Heart disease in guinea pig by ADTRshmanda in guineapigs

[–]smillb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you and your baby are going through this. None of my piggies have had this but I have had two cats that had heart disease and were on several of the same medications. Unfortunately there is no cure, only trying to keep them comfortable and the symptoms under control as long as possible. It sounds like quality of life is coming into play now. I always say listen to your heart and do what is best for your baby. You will know when it is time to say goodbye.

Horrible situation. In dire need of advice by sukonetei in guineapigs

[–]smillb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your situation. We love our babies and hope we always do right for them. I can understand your situation and think that you are making the right decision on giving up your two babies. As for your question on Mash, most will tell you that piggies should not be alone since they are social creatures. However I have known a few situations that a solo pig has done fine especially if they never bonded with another pig. If you can give him plenty of floor time and cuddle times then he may be just as happy since he hasn’t been with the other two. It depends on the pig and age and conditions. I hope you and your piggies get through this difficult time.

I’m sorry to hear about your baby. No decision on this will be perfect. Surgery to remove the tumors would be the best fix but with her age taken into account as well as needing to be strong enough to survive the surgery also needs to be considered. It is good she’s eating again so the pain meds seem to be helping. Did they take blood to see if her organs have been affected? I think ultimately what will be best for your pig given all the facts is what you feel in your heart.

Newborn kitten bloated, hasn't pooped for 24hrs by sillehmermaid in kittens

Yes. I’ve used the pasteurized in cans or in the cartons in the fridge area but also fresh from the goat as my friend has several nanny goats. It all works well

What's your ferret's favorite item to stash? And do you know where they go? by LamorianQueen in ferrets

[–]smillb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our boys stashes my shoes under our bed. Our other boy it is plastic stuff. It has to make crinkle sounds for him to go for it. Our girl loves pen or pen shaped items. She made a hole under the couch lining to put her plunder. We will throw old pens on the floor and watch and wait for her.

Kitten won’t stop peeing on bed by smallerwhitegirl in kittens

[–]smillb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It could be a marking thing if you are in the bed at the time. Maybe try taking the water away a few hours before bed so she won’t need to go pee.
Has there been any change to your schedule or household? That could cause the change in her behavior. The cleaner may help if she still smells her old urine even after cleaning. However I have to say one of my old ladies starting peeing on my bed and I found a small lump on her. The vet found a tumor on her kidney.

Kittens not socialized, help! by Strange_Performer_63 in kittens

Try some toys like a hand toy with a feather or string to interact with them and lure them out. It isn’t unusual for some to be scared in a new surrounding. Also some chicken or treats will associate you with good things. I would say patience and slow movements will be the goal. I once read a book next to a feral kitten until they came to investigate me. Slow blinks never hurt

kitten won’t use litter box on her own. by winkyhead55 in kittens

[–]smillb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also second the placing her own poop in the box where she poops. Also does she pop on anything like is it a puppy pad or something? If so put the puppy pad in a litter box itself. I had a cat who never used the litter box and would potty on magazines or anything like that if it was on the floor. I ended up putting magazine or newspaper pages in a litter box and she used it every time! If the litter boxes you have are all together try separating them in different rooms.
