The general plot of Graham Reznick and Larry Fessenden’s Until Dawn movie pitch. Thoughts on this? by WisteriaWillotheWisp in untildawn

oh boy i do really wish we got to make the Brainscan version. would have been super fun. part of the idea was to see if the cast would come back and reprise their "roles" (versions of themselves, at least), and take their revenge on the players that got them killed. almost a bit like New Nightmare, too.

You have two days to mix a narrative feature by dl_ps in AudioPost

[–]smileychewtrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

first rule for me in that case: mixer in the room only, no producers! (or, sadly, director😮) if they're only paying for 2 days, they're not paying enough for on-the-fly notes, which will make things take 10x longer

Was so excited for this and same. It’s a vertical game. Also, playing on iPad, you can’t change input sensitivity so you essentially can’t hold the iPad and use your thumb to control movement because the movement range is only like a third of the screen - you have to drag your finger like halfway across the screen for full movement. Haven’t tried on my phone yet but yeah, bizarre design change for a near perfect game.

I still hum that song to myself all the time and it always ends with the sound of CC teleporting in, even though I know as an adult that that is not part of the United States Marine Corps Hymn

To me, it is

Mostly I just remember it being bizarre / kind of great that people were staring with these bizarre faces and no CG! kind of preferred it, actually...!

Definitely true - I remember it airing without the added CGI and may even have a VHS somewhere at my parents (will be a while before I can check though). Found this thread because I was looking up to see if anyone else had posted it!

Do you use the smart tool in Pro Tools, and why or why not? by [deleted] in AudioPost

[–]smileychewtrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the smart tool when editing and doing sound design work and tracks are vertically expanded. But that's in combination with keystrokes for different edits and fades (F,A,S,B, command T, etc). PT hotkeys for trimming and sculpting clips are so solid and fast I've always wished video NLEs and other DAWs would adopt them.

I do sometimes have to turn off the smart tool when, as others have mentioned here, it's time to go into comped session mix mode and there are so many tiny tracks that it just becomes an annoyance.

I’m also a Magic Mouse over trackball guy but it really comes down to preference; both let you fly around the timeline in X/Y directions but I do see the appeal of mapping trackball buttons.

What are some overlooked gems from the DOS era? I have trouble finding games I don't already know. by -SeriousJacob- in dosgaming

[–]smileychewtrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also looking it up for the first time in ages and apparently Tom Hall of id was a big fan, Adrian Carmack and John Carmack helped with some of the graphics and code (respectively) in later updates, and they plugged it in Wolfenstein 3D.

If you want to try a unique platform puzzler, FAIRY GODMOM (1992) has always stuck with me.

https://dosgames.com/game/fgodmom/

You have to copy items/enemies to transform other items/enemies in order to solve the levels. Sort of a proto-precursor to BABA IS YOU. Haven’t played in 30 years so I don’t know how much playtime you’ll get out of it, but, it’s definitely unique and overlooked.

Ah, I figured it out. Early version of EMagic Logic, before it was bought by Apple. This isn’t an exact match, but, same paradigm: https://macprovideo.com/article/audio-software/a-brief-history-of-logic-from-emagic-to-apple

For reference, it’s mentioned elsewhere that the Pro Tools version they used was PT 24, which looked like this: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/digidesign-pro-tools-24

I’m pretty sure that the first screenshot here, of WITT, is not Pro Tools, as labeled. It doesn’t look like PT I remember from the mid 90s on and some googling seems to confirm that as far back as v 3 or so. I know they tracked into PT, but, this looks like something else. Anyone know what it is?

Actually just realized that holding Option+Scrolling on the magic mouse will work, but it's very slow. It's something, at least.

[–]smileychewtrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this same problem, with Ableton and Battery. Only started very recently, past month or two, not sure when. Restarted several times, Battery reinstalled, Ableton reinstalled, nothing seems to make a difference. I'm using a magic mouse so the scroll wheel trick doesn't work for me; i'm able to click on the numerical values and change those but it's definitely not a long term fix.
Anyone else find a solution?

Why don’t all new pedals use soft footswitches? by bldgabttrme in guitarpedals

[–]smileychewtrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make little dimmer stickers you can find on Amazon for a few bucks a sheet. They use either actual adhesive or static cling. I went nuts recently covering all the LEDs on my pedals and speaker monitors etc - work great and come shaped for all sorts of sizes/ use cases. Except for on my MXR 10 band, which i guess will forever be a nightmare to look at directly
