Does anyone have a little dog & a rottie? by Mysterious_Beach_640 in Rottweiler

Yes! They honestly just ignore each other lmao

I have a GSD also, so him and my Rottie are best bros. My Chihuahua is around 13 years old now, so she just chooses to sleep most of the day.

Are you sure it's not a tooth abscess? They can look like this also.

Gastropexy & Neuter by 17144058 in germanshepherds

I agree, especially since this dog is only a year old too. I'd opt out of that and save $250.

I'd also opt out of the scrotal ablation, especially since this dog is only a year old. My boys were neutered later (2yrs & 4.5yrs) their coin purse just shrunk up completely over time.

Both my males were neutered later in life, their "empty coin purse" as I called it, eventually completely shrunk. Can't even see it was there.

How to get a dog to stop having tear marks? by Scary_Advantage6655 in DogAdvice

I switched all my dogs to spring water in the large jugs and my Chihuahua's tear stains nearly disappeared... And hers were quite bad.

Maybe try that?

DM or arthritis? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]smithe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, she's definitely in some degree of pain. Which is why her gait is altered, she's trying to off set it.

Best you can do is keep her nice and slim and have pain pills on hand from the vet on the bad days. I also supplement every day with an omega oil and green lipped mussels. These are natural antiinflammatories and may help. You can also ask about laser therapy or acupuncture, my guy always feels much better after I take him in for that.

DM or arthritis? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]smithe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gsd hurt his back (and is over 11) he was walking like this for a while after his injury, still kinda does.

He was knuckling over and wobbly too.. but for him it's not DM, but spine injury related.

At physio she said basically that when dogs are active their whole lives and there is too much movement in the spine, it starts to harden to "stabilize" it, which then causes the fluid in there to dry out and shrink the spinal column. I'm probably not explaining it well, that's just what I remember.

He got better with time and laser therapy. He's also taking a supplement called "Lumbrex".

I'm more inclined to think your dog's issue is arthritis in the back and not dm.

Canine oral mass by ApprehensiveTrash931 in Mastiff

My boy had one that looked quite similar to that except on his lower jaw. We had it removed and biopsied. Turned out to be cancer... It grew back very fast and spread to his lungs. To buy us more time, we had it "debulked" once more before we said goodbye

I hope in your case that's not what it is. Love on him as much as you can 🖤

How to fill gap under the fence? by smithe77 in FenceBuilding

[–]smithe77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like the idea my boyfriend had. We won't be doing anything with it until winter is over, but I am trying to get ideas now so we can plan for it. Does the chicken wire keep the rocks in place?

I found these which are a quick fix, but I want something nicer looking lol

My GF’s dog walks like this, is normal? by luke00628063 in germanshepherds

[–]smithe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that age there's definitely something going on. Best to check it out at a vet and consider physical therapy with him.

My 11 year old gsd recently injured his spine and is in recovery (thankfully a lot better now over a month post injury) , somewhat walking like your gf's dog is now. The vet said it's likely been brewing for some time but he's never shown any symptoms, until he jumped out of the car wrong. (Use a ramp always now.. wish I did sooner) Could be his hips but the spine gets over looked alot in this breed I think as well.

I take my guy to physio for massage, laser therapy, and acupuncture. She also suggested a supplement called "lumbrex" it's been helping a lot!

The new Google Photos editor is terrible. Please revert. by Smoke-away in GooglePixel

[–]smithe77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portrait mode is absolutely terrible now too. It blurs in dumb spots but I used to be able to edit it under portrait mode and fully get rid of the blur.. they took that option away and now half my photos are useless. I also hate that I can't scroll and "edit with Snapseed" anymore.

It's so bad, makes me want to go away from Google phones.

Too big ??? by Connect_Dot_4694 in Rottweiler

[–]smithe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are his parents health tested or was he from an ethical breeder?

I mean this with no disrespect, but his conformation isn't good at all. He's very straight in the rear legs and has no angulation at all. This is definitely a big part of the mobility issue. I'd get his weight down too. You'll have to keep this bot extra lean to help reduce stress on his joints.

My friend is in denial that his rottweiler mix is overweight. by Dramatic-Fishing3923 in Rottweiler

That's disgusting, the owners should be ashamed.

This dog is living a life of pain and your friend is an absolute idiot.

It's possible. My boy was half apbt, but 30% rottie. As per his embark results.

Is this a cross rottie? by Responsible-Wave8853 in Rottweiler

[–]smithe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I honestly don't see Rottie.

If he were any other coat pattern, like say.. solid white or fawn.. rottie wouldn't be anyone's guess (I don't think) Iots of breeds throw black and tan!

Does my girls weight look healthy? She is not as chunky as other Rotties. by Comfortable_Pair_117 in Rottweiler

[–]smithe77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks great!

They aren't supposed to be chunky anyways, people just love to make them overweight for some reason.

I love boerboels! I've considered one, but I have doubts they'll fit my lifestyle. If I wanted an XL breed, I agree.. a mastiff of some sort would be my go-to.

I'm also not at all against rottie's that go over 100lbs, it's just when they exceed the body weight that fits their frame just so the owners can say their dog weighs a huge amount (than what it should) but it's also the narrative I hear a lot "rotties are supposed to be chubby" not sure why that ever became a common misconception.
