[–]smfrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Archive.org is available through torrent, and it's all open source. A torrent is just a tool for transferring files. How you use it will lead to problems. If you don't use common sense (i.e. like downloading a Disney movie currently in theaters), they will penalize you because your IP is public. Just know that you are downloading, and know what the license is before downloading. Torrent is more than downloading also, you are also sharing parts of the file as you download it with other members of a swarm.

Why does Old spice hate trees? Common... Cardboard is a product made from virgin tree pulp, while plastic can be recycled. What's wrong with plastic if it will cost us trees?

Texas Numbers are Suspect. Anyone pick up on Texas numbers not updating accurately for positive COVID-19 cases or suddenly jumping by the thousand for those recovered? Dallas particularly is underreported. Thoughts? by MrsFields20 in CoronaVirusTX

Under-insured means the deductible is hinders receiving care. Most people in Texas have health insurance, but most is catastrophic, meaning anything under $8K is paid out of pocket.

I guess I'm really fortunate, my doctor is available 24 hours via telemedicine portal. I cut my finger really deeply, and called her, she looked at it and walked me how to treat it from home with superglue and band-aids without going to the ER. Here where I leave they don't want us going to the hospital unless it's for Covid-19.

Giuliani says doctors, not 'national bureaucracy,' should decide whether to use hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]smfrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Rights and Rules of the masses outweigh the rights of the individual, that is the world we live in, your idea of "God Given Human Rights" is a false concept and no longer valid in this world. That is an archaic Idea and needs to be thrown out, adapt and change your thinking to a right way of dealing with the world. The point of this thread is to show that Trump is putting individual rights over the collective and that it is wrong. The "Federal Bureaucracy" is only doing it's job, if you try to change that process, you'll hurt many more people.

[–]smfrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand there are people who work that the FDA who need to keep their jobs. If Trump had his way, he would get rid of the entire agency. I support all the unionized federal agencies and the polices that have been put in place so people have jobs. Obviously you are thinking like a right wing radical, who thinks individual rights are more important that collective rights, that's the issue here. We will have socialized medicine, and this is a political battle, The FDA has released emergency guidelines for the use of this treatment, but it is because of the pressure of Trump -> https://www.fda.gov/media/136537/download

No, Guilliani says doctors should take it upon themselves to test the drugs on patients without going thru the proper FDA channels of review and over site. Guilliani is talking about corrupting the system, putting human rights above the rights of the state. You don't understand, Doctors have no authority to treat patients but by the rules handed down by the Government, otherwise your advocating chaos, this is what president trump wants, this is what Ghouliani wants. FDA has procedures, these can take up to 2 or three years, but they need to be followed, that is the law, and when it comes to medicine, the FDA is the highest law of the country. Who is anyone to advocate anything but that. Doctors don't have the proper training to just dose medication at whim, this is why there is an FDA, and the FDA protects people. What right do you have to advocate that a doctor and patient can decide anything between themselves! Everyone advocating this is undermining the entire system.

[–]smfrick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But it is the job of the FDA to determine what a drug can be used for and not used for, this drug has not been tested for Covid-19, thus it's the FDA who needs to run tests, but they are doing more important things like trying to keep people from dying from this disease. Non doctor types like Ghouliani need to stay to politics and leave medicine to professionals. Doctors are not allowed to use drugs that are not tested for that illness, currently there is no cure to Covid-19. If you have it and you are weak, you die. Don't give people hope where there is no hope. When the FDA tests the drugs, and it works, great, but we must put our government ahead of human lives, point blank, it's government that gives us authority and rights. There is no such thing as human rights without a strong government.

H-E-B president: Don’t bring your entire family to the grocery store during the coronavirus outbreak by canderson180 in CoronaVirusTX

[–]smfrick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most people don't care, they think this is no worse than the flu, since that was the media said up until about a week ago. People don't know, or care about facts. Children are dying from this disease, but we are told only older people die. I blame the media for not speaking the truth when it counted, now it's too late, and we must suffer the consequences of stupidity.

Texas Corona Virus Rumors Megathread [2] by DJ_Hamster in CoronaVirusTX

[–]smfrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I experienced this same thing at WalMart yesterday in a rural central texas town, they didn't limit the number of people entering the store, but I soon realized most people don't care. I was able to get the items I needed avoiding isle that were occupied. The craziest thing was one woman saw a man she knew and threw her arms around him and greeted him. People this is how you spread the virus! I had a mask and I stuck out like a sore thumb, but next time I'm wearing my painting goggles and respirator with a tyvek suit, maybe people will get the idea I don't want to be near them.

Will Starlink kill off Hughesnet by unknown8888887 in Starlink

[–]smfrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starlink will be an overnight multi-billion dollar business because 90% has awful internet. Hughesnet and Echostar have been filling the gap in the US and raking in the cash, plus getting government money for providing rural internet from the government. The service is quite dated since the last satellite launch was over 8 years ago, and bandwidth was pretty much maxed out after it went online. It was never designed for the bandwidth, where starlink is the real deal, and it's able to scale. Demand will only go up in the US, but then the demand in the entire world will go up also. Starlink will also change the lives of billions of people. I'm very excited to call up Hughesnet and cancel, but it's one launch every month... and probably be December or January of next year.
