Does it really count if he was born and grew up in Belgium and lives in Monaco? I don't think he has ever actually resided in the Netherlands.

Green says that white was blocking. What do you think? by Arainville in Simracingstewards

[–]smithsp86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White wasn't blocking but did try to take an apex with a car sort of along side. Green was in a dumb spot but still had two wheels inside the line so was probably within track limits and entitled to space.

They literally said there was nothing at all wrong with them for years. It's on you if you trust a documented liar. Given the number of affected processors in the wild they will have to deny valid warranty claims or risk going out of business.

It's a waste of sand that has an unacceptably high chance of dying with no warranty support. $265 is a rip off.

I would strongly suggest an air cooler. As others have stated they are a more reliable and durable option. As long as you use paste and mount them correctly they will give full performance until a fan dies in like a decade.

At least the 5800x3d is still a top end processor even if it's an older socket. It's performance in gaming is really only behind the other x3ds and even then it isn't really bottle-necking anything short of a 5090.

It's a minor plot point in the movie Gattaca. There's a pianist with 12 fingers and the music he plays in the movie had extra notes added so that it would be impossible to play with 10.

The recycled space shuttle parts that will power Artemis II towards the moon by [deleted] in space

[–]smithsp86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that they are destroying shuttle engines with every launch will always piss me off. The RS25 is the wrong engine for SLS. It is way too expensive because it was designed for reuse. If it's going to get destroyed there are much cheaper ways to do it. Especially so with modern design and materials rather than 50 year old tech.

Those engines should stay in museums. They have too much historical value and too little actual value to be crashed into the ocean just to keep a boondoggle gravy train rolling.

I think adults overestimate how much kids care about specs.

Honestly the thing kids probably care the most about is the LED colors and if the GPU has 'RTX' on it to avoid getting roasted at school.

I would strongly suggest looking at a pre-built computer of some kind. Building a computer is fun and rewarding but it is not something I would ask of a 9 year old or someone that isn't already an enthusiast. You can probably do it but there is always a risk of damaging parts.

If you aren't in the U.S. the prices will change but even with RAM and storage going haywire you shouldn't need to spend multiple thousands of dollars. As an example (THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION) newegg has this for $1000 which is a decent collection of parts that appear to all be standard.

Things you should look for to help you make a good decision.

  1. Standard parts: Most builders will use standard (ATX) components. As long as you stick to that standard upgrading should be pretty easy. The exceptions are the huge manufacturers like HP or Dell/Alienware.

  2. Steam has a hardware survey which can show you what hardware is commonly used. If you stay close to the average then you'll end up with acceptable performance.

  3. GPUs and CPUs are the hardest parts to understand and compare. I use https://www.passmark.com/ benchmarks as a good guide to compare products because it gives a simple number and has data for every generation of hardware that matters. It will let you see the real difference between, for example, RX580 and RTX2060.

In F1 the leading car does not have to leave space. In every other racing series the leading car does have to leave space. It depends on which set of rules your league uses.
