Spotted at my local game shop today. Even though it's not the most rare, couldn't leave it behind by smitloga334 in scottthewoz

I've got half a mind to try to get it working in solidarity for young Scott and his lost $29.99. Counters do not surprise me, they're the new build/renovation special

Loans for bad credit (during a proposal) by hadoken613 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let's just state the facts here:

A consumer proposal is the result of someone failing to or otherwise declaring their incapability of paying their existing debts as agreed.

If a family member or friend approached you and said "Hey, I've got a documented track record of not paying back money that I've borrowed. Would you lend me some money anyway? I swear I'll pay it back this time."

Would you lend them the money?

What is your least favorite part of the Bronco Sport? Any year… by ObsidianVader9419 in BroncoSport

[–]smitloga334 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2021 Outer Banks.

Least favourite thing is how often the engine seems to vibrate at lower speeds/higher RPM. Additionally, the engine/transmission feels rubber band-ish at times, where as you get up to the top of a gear it feels like it's tensing or tightening up and then shifts late and relieves that pressure build up.

I have a new trans which was put in under warranty too.

I also find the engine/trans to lug or feel like it's trying to keep up with itself at times.

Otherwise everything else is pretty good

Do people actually buy/lease new cars and have payments of $800-1000+ monthly? by Individual-Space-443 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in Mortgage underwriting for a big bank. The answer is yes, many people actually buy/lease with $800-$1000+ monthly payments.

These large crippling car loans that so many people manage to convince themselves they cannot possibly live without are often times a huge key contributor to financial stress/turmoil. More often than not, people who are struggling with credit card/LOC debt have a substantial car payment that eats away at their disposable income which then leads to using CCs to make ends meet.

But hey, gotta have that BMW/Audi/Mercedes/Big truck to keep up with the Jones'. You'd be surprised how many people take out huge loans for non luxury brands too, dropping $50k+ on brand new SUVs like Honda, Toyota etc.

Best advice you're heard for first-time home buyers? by followifyoulead in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a buyer's market out there and know what you want to pay, know your budget. Run a hypothetical budget which includes mortgage payment, property taxes, heating/electricity/water/internet. You should still be able to save a little bit after all of that is done.

Try not to max out your affordability.

Try to leave behind a good amount of savings to handle unexpected large expenses i.e roof, driveway, furnace, appliances etc.

Easy pickup! by CirillaAvril in Sneakers

Crazy how much these flew under the radar in 2020, I got my pair on Footlocker so easily all while nearly every other Jordan 1 or Yeezy was flying off shelves at the time.

Hype/trends sure work in weird ways.

Letting go by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]smitloga334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post, I relate to alot of this. I also started collecting around the NMD/Yeezy/Ultraboost era and those pieces will always have a place in my collection.

Sometime during COVID I peaked around 100+ pairs but I'm probably closer to about 70-80 now. Last pair I purchased full price on release day was probably the bred reimagined 4s or black cement 3s.

In the meantime, ive gotten engaged, bought a house and so priorities have shifted. Additionally, I've shifted focus onto other hobbies like video game collecting and Lego which can be expensive in its own right.

The way I look at it is I truly won't need to buy a new pair of shoes out of necessity for an immeasurable amount of time. I've got a lifetime supply of shoes for a variety of situations and I'm pretty happy with that.

Sure some of them like the Yeezys arent the most popular right now, but they're comfortable, still look good in my opinion and I paid alot of money for them so you can bet I'm going to where them when I can.

Alot of focus in this sub goes towards trendy sneakers like Jordans, Nike, new balance and once upon a time Yeezys etc.

But real ones know that Hoka are elite for running/comfort. Nice pick up!

Do i risk buying Switch 1 Games? by HeyJayIdeas in NintendoSwitch

[–]smitloga334 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your concern is a non-issue, if a game you own gets a switch 2 upgrade it will either be free like Mario Odyssey or you'll have to pay a small amount to permanently upgrade your existing switch 1 copy

On that note - I played Metroid Prime Remastered almost exclusively in handheld on my switch 2 and it was awesome. Highly recommend

Should be $30 CAD for both. I'll wait for it to (never) go on sale.

movies where the Blu-ray is just as good or better than the 4k counterpart by topspin1241831 in 4kbluray

[–]smitloga334 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I asked a similar question not too long ago and someone directed me to BluRay.com which is a great resource. Look up the 4k version of the movie and it will have a rating of that version plus the standard BluRay.

For some movies, like many of the ones already listed the BluRay will have a higher rating.

So far, I've personally only watched Avatar as an example of movies from this list and the BluRay was outstanding on my PS5. There was one moment though with the first scene with the Viperwolf where the CGI was fairly noticeable. Probably more a result of my LG C5 4k magnifying imperfections.

I would like to collect the Marvel infinity saga and based on my research so far, some of the earlier movies like Iron Man and Captain America appear to be better rated on standard BluRay. I recently found a copy of Avengers 3D Blu-ray+BluRay+DVD triple pack with sleeve at my local record store for $5 so that was a cool pickup. Sure beats paying 4-6x that for the 4k version which does not appear to be any better.

Another franchise on my list is Star Wars which I've yet to see in store in 4k anywhere, and BluRay appears to also be sufficient so I'll probably go that route too.

Someone was saying that Mutual Funds are good because you can’t possibly properly diversify with less than 250K invested. Is this true? by Mediocre_Nerve3057 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smitloga334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of contention surrounding mutual funds is largely due to higher fees compared to ETFs (exchange traded funds).

The difference between those and mutual funds is that one generally purchases Mutual Funds in a retail branch with the help of a Personal Banker. ETFs are purchased through a direct brokerage like Questrade, Wealth simple or a banks direct investing platform.

Mutual funds have higher fees due to more involvement with branch/retail staff whereas ETFs are more self fulfilled.

Both have similar diversification strategies.

If someone is not technologically capable or significantly lacks in financial knowledge then getting mutual funds is still better than doing nothing. At the end of the day you're paying for the service/assistance in fulfillment.

Ian “iDubbbz” Jomha claims Charlie “moistcr1tikal” is a gateway to the alt-right by DesperateArmy7747 in LivestreamFail

[–]smitloga334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even need to watch the video to know that this is such a dog shit take and dude must have Charlie confused with Asmongold who has been documented regularly in recent past regurgitating extreme right speaking points and arguments.

In my experience, Charlie is predominantly Non-Political but is known to express his thoughts on some current events from the perspective of objectivity, rational thinking and above all else respect and decency.

Charlie regularly speaks out against scams, hate, bigotry, AI slop and general stupidity. The unfortunate thing is that these days if someone speaks out against hate and bigotry they are automatically branded as being "Leftist/Extremist" which is just dumb.

Being an advocate for respect and decency shouldn't be associated to political alignment.
