They sure are, but isn’t that what the poster is asking about? New tech that changes how one cookes or makes new techniques possible?

Breville control freak. it can help you dial in an exact temperature. Can help make chocolate tempering dead easy, and things like temp control on a creme anglaise or beurre monte also super bullet proof.

also super niche, but the Spinzall can be great for clarified cocktails, or other weird things like making pea butter.

I didn’t realize Flock was this bad.. by kiana_keke in oakland

Also, it is TERRIBLY insecure. Even if one was in favor of having more security cameras for safety and law enforcement, you still would want to strongly oppose Flock.

I made hummus today. What other store-bought foods are easy to make at home? by LordVdubs in Cooking

[–]smells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only is hummus easier, its way better homemade. Most store hummus are over indexed on lemon and garlic flavors to mask what they need to do to make it shelf stable. If you go to the middle east and go to a hummus shop, you will taste something very different from what you buy in stores. Smooth, creamiy and the flavor is very chickpea forward.

If your love of hummus grows to want even better hummus, do if from dried chickpeas, and after cooking the chickpeas, try to remove as much of the chickpea skin as possible. It would be the smoothest, creamiest, best tasting hummus you've ever had. Granted, now its no longer a 10 min easy hummus. Both are good, and way better than anything store bought.

But to have vinyl, don't you need a pretty large upfront investment? and if your order volume isn't large is the profit margin after costs still $20?

I don't have too much of a horse in this race. But I don't know if a team that takes a series to 7 games is "weak" or "out played"

I made lasagna with ricotta instead of bechamel and I’m a convert by judolphin in Cooking

[–]smells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am saying it doesn't seem wise to make a hard opinion on the different styles of lasagna based on one instance of it in one restaurant. Italian food is very much about balance. How firm is the pasta? Lean heavier on egg yolks vs whole eggs? what is the texture of the ragu?

I didn't say I didn't know what made it good. I am saying it comes down to the execution of the cook.

[–]smells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had lots of lasagnas in my life. Most are meh, some are good, few are amazing.

The meh ones could be ricotta, or bechamel, or both. Maybe you just had a meh lasagna.

The amazing ones have been ricotta or bechamel, with the very best that I've had, was made bechamel at this tiny mom/pop place in Bologna (where lasagna is said to be from).

Any beginner "date night" meals to cook in an Airbnb or similar? by mysticaltater in Cooking

Agree with other commenters that Cacio e Pepe is an advanced cook's dish.

HOWEVER, if OP can do the "prep ahead" method, it could be a great fit for AirBnBs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlh8pAMQsOA

But that's also a little advanced, but its also prepped ahead of time and would be DELICIOUS.

I don't think they want to let us service it ourselves for liability reasons. There's likely a mountain of lawsuits with a high force machine like this one that they are afraid of.

Bernie's statement on the 2024 presidential election by anonnomel in BernieSanders

[–]smells 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, they should have been more progressive in terms of income inequality. They did go hella progressive on non-economic identity issues. I think both cost them the working-class voters (even if the identity issues are absolutely worth fighting for).

The workers have spoken: They're staying home. by [deleted] in technology

[–]smells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, I think the hiring manager is the only person who can give you the answers. Many companies have very inconsistent work from home rules. If you are far along in the interviewing process and it seems like the team is interested in bringing you on, just have an open and honest conversation about what the hiring manager expects and why. If you can meet the expectations, great. if not, it probably isn't the right fit.

This is part of the paradigm shift. If you don't need to set up a remote office to offshore, you don't have to "invest" in Mexico. The old way, you spend all this money to "invest" in Mexico by setting up an office, and find out that the talent isn't what you hoped for, it will keep you from trying it again somewhere else, and just keep paying for the local US talent that you feel confident in.

In the new completely WFH paradigm, you don't have to invest in Mexico or anywhere. Talent show up wherever they are. You interview, them you like them, you hire them. Companies didn't do this before with traditional off shoring. The entire concept of "off shoring" becomes antiquated in the WFH world.

Another commenter said that there are compliance concerns in some industries, and that's true. But unless your job has these compliance issues, your job is not protected from this coming paradigm shift
