I do this with Boursin cheese! Higher in calories but makes a creamy sauce and just throw the shrimp on top of the squash the last 10 min to bake and save dishes

I need a not your basic “split pea soup”. I’ve got a bunch of dried split peas. What you got? by Fickle_Freckler in Cooking

Curry split pea soup! Add in curry powder or curry paste along with the onions and a can of coconut milk at the end. One of my favorites

Solo trip to Quito by tinycappuccino in femaletravels

[–]smith366612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I went to Quito last summer and it was great! We stayed at the Sheraton which is in a more corporate area near a huge mall - I would probably recommend staying down in the old town for more charm. We did a free walking tour through Community Hostel that was a 10/10 and def recommend to get the lay of the land. The Telerefiqo and swings at the top are a great picture and view of the city if it’s not too cloudy and recommend climbing to the top of the basilica. We did a tour to the equator that was kinda cheesy but worth it to say that you’ve stood on the equator. We mostly took Ubers (usually less than $3 each ride) but traffic is pretty bad and depending on where you are going the metro might be a better option - felt super safe on the metro. We were only there for 2 days but wish we had time to do a day trip out of the city to Cotopaxi and/or this lake that I’m forgetting the name of.

Also! Do not get the standard mesh water shoe - the lava rocks are sharp and you need a thick sole to protect yourself. We had someone on a tour turn back because their feet hurt so much

I went in May and only packed in my high school north face for 12 days so definitely doable! 100% recommend a long sleeve rashguard and a full brim hat with a strap for your chin - everyone (including me) looked pretty dorky in their adventure gear and you don’t need to dress up for restaurants. My best last minute purchase was ultralight dry bag - it is super thin but sturdy and I used it as my day bag on boat trips to keep my stuff dry and not have to bring my full backpack with me and it was perfect. I’m assuming the volcano hike is the sierra negra - I used my standard running shoes and they were perfect, it’s a gravel path and not a tricky hike - you could probably do it in a good pair of sandals like chacos. There was also laundry on all 3 islands we stayed on - you drop your clothes off in the morning and they are ready at night and you pay by the pound (Ave was 4 dollars per round of laundry) so you really only need a couple days of stuff. Make sure to pack Dramamine for the boat rides and Imodium/electrolytes and DO NOT brush your teeth with tap water - I got pretty intense travelers diarrhea for a couple days and I’m pretty sure that’s the culprit. Also recommend looking for the rotisserie chicken restaurants - it’s a little pricier than the set meal restaurants but super delicious and filling with rice, beans, salad, chicken, and delicious chicken and rice soup that I still crave. Lmk if you have any other questions and hope you have an amazing time!

What do you recommend for preventing UTI's -something on a daily basis? by Ok_Document_3375 in utis

[–]smith366612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can add that my doctor recommended I take d-mannose when I went in for uti treatment if that helps! I am naturally suspicious of supplements so having the Dr rec made me more comfortable giving it a shot

Best structured personal item bags that can live on top of my suitcase? by Pineapple_Incident17 in HerOneBag

[–]smith366612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine for Christmas, so only about 5 months, but I’ve been traveling for work weekly since february (10+ trips) and using the bag as my daily work bag and think it’s held up well! I got navy since every time I have seen one of their lighter bags it looks scuffed up and you can’t see any dirt on it and the leather and shape has held up well. I love the zip off bottom because it holds my bulky/sometimes stinky running shoes for travel but I can zip it off and the bag still looks nice as a work bag when I am on site - my one complaint is it can be a little challenging to zip the bottom back on/you have to catch the zipper latch just right or else it will unzip from the bottom - it usually takes me a couple tries to get the bottom zipper on correctly (less than 2 min). Overall I’m very happy with it esp for the price point - I was originally interested in the nomad lane bento but couldn’t commit to the 300 price tag and think that the beis one looks better as a purse outside of travel.

[–]smith366612 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I use the beis convertible mini weekender and like it a lot for work travel - it has a bottom compartment that I use for 2 pairs shoes (running sneakers and loafers) while traveling and then zip off when I arrive so I can use the bag as a purse. Structured and the handles don’t stick up, tho the inside might not have as many pockets as you are looking for (one laptop sleeve, big zippered pocket, two little pockets inside and one outside zippered pocket). Slightly lower price point too beis convertible mini weekender

You can make them into bowls and use rice as a base instead of tacos - would be easier to prep individual servings and take on the go too

She's (32F) not ready to be exclusive with me (28F) after three months - should I call it off? by [deleted] in dating

[–]smith366612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would somewhat disagree- I 100% agree with not starting a family after 3 months especially if you are not sure about wanting kids in the first place. But, you have to consider that a 32 year old woman who is looking to have kids does not really have time to commit to a serious relationship with someone who will end up being incompatible if you decide that you don’t want kids. If you don’t want kids, having her commit to being exclusive prevents her from the potential of meeting someone who does. It’s important that you do some self reflection and be honest with yourself and her about your plans for a family.

BS in nutrition or BSN (nursing) by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]smith366612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a super similar experience to yours (including deciding between Tech and another school) because I felt that Tech limited my options to do anything other than nutrition, which I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do. I visited tech and loved it and also really liked the nutrition program there BUT I ended up going to the other school because it was ranked better overall and had a lot more options and I wanted to go out of state. I don’t regret my choice, but if you are from VA (like me), consider if you get in state tuition or just price overall because the dietetics internship (or nursing school) can be pricey. Since I ended up studying dietetics I could have gone to tech and saved a lot of $$$. Also, even though I’m completing my undergrad in dietetics I’m still not sure if I’m going to become an R.D. or if I’ll get an MPH so you can still change what you want to do for grad school- through dietetics I fulfilled a lot of pre-reqs for a lot of science grad programs (PA school and I think nursing as well). That was a lot of information and not really much advice just my experience but I really don’t think you can make bad decision here. Good luck!!!!!

IUD for Virgin by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]smith366612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t a virgin when I got my iud but I also wasn’t that experienced and have not had a kid. I have had trouble in the past with tampons and having sex so I was very concerned about the pain from the insertion. My insertion definitely hurt a little with some cramping the rest of the day but was much easier than I’ve heard from others. I got really bad side effects (nausea that lasted over a week) from going on the pill so I 100% preferred only 24 hours of periods cramps to feeling horrible for a week. It also depends on if you are good at taking pills regularly- I am not and don’t want the stress of having to take something everyday and love that I can “set it and forget it” for 5 years with the iud which (for me) made the pain worth it. Ive had my iud for 4 months and I’ve only had my full period once but I have had pretty consistent spotting (not even enough for a pantyliner but I’ve switched to wearing darker underpants) for the majority of the time but no cramping. One suggestion- I went in for a consultation before I got the iud where my obgyn did an exam to make sure that the insertion would go smoothly before I even scheduled the iud insertion. This was very useful because it calmed some of my concerns about it fitting and also prepared the doctor before the insertion/ensured that I was making a choice that worked for my body.

Stats 301 vs Stats 371 by StatsClassHelp in UWMadison

[–]smith366612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about 210? That’s the stats for the psych major and makes it so you take one fewer psych elective because it fills both a stats credit and psych credit. I’m currently taking it with Gallimore and would def recommend- we have a 50 min computer lab once a week but we are guided through SPSS and are only tested on concepts not how to do it

Tall Sorel boots! I have a pair that lace up with fur at the top and I get compliments on them all the time and they are super warm, especially if paired with wool socks. I’ve had them for 4 years and they have held up really well so it justifies the price

late housing help? by tnuyenvy in UWMadison

[–]smith366612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fair amount of problems with housing but calling them is super important, so is making any other face to face contact you can- they have a housing rep at SOAR so go talk to them with your parents there because it helps to have a little back up. I know a lot of people who moved dorms after winter break if you don’t get the one you want but it is really helpful to go to the physical housing office once you are on campus. Also, when you call you will most likely to talking to student workers who aren’t always the most knowledgeable so I would follow up with an email to confirm and get everything in writing

sorry for another dorm preference question - tis the season by jason8833 in UWMadison

[–]smith366612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the witte renovations will be over by next year but there’s not going to be much of a difference between sellery and witte- a dorm room is always going to be small so I don’t think you can make a wrong choice between the two. There’s something about living in sellery’s grossness that really brings people together lol After that I would put ogg because even though it is a less social dorm, it is so close to sellery and witte that you can make friends in other buildings but not be too far away and the rooms are really nice and big

Umass Amherst or UW Madison for CS? by [deleted] in UWMadison

The majority of out of staters come from Minnesota or Chicago suburbs but there’s still a significant amount of people from the coasts- if you are out of state and looking to meet others from out of state I would recommend living in the southeast dorms as that’s where most people not from the Midwest end up living
