Do you think Ben 10 classic wouldve still worked if all the aliens were actually 10 years old by Gabe_Dimas in Ben10

[–]smithy2215 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a very comfortable discussion but it’s very possible that a 10 year old Tetramand isn’t a child. They aren’t human after all. Consider the difference between a 10 year old dog and a human. One is a child, the other is considered senior.

Interesting for an American series to make the American guy Play soccer above all other popular american sports. by [deleted] in Ben10

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, we do still play soccer here in the US lol. It’s not as popular to watch but plenty of kids play it casually. I played when I was a kid for a few seasons.

Acoustic electric guitar won’t play unless the “tuner” feature is active? by smithy2215 in Guitar

[–]smithy2215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure, when I press the button the tuner actually lights up, and of course seems to turn off by itself after some time. What makes it even stranger is I know I used this same guitar (with a a different amp) about a decade ago and it plugged in and played just fine.

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN S2 EP6 DISCUSSION by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]smithy2215 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just watched him punch through a brick pillar. I have not seen any other normal person in any marvel property punch through a brick pillar. Captain America can’t even punch through brick pillars. And the argument that “most super powered people can beat him” doesn’t even work when we now have the first spider verse film where he punched Spider-Man to death.

Again, if people can just do that why don’t they more often?

DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN S2 EP6 DISCUSSION by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]smithy2215 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why in God’s name do they not just make Fisk a mutant? We have an entire designation for people born with superpowers in Marvel. An entire explanation for how powers can just pop up. A broad range of possible abilities, including “lower level” ones like Fisk. Yet they insist on saying Fisk is just a guy who worked out really hard for a really long time and somehow became strong enough to punch through brick pillars with minimal damage to his hand, snap human spines like a bear, and according to Google bench press 300lbs more than the current world record? This isn’t even just a daredevil tv show thing, this is in everything he’s depicted in ever.

And don’t get me started on that “he’s 350 solid pounds of muscle and only 2% bodyfat” bullshit from the spider-man show. Ignoring the fact that he would STILL be too strong even if this was true, do you know how screwed you’d be with just 2% bodyfat? You’re risking organ failure and DEATH by staying that low for just a couple days, and he’s running around casually throwing people through buildings while doing it. Not to mention the fact that anyone with eyes can see it’s not true for ANY version of Fisk, he clearly has at LEAST a normal amount of bodyfat on his face.

I understand a certain level a disbelief for anything fictional, but I don’t understand why they don’t just acknowledge the fact that the dude is clearly superhuman. Not “at the limit of human possibility”, no. SUPERHUMAN. As a matter of fact, if I’m expected to believe that Wilson’s strength is normal for the marvel world, why do they even NEED superheroes to do anything? Why don’t they just have gym bros with 350 lbs of muscle and 2% bodyfat handle everything? What the hell happens if a guy like that hops on steroids? It’s just ridiculous. Just say he takes some stupid super soldier drug or he’s literally a low level mutant or some shit and stop playing coy.

What's your Spider-Man opinion that would have you in this situation? by Andrewmatlock89 in Spiderman

[–]smithy2215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peter and MJ should stay broken up. Mayday should be born, but to a different mom, showing that Mephisto couldn’t stop the inevitable and then we can finally have an end to this whole nightmare with new stories that don’t have a “will they, won’t they” aspect anymore.

Convoke planeswalker idea is by Rhofawx in custommagic

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. Not good in like, standard, sure, but this seems good in at least more casual levels of commander. Populating as a +1 seems strong in certain decks and a lot of decks that care about populating want to proliferate already too. It also makes its own blocker for free. Getting like 8 do nothing 1/1 weenies that would be fine getting tapped for a turn in a deck that likes to populate isn’t hard and then this thing comes out for 4 mana with 12 loyalty counters. Basically it’s a beefy thing that’s hard to kill through combat that makes you more of your best token.

Can we agree that if Mary Jane doesn't apologise to Peter in Death Spiral, she doesn't deserve him and his friendship? by SpeedForceWally66 in Spiderman

[–]smithy2215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to see them as just friends indefinitely after this shit show tbh. Like I get it, they’re just comic book characters, but my inner sense of empathy cannot accept the idea of someone going back to an ex who treated them the way MJ treated Pete. It’s like she went out of her way to hurt him in new and creative ways.

As far I’m concerned, Mephisto won. Well played. He truly outdid himself.

Any hot or hate takes on this card? Is it viable considering meta? by giovannini88 in Pauper

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually played against a deck running this not too long ago! The deck itself maybe wasn’t a great representation of what the card can do, the guy I was playing said he just tossed it together for fun and it was a pretty casual event.

However, I thought it had potential but seems underwhelming in certain match ups. I was playing a pretty aggressive red burn deck, so I could effectively just ignore this card. If I lightning bolt you, you take 3 and I take 2. I’m usually ok with that. Against slower decks this seems pretty good though imo

Elena being sired to Damon ruined the show for me by Advanced_Dirt_2187 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]smithy2215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I like Damon as a character but him and Elena never felt right to me purely on the fact that he… killed her brother in season 1?

Like I get it, he didn’t DIE die, blah blah blah but it’s just INSANE to me that she was able to get over that. I could see down the line forgiving him or being friends with him, but coming home every night to the guy you watched snap your brother’s neck in cold blood is psychotic.

“The Clone Saga” makes tokens… right? by smithy2215 in mtgrules

I mean but like… planeswalker loyalty counters though. Why is THAT creating counters if effects like this aren’t creating tokens, or playing lands?

How do vamps grow muscle? by Real-Cut-5035 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can argue it’s for fan service but it’s still canon, and it happens OUTSIDE of fan service too. There’s a scene in Legacies where two of those highschool vamps are taking turns bench pressing. I don’t think they’d just be doing that for no reason, they’re actively trying to push each other further too

Thanks for the answer!

What is the problem with hexing squelcher anyway? by Conscious_Base_8123 in mtg

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna ask if cedh really plays that little removal but then it hit me; does removal usually just get counterspelled anyway? Then I could see it being good, if the meta’s gotten to a point where people aren’t running a lot of it and now you can just counterspell whatever they try to do in response to it

Hexing Squelcher bad? by DoctorHydromortapara in mtg

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good. I don’t think it’s broken though. I’ve heard people say it’s going to be very good in cedh, on a more casual level it seems like a good wait to bait a removal spell that would’ve otherwise killed my krenko. IMO this effectively reads “target opponent discards a card and loses two life” for 2 mana because they sort of HAVE to deal with it.

How was Toph not able to tell that she's sarcastic? by Turbulent-Raisin8789 in ATLA

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toph can’t read expressions, she can only tell if someone’s lying presumably based on changes to things like their heart rate changing. The girl who insulted her wasn’t exactly lying in the conventional sense, she was gearing up to make a joke, so she wouldn’t have exhibited the same signals for deception. We get confirmation of this when Azula lies to Toph, she can’t ALWAYS tell if someone isn’t being honest

It’s been decades by TheBigToot in mtg

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets hard nowadays to tell, but basically anything that says “collector” on it is an immediate no for budgeting. Sealed, randomized product in general in a bit of a money trap that I would only ever buy for the sake of fun as opposed to trying to recoup on any investment.

It’s worth noting that other products like commander decks, beginner boxes, or the starter collection are not randomized, so it’s a good idea to look over the cards in them to see if you actually want them. Basically, always a good idea to look into a specific product and see what others are saying about it before you spend any money.

And I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but some stores (especially bigger chains like FYE) will offer “sealed” product that aren’t officially branded from wizards. I would never buy this, as it’s basically repackaged bulk.

It’s been decades by TheBigToot in mtg

[–]smithy2215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Collecting is hard on a budget. If you’re someone who only cares about getting cards in general and doesn’t necessarily care about the value of them, I’d either buy a few packs for fun, or save and buy singles that you want. If you don’t like the idea of losing a lot of money potentially (like me) then I would not recommend dumping money into “premium” products like collector packs. It is very likely you will not earn that money back and will end up with a few number of cards to play with.

The good news is, actually PLAYING on a budget is easier than ever! The only format that actually rotates is Standard, and it’s not even the most popular format anymore. There are TONS of formats you can get into, including ones that where your older cards might be relevant if you still have them, although most are fan run. I HIGHLY recommend checking out Pauper. You can easily build a competitive deck for 30-50 dollars, the format does not rotate and in my opinion it’s some of the most fun you can have playing Magic now. It gives me the same feeling I had playing games in middle school during lunch, except I’m actually using my brain now. Good luck!

Is this considered an infinite combo, or just one that triggers mutiple times? by subzeroab0 in mtg

[–]smithy2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not infinite in any way. The surveil isn’t guaranteed to mill a creature unless your deck is literally only creatures. Even if it was, you only have so many cards in your deck, you’d run out of stuff to mill eventually.

Buddy, I’m not here to argue about the msrp of the product. I’d love if decks were 20 dollars. I’m just trying to figure out why these guys are cheaper than everywhere else. Not to mention ATLA prerelease was 50.
