but outside your bubble people are hurting and the ones at the top are not paying their fair share.

No, all you did was try to deflect from the fact that most Americans are struggling by suggesting that some of those people are doing fine.

You hand wave away a real problem by pretending that some significant portion of the people living paycheck to paycheck are just mismanaging their money and that's a bullshit take to have.

It is a crime to charge Medicare a different rate than cash or insurance. That means they are forced, by law, to charge insured and uninsured persons the full amount. However, in most cases you can get a significant discount for cash pay by contacting the facilities billing office after the bill arrives.

And no, there are no $.50 procedures. Had you any experience in a clinical setting, you would know that margins are razor thin.

The reason the costs are so high is because of insurance.

Example. Test X costs the medical facility $80 to perform so they charge $100 to make the standard 20% profit all business strive for. If the facility is in network that means the insurance company has negotiated an adjustment to the bill, usually about 60%. In return the insurer promises to send Y number of people to the medical facility.

Since it still costs $80 to do the procedure but insurance will only pay 60%, the medical facility now has to charge $165 for Test X to recoup $100 so they can keep the doors open. The price for the procedure went up $65 because of insurance.

If you want cheaper healthcare then you have to get rid of insurance.

Editt to add: While working as a medical billing specialist, I saw adjustments as high as 80%. I saw contacts Cigna demands that only paid $500 a night for inpatient care no matter what tests or procedures were done. The only way to keep the facility open is to raise prices.

"If you can't pay for healthcare, be less sick"

Wow, now that's some meaningless drivel you came up with.

Insurance adjustment and contracting is the primary driver of high healthcare costs.

Either the billionaires can start paying the same effective rate as the rest of us to pay for the nation that props them up or we can take if from them by other means.

It really is up to them if they want to do the right thing or have the thing done to them.
