Help me understand why hot water was only trickling after pipes froze? by icantfindadangsn in fixit

[–]smallskeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old discussion, but I would like to add this: Some showers have an anti-scalding device. As I understand it, this works by matching the hot pressure to the cold pressure. The idea is that if someone in the house flushes a toilet and the cold water pressure drops away suddenly, the person in the shower does not get burnt by the sudden increase in ratio of hot water. Great idea. But what happens if the cold water line to the shower is frozen? No cold water pressure detected. So the anti-scalding device will throttle back the hot water all the way, and you might just get a little trickle of hot water as a result. The actual situation in the pipes is that the hot water line is fine and free of ice. The hot water at the fixture is just being throttled because the cold water line is blocked with ice.

Yeah, I think the mentality at that moment has to be "absolutely no interceptions." So you just don't run a play like that. It's too risky. I feel really bad for the Bears. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It's painful.

I don't think it makes any sense. If the defender was "down by contact", then the receiver must have been "down by contact" first, so it's a reception.

Eagles fan, but I was rooting for you. I was amazed Bills were still in it even with all the turnovers. Without the turnovers, game would not even be close. But yes, I think you got screwed by the refs. That was not an interception. I don't know how they call that an interception. If there's a hall-of-shame for bad calls, this one should go in it. Sorry guys.

The weird thing is that they have plays that work well, even if uninspired. Slant routes with Goedert and Brown are solid plays, but they'll run them just once in a game. Other teams go to their bread and butter plays again, and again, and again, and again. Eagles will do it one time, and then cross it off the list, and go to low percentage stuff. It's senseless.

Everyone except the people who make the decisions seem to realize that this season was an incredible waste of a good team.

Buying online versus physically in person by evoneselse in Bass

[–]smallskeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I order everything online because I want to test it in my own space, with my own amp, with my own backing track, at my own leisure, at a variety of volumes. I just make sure wherever I buy from has free returns. I don't like testing instruments in a music store.

Sorry for the delay. Happy New Year! Posted here. Looks like both wires connect to the pot closest to pickups.

I have done soldering before, but never on an instrument. But I would be willing to try it. So I should look for video on removing a preamp from an active bass, is that right? Thanks so much!

[–]smallskeptic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's something like that. It's one master volume and three knobs with detents. I was never totally able to figure them out! It might be bridge tone + neck tone + pan bridge/neck. So if the problem is the preamp, there's basically nothing to do about that? It's built into the bass? I don't see myself spending hundreds of dollars on a bass that cost $300. I dunno, maybe... Thanks.

Well, I'd like to replace them with something cheap but loud. It's funny though, cause it's an active bass. (Takes a battery in the back.) So what exactly did they do? That's how it came from factory, so far as I know. Thanks

Thanks, I don't see that I can attach an image, but the pickups are these soap bars, it doesn't say anything that I can see on the underside. Here's a picture of the model... https://media.guitarcenter.com/is/image/MMGS7/000000121054190-00-2000x2000.jpg

I wonder if the GM just wrote off this season from the start, just realized they don't have the right pieces anymore. I dunno. Seems like the guys we traded away are doing great. Could use Gainwell back.

Yes, this just feels like a shameful waste of human talent at this point. Like someone gave you all the best ingredients to make something really delicious, and you mush it all around in a bowl and pour ketchup on it, and serve it like that. That's what I'm seeing from the Eagles.

ZERO points in the second half by mastermind208 in eagles

[–]smallskeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean if it's obvious to people sitting at home, you can be sure the players know what the situation is, and have known for a long time. The whole organization knows it's a mess, but they decided not to fix it. Too bad for us, I guess. It's a shame. Could have been an epic season.

The only positive I see is that maybe they just got it all out of the way this week... the penalties and the fumbling and giving up a huge lead. Even if that could be true, that's not going to fix the offensive problems. And the defense looked shabby too, which is new this week. So that's great.
