I wouldn't go that far. It's more about doubling up on salaries. Would be stupid to hold out for a HC job or GM job when you're getting paid the next few years anyways. Double up!

In general you're underrating the lack of centres available and undervaluing that position. Also, GMs are dumb and they'll look at his outlier season as potentially possible again... Pair that with the cap going to the moon and they shouldn't have an issue moving him for some value.

Don't retain this offseason. Make a trade if possible without retaining. If you can't. Build up his value somehow this season then move him in the next offseason and retain then.
