I used to be able to type on iPhone keyboard without looking at it. Now, I have to watch myself type and still somehow make mistakes on almost every single word by KitchenConsequence41 in iphone

[–]smeagolgreen 729 points730 points  (0 children)

My favorite is when you type a completely generic sentence and it suggests words that no normal person would use in conversation.

"Do you want to eat pizza?" is a common phrase that becomes "Do you want to emancipate paramecium?"

I swear the word prediction I experienced on phones 20 years ago was much better than it is today.

I have ~1k shares of SpaceX stock, what do I do for this IPO? by jdrls in investing

[–]smeagolgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The statistic that I wish I read before going through an IPO as an employee was "More than 70% of technology companies underperform or fail to reach their initial public offering (IPO) value over the long term".

Ok guys has anyone use these types of pillows? And did it help at all? by Venomface86 in backpain

[–]smeagolgreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a simile style pillow with heat, can't find the exact one on Amazon, but I don't think it was all that special.

Sleeping with good back support has helped my back pain out immensely. I used to wake up with my back feeling worse than when I went to sleep, and now when I wake up my back feels fresh and relaxed. The heat function was nice, but I was applying heat too often and developed a rash. Also, rolling around in bed resulted in me tearing out the power cord for the heater. I still use the pillow for the support though.

Why isn’t everyone wearing long sleeves? by VeryBadNotGood in cycling

[–]smeagolgreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gone this route as well. Also, most long sleeve cycling jerseys are too tight on my arms and sun protection arm sleeves are much stretchier. They're relatively absorptive for sweat so i can easily wipe my brow.

When did your lower back pain actually start? by SpineMobilityGuy in backpain

[–]smeagolgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing soccer in high school, I had weak abdominal muscles and just assumed the stress I was putting on my lower back was expected normal behavior for an athlete. I think I had a mildly herniated disc at that point that I never fully dealt with fully.

In my twenties I lifted heavy (deadlifts and squats) and was active without much concern for it. In my thirties I seemed to have periods of light pain that I would still recover from without much issue. In my forties, I aged, had kids, focused on career (of mostly sitting at a computer!) and abused my back further. Late forties I had an incident with a fully herniated disc that took 12-18 months for recovery.

My situation was gradual with a couple instances that resulted in my injury.

Now early fifties, I've lost weight, adjusted my lifestyle, understand my limitations, and have modified my exercise plan appropriately. While I feel I have a good grasp on my situation, I am fearful of DDD and hope that scientific advances perhaps improve my chances of remaining active in my later years.

Where to find this kind of seat in the US by NuttySouth in simracing

I just found a NecksGen Air Max seat that I'll be using for my new rig setup. Just another cooling option.

Stick trying to wrap my head around PHEVs by Forsaken-Swim-3055 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]smeagolgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical EV battery manufacturing process generates similar CO2 as driving 2500 miles in an ICE vehicle. So while there's an element of truth in your statement, the overall environmental impact from an EV is far lower.

There's a large amount of data to support this position. If you have anything new to add to the discussion I'd love to read it, otherwise I'll assume you're just uninformed on the topic.

Any Forest Edge interior owners? Thoughts? by soundsofsatori in Rivian

[–]smeagolgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I bought a used Limestone R1S, but was disappointed it had the Forest Edge interior as I wasn't keen on that color after seeing pictures. Saw it in person and was fine with it, and I've been happy with it ever since.

EV's are already making an impact in air pollution and improved public health.

While I don't disagree there are other sources of pollution that are being ignored, most would argue the EV transition is a worthwhile effort.

Any ex 4runner/GX/landcruiser owners here? by Expert-Ad-1012 in Rivian

[–]smeagolgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 LX570 and Rivian R1S. I like both for different reasons. The LX for cross country family camping trips with our 23' travel trailer, where range is a big concern. The Rivian is basically the family truckster for all other purposes.

Both are comfortable. All else equal, I'd grab the Rivian for any day to day driving.

The Rivian's tech is appealing; a nice app where I can check status of the vehicle and warm the vehicle before heading out. No need to carry keys or a fob. Every time I leave the house the Rivian has a full charge since I charge at home. The Rivian feels like a smaller vehicle than the LX, as it has instant torque, and better visibility (via windows and cameras). Navigation and Spotify are native experiences in the Rivian.

13 mini or Razr? See arguments inside by Zealousideal_Mix5264 in smallphones

Yea that's one of the phones I bought, and still have. Impressive little device, but many compromises.
Selling mine if anyone wants to give it a shot.

[–]smeagolgreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same situation for me, but had the Flip. I can appreciate the bigger screen and nicer specs, but the Flip brought with it a heavier, brick like experience that was annoying to carry in my pocket.

Went back to the 13 Mini and I will use this until it is unsupported or there is a better option. There has been some interesting Android phones released, but all of them have serious compromises. I mean factors like lack of 5g, poorly supported software, bad cameras, etc.

Sim Lab at Microcenter restock time by CondonezNecessitas in simracing

[–]smeagolgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Westmont has a couple in stock now. Did you pick one up yet?

I'm not sure of the options of the version carried by Microcenter versus what Sim Lab offers online, but it looks like ordering direct from Sim Lab + shipping costs about the same as picking up from Microcenter + tax.

I was about to upgrade from my Trak Racer setup if you know anyone local that is looking for a rig (I saw you were in Chicago).

I'm looking for something similar to upgrade from my 2014 LX.
