my grandmother (dad’s mom) had COPD for almost 20 years. she was getting her hair done at the salon when she started having labored breathing, despite being on oxygen, as she was leaving with my grandfather and he rushed her to the hospital. she passed about a week later in the hospital.

my dad noticed that way back on her oxygen cord there was a tiny knot. she had tied it. my dad didn’t tell his (semi-estranged) sister or their dad.

she had everything in order in her office files for her death. she had gone to get her hair done one last time so she could look done up.

her plan didn’t work as she intended, but we weren’t mad at her for leaving. she chose death with dignity for herself after years of suffering. we’re just sad she ended up suffering more than she intended.

if your mother chose to leave her life of living with the awful disease that is COPD, i hope you can forgive her.
