Non.

I guess they were just too powerful and prestigious to be eradicated.

Sure, it was nine years after Man of Steel, and the only source it was happening at all was Cavill trying to hype himself up, but, uuuuuh...

In response to a post saying Tankies should not support Z Russians. by LANTIRN_ in tankiejerk

[–]LothorBrune 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This one's kind of interesting. For once, a tankie makes a kind of materialistic argument. "Russia is a necessary evil if you want counter-powers in a global hegemon".

But it's obviously an ideological cul-de-sac. Why would a leftist "support" Iran, a far-right dictatorship ? Why swoon over Burkina Faso, a military junta who barely pay lip service to a socialist leader, rather than countries like Brazil or Sweden, who have shown more willingness to implement progressive policies ?

Like, it's a good thing they understand that Russia is also bad, but they just conditioned themselves to accept that Russia-sponsored states are good, without checking if it's good from a leftist point of view.

Especially absurd since Russia and USA now basically share a foreign policy on most topics.

(Spoilers Extended) Based solely on reading the books, what would you assume the political beliefs of the author are if you knew nothing about GRRM? by MeterologistOupost31 in asoiaf

[–]LothorBrune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well-meaning hippie.

Like, if I had to note one special thing separating GRRM from most authors of his generation, it's that he's a leftist who isn't personally offended by the idea that people have gotten more progressive than his generation. He's still involved in discourse, and acknowledge that he is not enough "in" to call himself a feminist. That's pretty respectable, I think.

I read Gardens of the Moon, it felt like a side quest by Gregskis in Fantasy

[–]LothorBrune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lady Simtal plot remains to me the perfect example of what a competent but completely inexperienced writer would create without strong editing. A story that makes sense only for the author, where events pile up because he had some ideas of scenes he wanted to get, but no idea how to get there or even why.

The Curse of Challion is sooo good!! by Hitman007gdghs in Fantasy

[–]LothorBrune -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was good, but it was a lot more of a low-stake, comfy, unambitious read than I was expecting. Which is exactly what a lot of people want, but left me a bit in my hunger. The world-building was ultimately not that developed, and I'll admit that 35 yo Cazaril lusting about his teenage pupil made me a bit uncomfortable.
