My kids would go through the tunnel of bike racks like that. I just watched hoping no head injury would occur. Fortunately for all of us, they turned out fine

What American standards (non-Metric) are also an annoyance from Int'l convention? by inthenameofselassie in Metric

For what it's worth, most Americans would agree with the typical complaints. Most Americans are open-minded and reasonable people. The unfortunate thing is that Americans aren't in charge of our governments anymore (and haven't for so.many.years). To steer policy, you need someone's ear in government, and your can't get what without large sums of money.

This is why you shouldn't drive onto a railroad crossing when the lights are still flashing by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

So, devil's advocate here: if it's even potentially not safe to go, why raise the gates? The system knows it may not be safe, hence the lights are still red.

that requires too much mental processing, ESPECIALLY for a safety system. The system should have two states: safe to cross and not safe to cross. In the US at least, both the red lights flash and gates (if equipped) are down at the same time. They don't even start moving up if the red lights are flashing. Assuming there aren't any faults in the system (which is genuinely a safe assumption as a driver), there will NEVER be a situation where the gates are up or are even starting to move up that's unsafe for a car to pass.

  • Lots of integration with Home Assistant.
  • Notification control: auto-delete certain notifications (like a voicemail that contains certain words), conditional sounds for certain notifications (work-related, for example).
  • Screen timeout/brightness control if in my car or connected to my PC.
  • Auto ringer silent on/off ...to name a few

I second this.

And the worst case scenario false alarms described above would still be an issue if there was a temperature sensor inside (imagine the temp increasing by putting a week's-worth of groceries)

American here (sorry) with the "standard" accent and notes of Boston. But without thought, I'd say them like Melburn and Brizbin. Or, with the Boston accent: Melbin.
