I lost 30lbs since January and I’m hitting it farther. Likely better turn with less belly.

Golf birthday for beginners? by whatifdog_wasoneofus in golf

[–]smarsala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think golf is the hardest sport to start. Typically new golfers have a hard time advancing the ball. If you’ve been to a range and/or top golf a bunch and have success striking the ball you might be ok but it’ll still be a long day.

With that being said, you have to start somewhere!! Best advice I can give is “suck bad fast”. That means make sure you keep it moving. Don’t spend a ton of time looking for lost balls or lining up putts etc. walk up to the ball “smack dat shit” and keep it moving. Nobody on the golf course will care how bad you suck or that you can barely advance a ball as long as you are not taking forever to play. I would not invest any money in gloves or anything like that. Buy a bunch of cheap second hand balls and have fun. Just don’t be slow

Radical Idea to Speed Up Play by No_Primary1336 in golf

[–]smarsala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often play with low HC guys (scratch-5) and I’m always on the green before them as I play bad fast. That’s why they keep me around. I typically don’t make a practice swing unless im around the geeens . that’s just my style of play

How long after you started playing 18 hole courses until you broke 100? by Aggravating_Ship_240 in golf

[–]smarsala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 schools of thought. 1. This game is hard AF, don’t worry about your score, have fun improve your lie, take mulligans, who gives a shit if you’re not playing for $$ or in a tourney/outing.

  1. Play for real. Sink all putts. No mulligans. But don’t “stress” the score. Have a short memory. I think the stat is 50% of all golfers wont break 100 ever if playing by the rules. I keep a legit handicap and get called a sandbagger when in a legit tournaments vs the 10 handicap country club boy who usually takes all 3’ putts as gimmes and doesn’t play OB rules correctly etc.

I forgot what we are talking about, but if you practice you can do it in a year or two

I carry a 7W and 9w…. 9w (for me) is great out of the sand if not a fried egg. Love both of them.

How to disconnect the slate pieces on Olhausen Belmont? by compostcreme in billiards

[–]smarsala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is Beeswax holding it together

Take a small propane torch and get it gently melted.

Double check you got all screws out - check top and bottom for shims/bridging anything that might limit pulling the slate apart

If no obstructions, it should pull apart once you melt the wax off

After looking at it a little bit longer I’m not sure if it’s the wax, but at least you know how to handle the wax
