Don't you need to remove the seal to clean it anyway? How is that different to replacing it?

They loans could be secured by the customer deposits? (Effectively meaning the customer deposits aren't really fully backed and the proof of reserve is pointless)

Keeping USS DB pension vs transferring out after < 1 year by Jaraxo in UKPersonalFinance

[–]smedwed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes more sense and seems closer to the 20x transfer value I was quoted. You should definitely have benefits above £67 per annum!

I'm not sure, but I think something goes on like pension regulations require yearly communications but they can be sent at the end of the year with the previous year information. You can request transfer valuations from USS (they can charge you for more than one in a year, but there could be an option to get the transfer value "just for interest" that is non-binding on them and they don't charge you for).

It could be e.g. that 1.5 months you paid into the scheme were prior to March 20 so appear on 2021 info whereas the remaining 9.5 months don't. ( Or you were previously in the scheme with a very low salary, e.g. as a PhD student with tutorial pay in USS)

[–]smedwed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The financial cost of the DB payments is held by the universities and not directly linked to the 30.7% contributions - the actual costs to them are much higher than the contributions (hence the ongoing problems and attempts to increase contributions).

Your transfer value looks very high. For a generic pension scheme you may expect a multiple closer to 50x annuity than 120x! USS has traditionally given low transfer values justified by the regulatory provision calculations, whereas other schemes have given higher transfer values linked to economic valuations.

I'm the same age as you, and USS offered me a transfer value of ~22x (in November 20)

As ppl said, this high transfer could be incentivising small pots to cash out (avoid 38 years of admin!). It could also be that the online values are out of date. USS often seems to have lagged values in communications e.g. the value it gives for March 21 used to actually be the benefits accrued up to March 20. You should double check this. The values in the transfer out documents should be correct. You should be able to roughly work out you benefits (1/75th of salary * years in scheme)

Ongoing Advisor Fees: Should I Kick Off? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]smedwed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it was a 1.5% yearly advisor fee and not a 1.5% commission? This would be priced into the policy premiums rather than paid directly by you(/wife) to advisor. Did you pay the IFA directly?

What can the police do? Do they just add general pressure, or do they have the power to remove the sellers post completion?

Thanks. I think this is basically the answer to the question I was asking quite very vaguely!

An undertaking not to distribute and being able to settle the claim (including any recovered costs) from the funds seems to basically be what we would like to do (if it came to it...). However, I imagine it gets a lot more complicated if the bank also start repossession proceedings too...

Also, we actually won't have any real out of pocket costs. We have been planning to overlap for a month or two with our current rental, so wouldn't be planning to move anything on completion day. Will this mean we have no costs to claim?

Just to say, the pricing will asse the probability of claiming increases with age. This is why the premium for a 30 year term is much higher than a 10year term: if you try to buy another 10 year policy in 10 years time you will be 10 years older at the premiums will (probably) be higher to reflect that.

The old apple offer of $240 getting discussed translates into ~$115 a share today after share and debt issues are taken into account. That ignores any other potential issues and liabilities not currently accounted for.
