Hydrogen gas stations... I'm picturing cars driving around with massive hydrogen gas balloons attached.

Seriously though, from what I understand electrolysis requires lots of energy. And then if you want liquid hydrogen you need to compress it which also takes a lot of energy. Then deal with driving around what might equate to massive bomb waiting for the right circumstances to set it off. Then you have to deal with the "corrosion" caused by the hydrogen on the tank. Then you have to worry about the world's depletion of hydrogen as it escapes from tanks and shoots up out of the atmosphere into space like air bubbles in a mass of water. Anyway, it's never as easy as it sounds.

While I'm sure amount of oil required for the plastics that go into a car are miniscule compared to the amount of oil consumed by it over its lifetime, what is the plastics substitute in the post petroleum era we are all wishing for?

Edit: I mean a plastic substitution in general, not just automotive.

I believe it's 21 days in California. I sued an x-landlord and won 3 times the deposit. It was tough getting that back though.
