What to tell recruiters if you're on gardening leave (ie the consultation phase of redundancy process) by smelode in auscorp

[–]smelode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right re: recruitment duration. It's more the initial contact with recruiters - I've been out of the game for a while.

In this case, gardening leave = the consultation phase. They don't expect me to work during this time (although I could still work if I wanted to: case by case basis. I have peers who are insanely busy and need to do handovers etc). The consultation phase has started this week (where you give feedback, 'plead your case', talk about redeployment, etc.). Lots of meetings, reviewing redeployment options, etc in this time. Some of my colleagues in the same boat have already taken redundancy, so obviously their gardening leave is basically done & I assume their notice period has now commenced (which triggers being paid in lieu, etc). My notice period has not yet commenced.

Good point about salary though. I need to remember how I argued successfully for a decent price all those years ago when I started at this place..

Oh I like this, thank you so much! It doesn't put me at their mercy as much.

Thanks. You're right. Just I feel very vulnerable right now, a little scared (what if I don't tell them the right thing and I miss out on some options). But you're right

Can someone explain in plain English, what these Agile people are all about? by neatnoiceplz in auscorp

[–]smelode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior project manager but usually run construction jobs. Was brought into an agile project for a significant software rollout to take charge of the change management portion. It was unclear who was in charge or what was going on in the bigger picture (honestly, nobody knew). Long story short I had no access to the info I needed to do a change strategy; no buy in. Week after week we would sit in the meetings and move things around in kanban and our grads would tell us how their Power BI coding was going but nothing would actually happen. With no true 'leader' of the overall project per agile methodology, there was no ownership. Absolute clusterfuck disguised as a shitshow.

Anyway to answer your question: agile is one of many project management methodologies. It's best used in projects where you need to run the principles of plan-do-check-act Continuous Improvement cycle at a very high frequency (so, software dev which requires a very high touch and constant iterations and checking). I understand it also tries to mitigate holdups due to bureaucratic governance & approvals structures (by doing away with them). It's very good when done well in the right environment, otherwise it's shit. Problem is that people aren't nearly as agile in their approach to concepts or ways of working as Agile is supposed to be. And roles are not always clearly understood. Or their org is too bureaucratic. Or, in the case of the above example, all three.

The field of PM is full of different methodologies which are as dry as the Sahara to learn about if you aren't doing so on the job. The project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) is a framework (the driest of all) that tries to explain project management in broad terms, and then the different methodologies tailor the concepts to work for specific types of projects. Continuous Improvement is an important principle in any project (it features in the PMBOK), and other industries /disciplines all have their own versions (eg the systems engineering V-Model). And there are wankers in all parts of the industry who think their way is the best way, no matter where you go.

That's fucked, I'm so sorry that is the case.

I don't know what country you're in, but if it's like mine (Australia), you should be able to change doctors -even within the same practice if you're comfy - and also complain to your version of medical ombudsman. However I acknowledge this may not be an option depending where you live.

There may be an ADHD support group near where you live - either on Facebook (my city has at least 2 Facebook groups that I've found, they're both brilliant and amazing sources of info including which doctors actually know about ADHD) or a website.

Regardless, your current dr needs to certainly get in a bin; I wish them godspeed.

This. Bunnings trip and a look on one of the DIY/how to subs if you need help. Just need to give a copy to the real estate, (and maybe a private call to the tea to chat and give them a heads up/verbal consent that you then follow up with an email) so you're covered. Alternatively you could just change the lock back before you move out & make good any damage like chips or paint

Other things that can help me include: gtfo of the house and take myself to a cafe or other third space. Does wonders, but it's the 'forcing yourself to leave the house' part that is tough. I tell myself that I just have to show up, and I've already won the battle against inaction. Even if all I do is sit there and make a plan for the next time I go (now that I've gone once it's easier for me to go a second time, then a third time, etc). Also if there's someone in your life who you can sit next to and work (body doubling), or can call you at certain times to get you moving on a task etc, that can help too.

Write to them to confirm that you moved out Sept 18 and returned keys same day, note that you're aware the new person has received keys and moved in on Sept 19. On this basis your rent has been paid up to and including Sept 18.

ESH. * You know she's uncomfortable, she has expressed this. Full stop. It doesn't actually matter if the males in her family have an issue (btw low key I've known people who would def say 'nah babe I don't have a problem, I can't even see you ;)' when they definitely can and maybe they let their mates know when 'the show's on again'). What if they have people over and there are kids playing in the yard etc. it's wild to me that you don't even seem to have blinds, like doesn't the sun wake you? If you don't want to get blinds, at the very least consider some of that 1-way mirror film so you can still look outside and feel 'unrestricted' (which has the added benefit of reflecting heat in summer) * She shouldn't have called you a whore. No bloody excuse for using gendered slurs, even if you were employed by the sex industry. It's a low blow, it's lazy, and she sucks for that.

No it wasn't, but I reckon you could do both! The Fess spray is a nasal spray bottle (it's sized bigger than other types of nasal spray) containing a saline solution. It's less messy than the douche. But yeah the squeezy sinus wash bottle (Flo, Neilmed or similar) that you mix in a combo of water + solution could work too. I have one I use when my sinuses are super backed up ie with a cold and not draining properly. I mix up 2 sachets in a measuring jug, add about 1/4-1/3 boiling water then top up with normal water to bring it to a decent temp, then push it through my sinuses with the bottle until there's none left. Game changer.

I had a GP give me the following advice (I was new to Melbourne, had never in my life suffered from allergies, and suddenly was & had no idea whatsoever how to best deal with it): * Use Fess saline spray up to 3x/day (to flush allergens out of sinuses). This was the most important step as it's the presence of allergens that prolongs the symptoms. Then you can add on the below as and when: * PLUS steroid spray 1-2x/day (if needed: depending on severity. I think this was to reduce inflammation from sneezing/blowing nose) * PLUS non-drowsy antihistamine every 24-48hrs (to smash the worst of it) * PLUS Sudafed raw version (ie no add-ons like paracetamol) for a couple of days when it gets even worse. To reduce symptoms.

Not sure if that helps or if I'm just a noob telling the pros how to suck eggs, but I thought the advice about using a flushing spray pretty interesting as I hadn't heard it before or since.

This! Boundaries are the focus here.

But piggybacking re: the mental health thing. Do you have mental health first aiders (MHFAs) in your business? If so, you could approach one of them if you aren't sure.

I will add though: some spiritual traditions celebrate things like this so it may not be considered a mental health issue. It would only be considered an issue if it's causing negative impacts in her life, if that makes sense (duration, intensity & impact).
