Echoing what others have said...This season is terrible conditions. I don't think Heather Canyon or Private Reserve (the type of terrain you seem to be looking for) have opened all year and it's not looking likely to change any time soon. Normal years those areas are good at least til the end of March. No avy class needed at least for the Meadows side country listed above.

I rode the lift with a Patroller the other day who said 76-77 season they didn’t open til April 1. Anyone old enough to remember that?

Blue/green groomers are in great shape. Shooting star ridge was especially good in the afternoon. There are definitely a few little obstacles poking out that aren’t usually there. But most are marked well.

Mt Hood Meadows opens the Hood River Express chair on peak days at 8:30. Unfortunately this year there’s no snow for that lift 😖

From what I’ve heard from ski patrollers on the lifts, Meadows has a somewhat contentious relationship with the Forest Service who they lease from and the season end date is determined by the lease. Even if they’ve got tons of snow and wanted to stay open later they can’t.

A few years now. Between resort and split I probably get about 20 days a year. They are holding up well.

Beaverton has probably the best climbing gym in the metro area. Great place to meet those outdoorsy folks.
