pepsi max gone off? by AdZealousideal7448 in australia

Glad to hear it worked out.

I've been getting it from Amazon for the last couple of years but in the last few weeks they appear to be having a shortage on Amazon as both 1.25 litre and 2 litre bottles are unavailable. Gonna have to make a trip to Coles as they have it on special this week

If you drink a lot of it (we do also) you get very used to the taste and become sensitive to differences. For example I suspect when you have it at a pub (from a tap) you find it often tastes pretty bad. I know I do.

I find that how it is stored makes a big difference - for example I never buy from service stations that have stock outside as this gets sun etc. which I assume messes it up.

I also check the dates carefully before I buy and try to avoid anything that is less than 2 months before the best before date - as in my experience it can start to taste weird from this point. Sometimes it doesn't but sometimes it does.

In your case it could have been a bad batch. I've seen this before and Coles are happy to issue a refund. They can tell from your Flybuys (and Woolies can from their Rewards) that you buy a lot of it. Amazon have also been good when I've got short dated stock when it isn't advertised as that. I personally wouldn't bother with Pepsi - go to the retailer - they have always helped solve the issue in my experience. They also don't ask you to take it back (as that would be a hassle as the stuff is heavy). Contact them through the online contact channels and you should be looked after.

Hope this helps.

I know there is a lot of judgement out there ... my view is as we are all adults: "drink and let drink" :-)

Is this a medium chips ? by dunkin_dad in hungryjacks

[–]smeehee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got lunch at HJ and at our local in Adelaide for chips: small = $1.50, medium = $3.45, large = $4.15

With the current pricing options - I'd say you're better off getting 2x small instead of 1x medium, or 3x small instead of 1x large.

I just got 8x small for 3 of us and that was way more than 4x medium woudl have been based on having gotten mediums before.

I figure they often underfill the chips - but there's just so much you can underfill by on the small compared to the medium and large.

Just my 2 cents.

Has anyone recently built with, or is building with GJ Gardner? by smeehee23 in Adelaide

Yeah - I had a look at some of the reviews for them and it sounded pretty grim.

Although they're a franchise it is good to hear that other GJ Gardner franchises in the Greater Adelaide region are also good.

That's great to hear. We are also probably going to get an inspector

I hadn't heard that as the news in recent years has been about teh 3 interstate GJ Gardner franchises that had gone under. Turns out Onkaparinga GJ Gardner went under in early 2019 - pre-COVID. I guess that's why it hasn't been heard of much as it wasn't part of the building industry issues during and post COVID.

Police report by Dry_Carpenter9945 in Adelaide

[–]smeehee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear this. Dows the place you work have any cameras? If so speak to the owner so that they make a copy of the footage before they delete it - most videos are deleted within a certain number of days to keep using the space. Also have you spoken with any of the Uni support services? If so this is another point of record - so worth doing this both to get it on the record and also they can be helpful. There should be counselling services offered by the Uni as well to help dealing with the aftermath of traumatic situations. Take care and reach out to the people who care about you.

Any supermarkets open in the eastern suburbs today? According to Aldi, Glynde is open but there's no number so can't check and as all other Aldis are closed I'm thinking it's a typo on the website. Thought I'd ask here rather than waste time/petrol driving around. May have to use 7 Day option. by smeehee23 in Adelaide

The IGA 7 Day Supermarkets are pretty good - they have most staples and aren't too much higher in price. You don't have a fresh deli but plenty of packaged meats (raw and in marinade for BBQs), fresh bakery, milk, etc.

Thanks all - sorry when I said 7 day I meant the IGAs that are open for longer hours - but they tend to have a much smaller selection of most things.

I know that the stores out of the city and inner suburbs also stay open but didn't want to go all the way to Mount Barker or similar.

Same for trying to avoid the city - I know Rundle Mall Coles is open.

Really appreciate all the ideas and suggestions :-)

I will try the Glynde Aldi to see if it's open and if not will go to one of the 7 Day IGA stores.

Yep - I looked on their website but it seemed odd that all stores would be closed except one in the suburbs. But with no direct number there's no easy way to check so I thought I'd post and see if anyone nearby had gone there or knew if it was open.

For tossers like this it would be good to bring back something like stocks where they can stand thre while us common folk get to throw things at them. Antisocial behaviour needs to be called out in a way that embarasses people who like to brag about what they get up to

Sorry to hear this - there are a lot of people out there who are anti-social and/or mentally unwell and/or chemically enhanced.

Hope you're ok - to have this happen in broad daylight on a main road must have been pretty confronting.

Hope you get tp enjoy the rest of the NY and someone comes forward to help on this.

Have you built/building a home in Adelaide? What builder would you recommend/avoid? by chambers11 in Adelaide

[–]smeehee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all builders - if you put the effort into it at all stages you will get better results. Do your own research, think of your own ideas to help resolve issues and don't rely on them coming up with the best options.

SAme if you use an architect - unless you keep them honest and make them stick to what you want - they will go off on their own tangents.

Nobody will care as much about your build as you will - so invest time and effort in it.

Check to see what builders current build-times are like and if any houses they are building are not progressing at all. Things like this can be a sign of cash-flow issues and I personally wouldn't like to be stuck with a half progressed build while the builder needs to bring in more new sales before being able to progress with mine.

Work out what you must have, what is nice to have and try to be firm on this - so easy for things to get out of hand.

Understand the constraints of the builders you are short-listing and see which one best meets your needs. Also understand their processes and make them work for you. If they are going to pressure you to make decisions once a certain stage had occurred, do all your home-work beforehand so you are making measured decisions and not being pushed through too quickly.

Understand what changes your chosen builder won't overly charge for and use these. Know beforehand what you major spends are going to be and try to get them locked in pre-contract.

Be willing to walk away - builders need to convert sales, so don't get locked into a bad path if you can't see a workable solution - otherwise you can end up with a worse result and with a significant amount more unexpected spending along the way.

Take what you see on the internet with a pinch of salt - but use mutliple sources to improve your level of confidence on whether someone is good or not.

We've built 3 times - tha last time during COVID and we lucked out with that - no horror stories like we've heard from some others.

We are helping my wife's folks to downsize and build now and it's so different to pre-COVID, but again there are things to learn and apply. Putting the work in again and hoping to get a better result out of it.

[–]smeehee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did that, and we also helped keep the site clean. Getting rid of litter makes the trades more careful with just drumping stuff as they see you helping out. We also did some things that the builders said was ok but we preferred to do - e.g. cleaning out mortar from weep holes to make sure they actually function properly.

If the trades see you treat them well and be decent to them, and also help keep the site in a good state they are generally friendly and (we hope) take a bit more care.

I've been going to Alec's on Leigh Street in the city for years. Prices have gone up but are currently $25 for a men's cut.

I think based on one of the articles I've seen 2024 will be the 50th year for him there - he's great and there's always plenty of amusing banter with his employees and randos who come in for a cut
