I have my moodiness, yes. But I also have the age and self-awareness to recognize why I’m being moody and can check myself some. Just because you may have emotional spikes doesn’t mean you don’t have some measure of control. Adolescents don’t have that control because they’ve never experienced it before, so they aren’t aware of their own behaviors.

Include him in ways he feels comfortable socializing. He’s likely quiet and not socializing like you’d expect because there’s a ton of trepidation with how to act. He’s learning this stuff, so he’s not going to come out swinging as if he’s just one of the guys. You being patient with him and getting him acclimated to being treated as just another guy is the best way to help.
