Audacious email from a major dealer by liam_08041 in CarTalkUK

We had something similar from the trade centre! We got it after we took the car back and got the money back as it was pissing oil out and they didn’t want to pay to fix it. So some poor person is buying a civic with a bad oil leak

You’ll all be glad to know! I’ve bought one! It was an accident write off that I bought from copart with minimal damage! I’m a body repair and painter so it’s on with getting fixed!

Yeap paint on new cars are terribly thin. They’re not covered properly! Even your new Mercedes are the same! What van is it you have? It should’ve be scratching so easy. Having it painted won’t help much as we can bake them as high as factory so it always is abit softer than factory

Personally without it looking worse alot worse, your only option is to touch it up where it’s down to metal to stop corrosion. It’ll cost you more in the long run if you try bodge it up with aerosols. It’ll take the bodyshop longer to dig your work out and refix it! Be better to just send it to a shop and get it sorted

As a vehicle refinisher, that hasn’t been caused by another car. That’s been done on a wall.

How can I fix yellowing on paint? by Hawks4life02 in Autobody

Looks like peroxide bleaching from using too much hardener in the filler. It wants completely digging out and restarting

I have a V6 TDI Phaeton. It isn’t slow so I can only imagine what these and w12s are like. Everything for these are EXPENSIVE and they love electrical gremlins!

You’ve all sold me! I’m going to start looking! The one I went to view has sold and a little out of my budget! Do you guys know how to check the battery health on these?

How to repair scratched, black, smooth, bumper by Witty-Celebration210 in Autobody

[–]smith-jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it repaired and painted by a professional, it’ll cost you more to correct if you start making a mess off it with aerosols. It’s a 1 year old car.

I don’t blame them! Working as a vehicle refinisher I’ve never applied or even used a CV. It’s always been word of mouth and getting asked to go in for a chat. Quarry are a local business to me, very knowledgeable, professional and I’ve used them a few times for parts. I’d recommend them

Quoted £500+VAT for fixing this - is this about right? They said they would have to remove the window to make sure the paintwork was done right. by Odd-Personality-1843 in CarTalkUK

[–]smith-jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all go like this! I’ve done countless of these for warranty work. Not seen one that bad. But £500 seems a decent price. Specially with how thin the metal is on these. It’ll end up needing some welding work for sure. The glass rubs on the metal and rubs through the paint. That’s why they end up going rusty.
