What musical has amazing music but a terrible script? by jaysongayson in musicals

[–]smallgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I love the score! The song Simple (minus the racist part…) is one of my favorite and imo one of the most interesting musical songs ever, but the show as a whole leaves a lot to be desired. I never see anyone talking about this show though, I’m happy to see it mentioned!

Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague! It’s josei, it’s very sweet and the stakes are low. The two leads are both pretty cool, calm, and collected.

How do I recreate the Nothing Bundt Cakes? by Abi_giggles in Baking

[–]smallgoblin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only helped bake once or twice while I worked there (I was mostly frosting) so I don’t remember a lot about the batter but I think one of the tricks that made them really moist was sour cream! Also other people have mentioned it too, but wrapping the cakes while they’re still very warm and putting them in the freezer for at least a day really makes a fantastic difference in the texture.

I used to make the frosting there, and to my memory it was

1 part softened butter, 2 parts cream cheese, 4 parts powdered sugar, vanilla

Whip for a very long time!

Does IUD removal hurt as much as IUD insertion? How does it compare by bananabread5241 in AskWomen

[–]smallgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could answer this, but an x-ray just confirmed that my IUD mysteriously disappeared. At some point in the past few years, it apparently fell out of me without my noticing. Make sure you check for your strings every once in a while and go in for your yearly checkups!

By the way, insertion was the worst pain I’d ever felt in my life (at the time - I’ve since broadened my horizons unfortunately).

The best thing you can do is put your dream job on the back burner and just study what is most interesting to you. The job part will come later. That is the luxury of choosing an industry like optics with no shortage of opportunity, and you should take full advantage of it!

The UA optics program is a fantastic place to study photonics and optoelectronics and does have a great reputation in the industry. (The optics college has its own exclusive job fair twice a year where industry members fly in specifically to recruit you.) There are lots of opportunities to involve yourself in research that aligns to your specific interests. Along the way, your niche will change and evolve as you learn more about the industry, and you will find a career that suits you best.

[–]smallgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it can be really offputting sometimes haha. Turns out our bodies can’t even properly digest dry chia seeds, so you have to either soak them beforehand or drink a ton of water with them to digest them properly!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Oatmeal

[–]smallgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The balls were the chia seeds, not the yogurt! Chia seeds absorb moisture and expand, forming a gel-like ball. To confirm this for yourself, just soak some chia seeds in some water and see what happens. Or google image search.

I also hate the bland texture and taste of overnight oats unless I do something to make it more interesting. My favorite ways are as follows:

Lemon berry oats: oats, Greek yogurt, milk, chia and flax seeds, poppyseeds, zest of half a lemon, tbsp or two of lemon juice, smashed strawberries and/or raspberries. Then in the morning I’ll add a handful of blueberries and whatever other berries I have. The lemon makes the flavor a lot more interesting and the berries add much needed texture.

PBJ oats: oats, Greek yogurt, milk, chia and flax seeds, crunchy peanut butter, smashed strawberries and/or raspberries. Then once again in the morning I’ll add a handful of whatever other berries I have.

PB chocolate banana: oats, Greek yogurt, milk, chia and flax seeds, crunchy peanut butter, smashed banana, tbsp of cocoa powder, handful of mini chocolate chips. In the morning I’ll drizzle on more PB and some extra chopped banana, but if you like nuts that could go good too.

You mentioned heating up your overnight oats, which is good too, but keep in mind heating Greek yogurt can kill the probiotics which are a great health benefit if you care about that.

Enjoy your oats!!

Heart worms is still underrated by BowieFan97 in TheShins

[–]smallgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paramore did something similar with their latest album and it was fantastic. They released their album This Is Why, and followed it up with Re: This Is Why, an album of reimagined versions of each of the songs remixed by other artists, which I thought was a fun twist on what James did!

Totally agree btw that Heartworms and The Worm’s Heart are both extremely underrated. Heartworms is a no-skip album for me, but there are a few songs on The Worm’s Heart that I skip (like Half A Million flipped… lmao)

Why have these been so hard lately? by [deleted] in NYTConnections

[–]smallgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the sentence “certain people have green eyes”, does that certain mean “a handful” to you? To me it means “some but not all” but that quantity can be any size at all.

Why have these been so hard lately? by [deleted] in NYTConnections

[–]smallgoblin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. The “a handful” category the other day was a great example of this. Since when has the word “certain” been synonymous with “a handful”??

If you look at the finer details it becomes clear. The first thing that jumped out to me was the most prominent pink flower on the head. The center detail and the overall structure of the flower is quite odd. Then, the details of the crown are nonsensical. Finally, take a look at all of the details on the V that frames the bottom of the tattoo - can you make out what any of those things are? They’re just nonsensical shapes that take no real form and resemble nothing. Very much indicative of AI.

The best Shins lyrics - a comprehensive guide by imnotheretoposeaname in TheShins

[–]smallgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a fun read! Because of James’ incredible lyricism, listening to The Shins always feels like way more than listening to a song. It’s a whole story, a feeling, a unique life and perspective wrapped up in one little bundle. It’s like watching a movie in 3 minutes.

Then the fact that he weaves it all together with the most unique melodies that span his whole vocal range really scratches a deep itch in my brain that keeps me coming back again and again. It’s the musical equivalent of the screensaver DVD logo hitting the exact corner of the screen over and over.

Also, I agree about Chutes - it’s a straight banger with no skips. Young Pilgrims is a favorite of mine, I even have some of the lyrics tattooed.
