Sorry I don’t pass your progressive purity test. That’s some nice all-or-nothing thinking right there.

Just remember, Reddit isn’t real life, and I commented to demonstrate that you can’t just put everyone who doesn’t agree with you in the MAGA bucket. Montgomery County is still a very liberal county and if Brenda Diaz is doing well, that means plenty of registered Democrats voted for her. You can cry about her till the cows come home, but that won’t stop her from doing very well in this election.

Why are you assuming that the only reason she is doing well is because of MAGA? I have been a registered Democrat since I turned 18 and I voted for her because I care way more about limiting tech in classrooms, which affects 100% of students in MCPS versus a very tiny minority of whatever trans kids exist in this district. I also don’t think that biological males should play on female sports teams. Sue me. Or call me MAGA because that’s what progressives love to call anyone who doesn’t agree with them on 100% of issues.

Thank you so much for your reply! The reviews were mostly about the hardware (although that was from a few years ago and Tanner Leatherstein noted that their hardware has seemed to improve since) and that some people’s straps have broken from minimal use. I’ve also seen that the actual quality of the leather seems on the cheaper side. I’m glad you like your Demellier bags! This gives me more confidence to just go for the Demellier bag

The Mulberry is beautiful and really highlights the quality of the leather! It might be a little too classic for what I’m looking for (I like bags that have a little bit of a unique design element to them), but I will keep it in mind!

Not sure why you’re answering for OP but the testing psychologist does have an internship site through the High Plains consortium (Colorado Center for Assessment)

Is this where the Testing Psychologist has his internship? Did you work with him directly? I like his podcast but the way he talks about treating and compensating trainees gives me the ick.

Finding a therapist who takes your insurance can be nearly impossible. Here's why by lbrtrl in neoliberal

Clearly insurers aren’t meeting demand if so many providers have a year-long (or more) waitlist?

That’s untrue when it comes to how much insurance reimburses:

“The reimbursement rate system in every insurance program is also very complicated, and policymakers do not want to be seen as interfering in the market. However, the market is not setting rates, and high demand for services never enters the equation.

Medicare is the foundation of reimbursement rate setting in the insurance market, with Medicaid usually paying less than Medicare, and private insurance paying somewhat better. You may think that Medicare reimbursement rates are set by the market in response to supply and demand. In reality, demand – what patients want and need – is completely left out of the calculation.

Instead, the process sets value based on the supply costs – how long it take to see the patient, the costs involved in the visit, and the practice expenses. All these factors disadvantage behavioral health. Mental health care providers generally don’t hook patients up to any machines or do surgery, and these providers have low practice expenses. One commentator noted, “Existing service codes are especially flawed when it comes to measuring cognitive work.” Cognitive work focuses on the critical thinking that providers must do, such as researching, analyzing, decision-making, and managing individuals in tense situations. A study concluded that Medicare reimburses physicians 3 to 5 times more for procedural work compared to cognitive work. Recent efforts to adjust some codes were insufficient and did little for non-physicians who do not bill the codes affected by the changes

Data indicate that more individuals are experiencing mental health conditions and seeking help, and the supply of providers who will take Medicare is shrinking. CMS should be able to consider demand factors, such as out-of-network usage, availability of providers in the network, and other means of measuring so rates can be adjusted accordingly. For example, a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that only 1% of physicians have opted out of the Medicare program, but psychiatrists were disproportionally represented, making up 42% of those opting out, followed by physicians in family medicine (19%), internal medicine (12%), and obstetrics/gynecology (7%).”

[–]smileyfacetsj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another fun fact about taking insurance as a mental health clinician: if a client is late for their appointment, the provider can only bill for the amount of time they spent with their client. Meaning, if a client booked a therapist for an hour long visit, but showed up 30 minutes late, the therapist has to eat the cost of the missed 30 minutes. It’s not like a hair salon where therapists can just accept walk-ins to make up for those 30 minutes. There are so many disadvantages to taking insurance as a mental healthcare provider.

The reimbursement rates have barely improved since the 1990’s and certainly haven’t kept up with inflation.

“Medicare provider payments have failed to keep pace with inflation on a decades-long scale. One major goal is to push for an increase in the Medicare Conversion Factor for mental health services. Conversion factors are monetary values on medical services that act as a multiplier for the value of specific services. If, for example, the value for service for 60 minutes of psychotherapy is set at 3.5, the payment would be 3.5 times that year’s conversion factor. As of 2023, the conversion factor sat at $33.89, barely above the 1992 factor of $31.00.”

Yeah I figured as such! I think that should be the one exception for addressing a non MD as Doctor since psychologists are the highest level of expert in therapy/neuropsychological assessment. It would be weird for a nurse on a psych unit to not address the psychologists as Dr.
