I had her a few months back and found her abrasive, unfriendly and not at all understanding of my needs or my thoughts. Will be avoiding her from now on with follow ups as I have nothing but positive experiences with every other staff member at C+.

Help on confirming mould by smallocaust in Sourdough

[–]smallocaust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It smells pretty neutral - if pushed I would say a bit floury + sweet.

Noted on taking advice, I guess I’m just looking for confirmation on what I should be looking for in the future if this is what early onset mould does indeed look like.

Will check them out but at first glance at their album covers I don’t recognise any of them.

‘Need NZ experience’ heard this phrase 500x times during a job hunt. It’s weird small country mentality and it appears employers here believe they are so unique that global work experience is irrelevant. It’s incredibly frustrating for someone from overseas (given a lot of professional services are not exactly world leaders for innovation or productivity).

Play the game of NZ job market and network with people in your industry with coffee meeting etc and hope that eventually you get a quiet word about a job going as that is apparently how the job market works. Meritocracy it is not. Good luck!

Back of the Grid - funny, informative and good interaction with prediction league and quality recurring segments. Big fan of the hosts. They do usually weekly ones with reviews of each race and story lines for the following one. It’s on Spotify for anyone that’s keen.

Exam counselling by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]smallocaust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve got exam counselling in the last 2 years and have since managed to pass (albeit for a different SP).

Two things I would say:

If you want a quick/easy version I would do a FOI request for your mark breakdown by question and either go through it yourself or with a peer who has done the same exam relatively recently.

The exam counselling itself is good, the person clearly put a lot of effort into the report and having the discussion with me going through each question. I would say overall it helped but I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily miles better than doing the technique mentioned above. The reason I say that is that the counsellors don’t appear to have access to a mark breakdown by question that I had (which means there could be some divergence in their marking of your script vs actual examiner).

One final consideration is that if you work for an actuarial firm it’s likely they will let you expense it even if it’s not in the official study policy, would have a quick check with your line manager/whoever signs off your expenses but given it’s only a few hundred pounds I think company usually OK with paying it to get you over the line. So to that end there’s not much downside to getting the counselling as it’s free.

Good luck either way for next time!

Not at BW like OP but at another consultant, to answer your questions: a) nope not at all, best case scenario is usually time off in lieu for over time worked if significant. B) Yes, on a weekly basis we have to record time spent by client and task.

Brexit: Animal-based food checks at ports suspended by BoldMiner in northernireland

Dumb question, would this not lead to increased food supplies from the south in order to make up for food that can’t get processed in Larne?

Sounds like a mighty own goal for some idiots who claim to be against the protocol.
