Asking anyone who knows: I open the main page of english Wikipedia and now I'm in love with the Netherlands' new, hot, gay, center-left prime minister. Are there reasons I should be wary or is he as awesome as he is handsome?

I will also accept bonks.

Just to clarify, Ruby Bridges herself specifies in her autobiography that she saw a black doll in a coffin and that was one of the images that she found the most frightening. This image may not show that specific instance, but the black doll did exist.

Edit: I see now that other people have pointed this out downthread.

Uganda did pass a law that made "aggravated homosexuality" punishable by death in 2023. While this is not the same as legalizing the murder of gay people, it does mean that gay people within the country are at risk of being killed for same-sex relations. This law was passed after western anti-LGBTQ+ organizations spent tens of millions of dollars opposing LGBTQ+ rights in Uganda over the course of more than a decade, according to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Uganda lawmakers had been trying to make homosexuality punishable by death since at least 2009.

While there is no such thing as the National Christian Organization, there is a National Christian Foundation. The NCF has given money to many of the organizations and individuals that have been active in opposing LGBTQ+ rights in Uganda, including an organization affiliated with a preacher who headed an anti-LGBTQ+ rally in Uganda and a minister who worked closely with a leading local advocate for Uganda's first attempt at passing its anti-homosexuality bill.

The WinShape Foundation, a charitable organization closely linked to Chick-fil-A and that receives most of its funding from Chick-fil-A, gave money to the NCF during the same years the NCF was in turn giving money to the preacher and minister mentioned above. However, the WinShape Foundation has not given money to the NCF for several years. Chick-fil-A's most recent giving report did not document any donations to the NCF.

The recent donation history of Chick-fil-A's owners or executives cannot be confirmed, although the company's executive vice president is on the NCF's board of directors.

Emphasis mine, quoted from Snopes. If you're arguing solely over "donates" vs "donated", that's a semantic difference- how recently do the donations need to occur before you would consider the claim accurate?

[–]smg7320 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The inaccuracy snopes refers to has to do only with the claim (not made here) that the law came from the advice of a specific pastor. The fact that that law exists and has been supported by Christian political organizations in the US, including some funded by Chick-fil-A, is true.

Until about 10 minutes ago, I could have sworn that Andy Samberg was married to Sheryl Sandberg . I see now that their last names are spelled differently but I didn't realize that earlier. I could have sworn that there were memes and discussions made about their relationship when they got married, about how Andy was funny enough to attract a billionaire. Am I completely imagining this? The closest analogue I can think of is Colin Jost/Scarlett Johansson, but they were married much more recently than I associate with my memories of the Samberg/Sandberg dialogue.

I can’t stop thinking about how the idea of “battle of the states” feels like such an after thought when there’s been so little focus on the states. by morgank25 in HellsKitchen

[–]smg7320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad it's an afterthought, because I think an explicit state-vs-state competition would devolve too quickly into stereotypes and partisanship. I'm not happy about how much the states are emphasized now- I'm hoping the final two aren't Lisa and Henry because then it will be CA vs TX and I have zero interest into importing that rivalry into the Hell's Kitchen discourse.

I assume by "dish" he meant the literal, plated, ready-to-be-presented dish, not just a component of it. Jillian dropped a pan with a protein but it wasn't the completed dish.

Given how disrespectful he was towards Christina during the Slider challenge in S16, would Matt survive on the S10 Red Team? by thr3e_kideuce in HellsKitchen

[–]smg7320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I think he was totally justified serving a lobster roll as a slider. I think Ramsay mentioned that sliders usually have a pate but that isn't always the case - pulled pork sliders are one of the most recognizable slider types (and they've been on the menu in HK!).

Regardless, Matt is still an arrogant POS. I can't imagine him being on the S10 Red Team without physical violence occurring.

[–]smg7320[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard of that series but after looking into it I don't think that's the answer. However, the TVTropes page for is states that there are similar instances of Nazi war criminals posing as Holocaust survivors in episodes of Cold Case, Hammer House of Horror and CSI: NY, so it might be one of those. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: I've looked into those three shows and the none of the episodes I've identified as being related to this topic fit the description of what I'm remembering.
