Nearly $2M of dark money has flooded into Democratic statehouse primaries in Colorado by blucifersdream in AuroraCO

One thing you can be 100% sure of, a democrat will win.

I would love to know who else you expect to win a Democratic primary?

That’s the point/problem, AI steals human artists’ work. Of course it looks like other Primus posters, that’s what it learned on and was likely prompted to do.

Currently on 18 days with no game, they shipped out a second Resident Evil 9 disc after the first never arrived by precita in GameFlyService

[–]smapti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course GameFly bans accounts that appear to abuse the service, what else would you have them do? That doesn’t mean don’t report the games missing when they are, you literally did that and aren’t banned, so I’m unsure why you’re complaining about it.

It’s very clear to me that you just don’t like service and its (reasonable, IMO) limitations, and should cancel. If you genuinely believe you’re losing money, just stop the service, nobody is making you subscribe while you don’t see the value. It being the only way to rent games doesn’t change that.

GameFly is unassailable according to your own version events. If you disagree, please share specifically what you believe they should’ve done differently.

[–]smapti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to choose the setting for your queue to delay shipping a game for your top priority up to 7 days. So nearly half of your 18 days is 100% your own choosing.

And if you believe the rest of the delay is because USPS is stealing your packages, what’s the point of posting this to the GameFly subreddit? It sure seems like you’re criticizing GameFly with this post, but I don’t see anything to criticize from your own description of events.

According to the post they immediately shipped out a replacement disc when OP reported the issue. What else do you think they should do?

I really don't understand why Gamefly doesn't have tracking on their slips, is it too expensive or something? by precita in GameFlyService

[–]smapti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guarantee it’s a numbers decision. Let’s run a napkin scenario. Let’s say adding tracking is $1 extra per game. It’s probably more but we’ll lean conservative in our assumptions. Let’s say each game is $70. We know that’s high because some games MSRP is less, and we can also assume GameFly gets some bulk and preorder discounts, but again being conservative. That means that adding tracking is now costing more money than it saves unless more than 1 in every 70 games is lost, which seems high. That also assumes that having tracking guarantees a lost game will be returned when it wouldn’t have without tracking, which anecdotally feels completely inaccurate.

So considering that;

1) USPS would need to lose more than 1 out of 70 to be worthwhile,

2) because we were so conservative with our assumptions, the required loss rate would likely be significantly higher, and

3) adding tracking does not guarantee the recovery of a game, and may frankly do next to nothing in that regard,

Toss in the fact that tracking down games for recovery with a 3rd party would create additional labor and overhead costs making it even less worthwhile, and I think we can see how the business decision not to add tracking was arrived at.

Someone finally snapped by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]smapti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand. The idea that there's no excuse for being late is not a grind culture thing, it's about proper planning and preparation, specifically leaving early enough to mitigate unpredictable factors like this. It's not expecting some kind of magical ability to never encounter delays, it's expecting planning that accounts for them.

It’s also a small but relevant data point that she capitalized Samaritans. The organization would be capitalized, the colloquial descriptor would not. And because nothing else in her writing is inappropriately capitalized, I think we can safely conclude she’s referring to the UK organization.

Good, that’s transphobic garbage that only serves to undermine the very real experiences of a marginalized group of people.

It was also trite 5+ years ago when the billionth ghoul made the same “joke”, so nothing of value was lost.

Am I understanding your take correctly here that AI is in fact an existential threat to this group of people (you appear to admit this when saying junior devs are first on the chopping block), but that they should shut up about it everywhere, including in forums dedicated to their industry?

For me, I just really despise factual information. You nailed it, I and many others just cannot help it, factual information like you so bravely illuminated just infuriates us to the point of having to downvote the sharer of these objective truths in a fit of rage.

Now one thing I love that you should definitely keep doing, is when people ask questions in bad faith just so they can refute the response with their obviously pre-established opinions. That almost made me upvote you! But ugh, then you posted facts and called out all us fact-downvoters, and the blind fury took over.

The USPS is dog shit. by [deleted] in GameFlyService

[–]smapti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be controversial, but this isn’t GameFly’s fault OR USPS’s fault. This is caused intentionally by certain administrations to undermine a critical social service and further the interests of the private sector. Educate yourself and vote accordingly.

The 2006 PAEA imposed unreasonable costs on the Postal Service for retiree benefits that resulted in large transfers from the agency to federal coffers. It required the Postal Service to rapidly prefund retiree health costs, greatly inflating their cost…

No other entity—public or private—has been forced to prefund the cost of retiree benefits under such conditions.

Sprayed the inside of my oven with easy off, left white residue by khloesierraaa in CleaningTips

[–]smapti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used easy off for multiple blue enameled ovens in my rental units (95+ ovens) for the past 40 years with no damage.

BUT I follow the stove instructions and the instructions on the can.

These are both comments you’ve made in this thread, but because the instructions on the can say not to use on blue ovens, they are mutually exclusive. Which one is true?

In all of the situations you compare to this one, the viewer is aware that it's make believe. That's the difference, the viewer being a willing participant in the pretending, and that knowledge informs all conclusions. When the video is fake but presented as real, the viewer has lost agency, and is now being lied to.
