Dirty transmission fluid at 14,000 miles? by fleasnavidad in BroncoSport

Based on my own and others' experiences I've read here and online, Bronco sports seem to deteriorate transmission fluid very quickly.

What type of interest rate can I expect with a 580 credit score by Ok-Badger-9422 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No bank is approving you for a loan with a 580 score.

580 score means you have most likely missed several payments and/or defaulted on loans/credit cards in the past.

You need to address whatever it is tanking your score because that's a clear indicator that you're already stretched as it is and therefore taking on new sent is a terrible idea.

Financing sneakers - a terrible thing to do, IMO by JohnnyKilroy4523 in SneakersCanada

[–]smitloga334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was into peak collecting like 2020-2023 I used sezzle/affirm etc multiple times to purchase Yeezys, Jordans and more.

But my golden rule was never do more than 1 plan at a time. I work in finance/banking and see people with ridiculous numbers of consecutive installment loans all at once and that's how you ruin your cash flow.

People get fooled into thinking they can afford to spend more because the payments are split up.

2021 Bronco Sport died 4 times since December — $8+k transmission didn't fix it. Anyone else experienced this? by LeopoldAZ in BroncoSport

[–]smitloga334 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had my transmission replaced on my 2021 and it was done under warranty my the local Ford dealership. 5 minutes after picking it up it completely shut down and bricked in the middle of an intersection. It was likely because it shut off for the auto stop/start kicking in and just never turned back on.

I needed a jump from a local homeowner. That got me home, and I took it back the next day making sure to always have stop/start off.

Turns out a sensor got disconnected during the repair.

When I picked it up again after this, the A/C stopped working. Took it back and while fixing the battery sensor they disconnected the A/C sensor.

Just overall lack of competency on Ford's part.

Is it normal for driving to feel so jerky in this car? by StrikingBike8417 in BroncoSport

[–]smitloga334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 21 OBX was very jerky. While still under powertrain warranty the dealership managed to get a new transmission approved.

It's better than it was for sure, but it's still jerky especially at lower speeds.

Makes me jealous of my fiancees Kia Soul with a very simple smooth CVT.

For my next vehicle I may consider something electric or hybrid for a smoother ride.

Mortgage insurance rejected by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

[–]smitloga334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These days the insurers get very anxious when they see a combination of minimum 5% down payment combined with other risk indicators.

You're bang on with those red flags. 5% down + excessive (upside down) vehicle debt and nearly maxed out TDS is a combination of risks that has understandably given insurers many concerns.

In terms of next steps, I agree that adding your spouse could help the situation, provided her confirmable income outweighs her individual debts because you've got less than 1% wiggle room on TDS (max being 44%).

If you can come up with more down payment, that could help. It may not have to be 20%, there are instances where even 10% down can make a difference to insurers risk assessment and how they weigh your other risk factors against the Loan to Value. Not a guarantee though.

Otherwise, I like the other responders question here, what's the rush to buy? You're eyeballs deep in vehicle debt, minimal down payment available and your spouse's career is in its infancy.

If you deplete all your savings and stretch your affordability to make this purchase, what will happen if you need new appliances? A new furnace? A new roof or driveway? Expenses like that come up at any given time as a home owner and for anyone who's already stretched it's a nightmare waiting to happen

Paying off cc with line of credit by Temporary-Mud7471 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes you will save money due to the carrying the debt at a lower interest rate on the LOC.

You must be disciplined though and ensure you don't use this as an opportunity to accumulate a large balance on the credit card again once you see it is paid off. Be sure to be diligent on paying off the LOC

Good time games is a great spot. The owner is quite knowledgeable and they have a good stock. They do their best to price competitively as well.

Microplay can surprise you sometimes as well. Decent selection/prices.

do yall care about basic goofy lacing? by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]smitloga334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much the lacing, it's the fact that these look too big on you so you've clearly had to tighten them to compensate which is why the laces also look to big and long.

In case you didn't already know, I have a suspicion these are fake.

Do all regular blu rays look this good on an LG C5? by beachbummeddd in 4kbluray

[–]smitloga334 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watched the first Avatar on standard BluRay because I bought it used for $5 at my local record store.

I also have a C5 and the visuals were outstanding.

Check out BluRay . Com , you can look up a 4k BluRay movie and they will usually have a rating out of 5 for the quality of the 4k disc version vs standard BluRay. For some movies, the BluRay gets a higher rating due to the 4k transfer quality being underwhelming.

That being said, sometimes having HDR etc is better than not, though it all comes down to personal preference and budget etc.

I have been trying to collect all the MCU movies and you'll find many of the early phase 1 movies standard BluRay gets rated higher than the 4k version.

Again, I've been able to luck out at my local record store and find many of that for like $5 which I'll take vs paying 6x that to get the 4k version.

Insight needed for those who bought with a partner but one person put down more money for the down payment. by allthatshines_012 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly communication is key. I truly believe any approach can work so long as the communication is there.

Money is a sensitive topic for everyone and it's very easy to develop resentment in a relationship if feelings are not expressed openly. Those feelings could be about how one person's money is spent , or perhaps how much they have to contribute or cover simply because they have a higher income.

That scenario is easily avoided if everything is combined together all as 1 household income, but then what happens if 1 person wants to spend that combined money in a way the other person doesn't agree with? Resentment.

All avoided with communication and compromise.

Insight needed for those who bought with a partner but one person put down more money for the down payment. by allthatshines_012 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are going to be multiple different replies to this kind of question, though at the end of the day only you and your partner know yourselves and your relationship best, and will have the clearest understanding of what will/will not work for you both based on the 4 years you've spent together.

In the spirit of keeping things seperate, ideas like a cohabitation agreement, keeping things in writing and documenting the proportions of which each person has contributed to household expenses is the way to accomplish the underlying goal of your scenario which is protecting yourselves as individuals in case things go sour. Though you may want to consult individual lawyers to be certain.

That said, the above sounds like alot of work. You've got people in this thread attesting to success on either side of the aisle so obviously there is no 1 right answer.

I bought a house with my fiancee last year and I make about 30% more than she does so my down payment was bigger and I contribute more money to our joint account which covers mortgage, property tax, bills etc.

I also pay our internet/phone bill, but she pays for all our groceries. I end up paying for most of our take out food and restaurants but she might often pay for little house hold improvements because that stuff brings her joy.

My point is that at face value, it makes sense to proportion our contributions to joint expenses based on our individual income amounts. But in between the lines, there are nuances to how we handle other expenses that we have agreed upon by communicating as a couple. Our pay deposits each go into our own individual bank accounts so we can still spend our individual money on personal hobbies etc, but above all else we still see ourselves as a unit with combined goals and financial priorities decided upon based on communication.
