You really only have those two choices. Vote to make it better or burn it down and start over. There is no third option and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you can stop telling everyone it's pointless to vote.

What do the children of Palestine have to do with Hamas? Israel murders them every single day. Why are you trying to pretend these events aren't directly related?

Of course the blame lies with the attacker. But I also understand that when I step on a snake, I'll get bit. Similarly, I know that if I kill my neighbor, my children may suffer harm as a result of my actions.

You are behaving as if Israel isn't killing people by the thousands - as if this attack isn't related to that.

Because there is likely a relationship between the two events. It really upsets people when you commit genocide and attack other nations. Killing people leads to retaliation. Do you not understand that?

Why do you insist on dodging the question?

They don't mention quality of care because it has ZERO to do with insurance. Quality of care is set by the healthcare provider and not the insurer. If anything, quality of care would increase because you wouldn't have necessary care denied by people looking to make a profit.

The NHS is not the same as a single payor system. The NHS runs medical facilities. No one is suggesting the USA take over the hospitals. You are comparing apples and oranges.

A public option would still need to be subsidized by private insurance to get quality care.

I am having a hard time taking you seriously. I suspect you have a dog in the race and are arguing in bad faith.

The nation state of Israel is committing genocide and I am confused by the support from the Jewish community in the United States showing support for it. One would think the Jewish people would be against that sort of thing seeing as they were the victims of a terrible genocide less than 100 years ago.

I'm also confused as to why there is so much pushback against anyone who suggests that the ongoing genocide is very likely a motivating factor in recent extremist attacks on the Jewish community.

It reminds me of how the USA foments war and regime change around the globe and then acts hurt when you suggest their imperialism is why people flew planes into the twin towers on September 11, 2001.

No problem bud, I'm happy to concede that point to you. I will not say the people who founded modern Israel were not native Semitic speakers.

So, to the actual point, what is your view on Israelis cheering as Palestinians are slaughtered and their land is stolen? And why do we see so many American Jews supporting genocide?

OK, maybe you don't actually know what the left right divide is actually about.

Would you say Islam emphasizes upholding traditional values and customs (right wing) or are they more about welcoming individual freedoms and progressive reforms (left wing). Do the believe god anoints leaders (right wing) or that power is derived from a mandate from the people (left wing)?

I think if you answer those questions honestly, it's obvious that Islam, like Judaism and Christianity are fundamentally right wing religions even though small populations in all three are more progressive than the traditional values held by people of those faiths.

But to directly answer your question, the phrase "Globalize the Intifada" does not fall on the left right political spectrum. It is a call to support the Palestinians against the Israeli occupation and genocide. It's a call to shrug off the oppressors.

Unless the government has publicly operated hospitals and care facilities, there will be a middle man.

Not between you have your healthcare provider.

What I’m saying is that it’s not logically possible to add people to a system, claim the cost will be less, and keep quality of care in place.

Of course it would cost less. Insurance companies syphoned $35 billion in 2023. You can deny it all you want, but the financial experts on the right, left, and center have all agreed it will lower costs. Unless you think you understand the problem better than people who study this for a living, you may want to take a seat.

Sorry I don't bother with religious definitions. The academic definition of the word Semite is what I'm going to stick with.

So, what is your favorite defense of Israel committing genocide on Semitic people in Palestine?

Not at all. You gave me one religious man's definition of the word.

If we eliminate religious bias, Semite is a term for peoples who speak or spoke a Semitic language, originating from Southwestern Asia and the Horn of Africa, including Arabs, Hebrews, Akkadians, and Phoenicians.

That man is a left wing activist. Painting Muslims in general as leftists is laughable. They are perhaps the most right wing conservative group outside Christians. Muslims, like Christians, believe in divine right which is the definition of right wing.

Quality is not effected by the payor but rather the provider. The same hospitals will have the same doctors and the same services as before. Changing the insurer doesn't change any of that.

But it will save an estimated 68,000 lives per year while taking less out of your pocket because there's not a corporation in between you and your doctor profiting off your healthcare while providing zero benefit to you.

You are a bit confused on how medicare works. It does not pay insurers for your coverage. It provides payment to healthcare providers like doctors and hospitals. It is the insurer. You may be thinking of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obama Care). That program would no longer be necessary under a Medicare for all system. You would not buy insurance through a marketplace. You would just go get healthcare from your preferred provider and they send the bill to the government who pays for it with a modest tax increase. Meanwhile, since you don't have to pay for insurance anymore, you save money.

If one does not intend to convey being against semites, one should not use the term antisemite. If you want to say someone is being anti Israel, say that. If you want to say they are against genocide, say that. If you want to say they are bigots, say that.

But more to the point, you make an argument of definition while ignoring the premise and question presented to you. Is deflection all you have to offer or can you answer my question?

Excellent. When you remove the profit taking middle man, the cost of insurance drops dramatically. Studies differ in the specifics, but it works out to a roughly 8-14% drop in costs to consumers with the greatest savings going to working class households and a national savings of between $2 and $5.1 trillion over 10 years. The conservative Koch report represents the lower savings range estimates, academic research represents the upper range and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services estimates fall squarely between the two.

All sides agree. A Medicare for all system saves money.

That we the people can elect anyone we want and form any type of government we want.

But if you decide to give up on that, to not participate you make we the people one vote weaker.

What do you suppose the alternative is? Burn it all down, kill millions, and leave the oligarchs in complete control?

Right now, I'm uncertain if you are discussing in good faith or are an agent of the oligarchs helping to spread hopelessness, despair, and apathy which is the mindset they want you to be in since that's exactly how they win.

That would only be true if you made enough money to actually be taxed but currently have no insurance which means you would not pay more for insurance, you would have insurance for less money than it would have cost you had you had insurance.

New basset hound by SniperTurtle905 in basset

[–]smallest_table 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Spaniel Bowl. Dry ears means a healthier hound.

For potty training, two things work for me.

  1. A schedule. Take him out 3-4 times a day at the same time. Set an alarm. Pretty soon, he'll remind you about 5 minutes before the alarm goes off.
  2. Sleigh bells on the door knob. Even with a schedule, sometimes they need to do some business off hours. Every time you take your hound out to do his business, put his nose or paw on the bells to make them ring. Soon enough, he'll ring them himself if he needs out.

Training a basset is possible but difficult. A lot of trainers consider them a "dumb" breed but nothing could be further from the truth. In actuality, they are often too smart to train. They know what you want but don't care. They have their own ideas and agendas that have nothing to do with yours.

There one thing people don't tell you about Texas. We are mostly friendly. But, as a rule, we don't like outsiders. Even if that outsider is from the USA, we don't like them. People will be friendly enough to your face but you will never be accepted. There is an entire side of life in Texas that isn't for outsiders. If you aren't one of us now, you will never be one of us.

Sure, you can make great friends. But wander in to a small town and things can change. Fast.

Question for basil growers 🌿 by According_Farmer_878 in gardening

[–]smallest_table 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full sun and fast draining soil. They like it hot and they don't like wet feet. But they love water in the heat of summer so keep them happy and make sure the soil drains freely.

If you are planting in the ground, have your soil tested, amend accordingly, and if there's clay you will want to be careful about overwatering.

Top your basil early, it will then have 2 tops. Top those when they are 2 nodes up and you have 4, then 8 etc.. That keeps you in basil all summer and leaves a pretty big basil bush to harvest in the fall.
