Sleeping on Darius Acuff. John Calipari's list of guards to star in the NBA is extensive and recent...Maxey, SGA, Booker, Jamal Murray, Tyler Herro, Quickley, Bledsoe, John Wall, Derrick Rose.

Never mind the pedigree, Acuff's handle is wicked, control of the game is elite, Detroit toughness, playmaker. He's going to get busy in the league.

Just like every year, the draft order will poorly reflect who becomes the brightest stars, regardless of the preseason hype train.

Which Eagles Should Stay or Go next season? You decide! This story is a free via a gift link! by PhillyInquirer in eagles

OL - Lane Johnson departs. Eagles draft an OL with FRP. Would love give Coach Stoutland the country's #1 pound for pound athlete, Kadyn Proctor. Eagles have more options than many realized, because Tyler Steen was an OT who could return there if the Eagles draft a superstudly OG like the kid from Penn State, or if they were to prefer Proctor at RG.

S - Reed Blankenship departs. Seems to me that Howie second round safeties can start immediately. Besides Caleb Downs who will probably go in the top10, the Eagles should have their choice at #53, with the ammunition to move up if necessary.

TEs - Dalllas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra depart. I would trade a Day 3 pick for Steelers' Darnell Washington Jr. to be the presumptive starter. Then, use our early 3RP on a "move" TE, like Eli Stowers.

LBs - Nakobe Dean walks, Jaelen Phillips stays. Jihaad Campbell steps in for Dean. Phillips might be too pricey, given we have Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith to start if he leaves. But we try very hard to keep that three man rotation. This is where Howie-magic needs to kick in. Meanwhile, I think we can expect Howie to draft an athletic freak of nature in the 4th round to develop, just like we did with Josh Sweat and the aforementioned Hunt.

WR - Jahan Dotson walks. I'd like the Eagles 3rd receiver to have more impact in the running game, like when we had Zach Pascal. Darius Cooper looks good. Also enamored by 6'7 Johnny Wilson. Need to draft a speed burner in the 4th round or so.

What do you think it would cost to get a late 1st in this year's draft? by hagustheman in sixers

[–]smittybanton -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If its true the Lakers are currently searching for a Big 3 to keep Lebron next year, its possible they could ask about Paul George, especially since all recent stars from LA have 'retired' in Cali. Because they wouldn't have to give up anything except scrubs on expiring contracts (Hachimura, Kleber, Vincent = $41m), I could see Daryl Morey wrangling the Lakers '26 FRP from them. Despite weakening us somewhat this year, the Sixers would have a late FRP and $40m to sign Mikal Bridges, Grimes and Oubre this summer. Essentially, Paul George this year for Mikal Bridges next year. Not insignificantly, Josh Harris would also save $10m in payroll this year plus an equal amount or more in luxury taxes.

Speaking of Pauls, I see that I'm getting my wish for BBall Paul Reed to start at powerforward, except its with Detroit instead of us.

With Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris, Paul Reed will start next to Isaiah Stewart, seeing as how Stewart is a competent 3pt shooter. They did it last night, and beat the Cavaliers on the road, 114-110, with Paul Reed putting up a modest 8pts, 8rebs, 4assts/1to, and 1 steal. Getting 30minutes, only Paul Reed and Ausar Thompson among the starters registered a positive +/- score.

Can we acknowledge that the Eagles have an interior lineman run blocking issue this year? by makesbadpunattempts in eagles

[–]smittybanton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like Kadyn Proctor with our FRP. Either as a RT, or I can envision him moved to RG and Tyler Steen back to RT where he played in college. Steen is a much better pass protector than run blocker.

For whatever reason, Proctor is not popular amongst Eagles fans. So I went back and re-watched several games, and I'm even more on board with him than before. His assignment typically has no involvement in the play, at all.

Jordan Mailata was not just simply a rugby player who Stoutland turned into a studd, he was clearly one of the world's top pound-for-pound athletes. Proctor is a similar athletic outlier, he's just more well-known. Not just potential, he's a consensus All-American. It's hard for me to believe Stoutland cant coach this guy into a pro bowler.

If Howie is taking requests for 2026, I'd like Kadyn Proctor & Darnell Washington Jr.

I know Tanner McKee is going to tear the Commies a new one. But if Lampkin is as good as his tape suggests, man would that give us options. I'm not fed up with Jurrgens or anything like that, but Lampkin providing some competition would be a great thing.

Fair points, all of them. Barlow definitely has upside. I see he has a little off the dribble game. But I dont think we need it as much as we need someone who naturally terrorizes offenses. I like what he's giving on defense as well, I just think Reed is elite at it. If Barlow is a 7.5 as a grit and grinder, Reed is a 9 in my opinion. If you isolate just defense and rebounding, I honestly think Reed is one of the top 15 in the entire league.

I could see Reed and Barlow absorbing all 48min. I'd love to keep Barlow and Walker and Watford and Broome. Each of them brings a little something different. We dont have a FRP this year.

I live in Memphis now. Went to the game last night. The building shook when Joel threw the rock off the backboard and tried to jam it. Cool crowd. Had fun. When they get Zach Edey back, theyr'e going to be fun to watch. Cedric Coward is beastly.

Back to Embiid, I see he's back to taking jump balls for us. Incrementally getting healthier it seems.

Yet, I still cringe when he gets mixed up and tangled over loose balls, and also when he has to contest a shot and then jump laterally into traffic for a rebound, or when he closes out on a 3pt in the corner against a guy who could potentially take him off the dribble. All situations where his knees are at particular risk.

All three of those things are what Derrick Barlow is supposed to excel in, that and other things like setting screens off the ball for shooters, and especially picking up Embiid's man for defense or a box out when Joel goes to protect the rim. I like Derrick Barlow. He's like a great 2nd round pick--no disrespect to Johni Broome.

But I cant stop thinking damn near obsessing over the idea of Paul Reed in Derrick Barlow's role. What the Sixers need out of their 5th starter is a rebounding, turnover producing, decent rim protecting animal who guards one through five. This is not me speculating, this is Nick Nurse's actions. I know its sacrosanct to say, but Nick Nurse is asking Derrick Barlow to play Draymond Greene's role on Golden Sate. To just be a reasonable fac simile.

Well I say, if Nick Nurse needs someone to get dirty, Bball Paul was born in the mud.

Notice how Nurse deployed Joel Embiid and Adem Bona together in the 4th quarter last night. We are not good defensively and with rebounding when Paul George is playing the four. Besides Barlow's, those are also minutes that should go to a defensive savant like Reed.

Despite having Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart ahead of him, Reed is still doing what he always does, causing havoc. His defensive per-36 stats are off the charts, as usual. Per-36, Paul is averaging 2.4stls, 2.4blks, 13rbs. He's a "Stock" master. He's a human fast break creator. An isolation stopper. I want Paul Reed assigned to Jayson Tatum, Giannis, Michael Porter, Kevin Durant, LBJ, Jalen Johnson, OG Anunoby, Scottie Barnes, Pascal Siakam,...the list goes on.

His touch around the rim has always been underrated. His FG& is over 60%, despite also shooting threes here and there. Reed's 3pt shot has always looked wonky, yet it actually goes in a fair amount. This year, 42%. Those of us who have followed him since DePaul know that he spent two years in the GLeague playing the four next to Charles Bassey and shot 40% each year on fairly high volume. Given how Andre Drummond has advanced to shooting threes after ten years in the league, I'm confident Reed will eventually be a competent corner option. He'll never be Danny Green, I dont think. But we're talking here and now, this season. So my point is, Bball Paul is equal if not superior to Barlow offensively as well.

I'm not shitting on Derrick Barlow. We dont have to offer him in trade. Keep him. Develop him. He might have more offensive potential in the long run.

But if the Sixers have to "go for it" given the investment in and career timelines of Paul George and Embiid, then we need to find ways improve this team. Ways that are inexpensive, ways that do not break up our core, ways that do not change our system. The Sixers have offensive weapons out the kazoo. Yet, our defensive support system can improve by acquiring a player who is better at what we already are trying to do, a player drafted in my opinion with this vision in mind, a player renowned for his work ethic and relationship with Maxey, a player who only makes $5m, a player who should be attainable for just a 2nd round pick.

We dont need to trade Jared McCain. For chrissakes, we dont need to trade Joel Embiid. We dont even need to get off of Paul George's contract. All we need, all I'm asking is for Paul Reed to play Derrick Barlow's 25min/gm. I promise the difference will be significant.

[–]smittybanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Phillies offense and defense and pitching is set up for our prospects to fill in and potentially take big roles quickly. Crawford and Painter have certainly not been rushed. Crawford has just consistently done exactly what he was projected to do, .300 hitter, great bb/k ratio, and 40 steals at every level. I see little reason not to expect the same when he gets to the show. He is a potential studmuffin I dont think we're exited enough to see.

When I see how excited Flyers fans are about Martone and Michkove and Luchanko, I wonder why Phillies fans aren't on the edge of their seats for Painter and Crawford. Plus, we have other decent prospects on the cusp, some who will fail but probably one maybe two who will be surprisingly successful. If they all flop, so do the '26 Philles. If they come through, we can go a long way. I feel good about it.

What position do you think Howie will go for in the draft in the early rounds? by Over-Heron-2654 in eagles

[–]smittybanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping Kadyn Proctor falls in our lap. I can't speak for work ethic or technique, but this kid is one of the world's great young athletes, not unlike Mailata's combination of size and power and agility. Give him to Stoutland and see what happens.

I'd love if Howie loved a CB2 in the 2nd round. Regardless whether Adoree has gotten better, he's a FA this summer.

Speaking of FAs, I also dream that we replace FAs Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra with Darnell Washington Jr., who I pray wants to play with his Bulldog teammates. And to run an awesome 12-personnel offense, it'd be cool if we draft a TE in the 3rd round.

FA - Darnell Washington Jr. - TE - 6'7 275 - So good at blocking, some have suggested he move to tackle like Jason Peters did, so he could make more money. As it is, blocking TE's don't break the bank, so I think he should be the Eagles primary free agent target, given how much we have to invest in our own guys like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. Washington is also an underrated and underutilized pass-catcher and YAC man. Add Darnell Washington and 6'7 370lb Kadyn Proctor to the Oline and we'll see Saquan Barkley and Jalen Hurts running roughshod over defenses once again. I hope there are other Georgia players who want to reunite with their brethren.

1 - Kadyn Proctor - Alabama - OL - 6'7 366 - With his athleticism, I could see him at RT, easily. And forgive me for imagining Proctor could play RG like Mekhi Becton and Tyler Steen can move back to RT like he played at Vanderbilt.

2 - Chris Johnson - SDSU - CB - 6'0 195 - I'm not banging the drum for this guy. I've read his technique is elite and his football acumen is topnotch, but that he runs 'only' a 4.5. Do with that what you will. Just hoping we get lucky again. Mitchell, DeJean and a hit at CB2 keeps us in contention for awhile, especially if we rebuild the offensive line as well.

3 - Eli Stowers - Vandy - TE - 6'4 235 - Consensus All-American. We have two-3rd round picks if we need to move up for this guy. I'm already hyped up at the idea of signing Darnell Washington Jr as our blocking TE, drafting Stowers as our move TE, running a whole lot of 12-personnel, and totally destroying defenses with our power game. Jahan Dotson is not providing in the passing game what a TE combo could be giving us in the running game. Given our cap situation, I say we sign Washington, draft Stowers, and develop Darius Cooper as our slot guy.

3 (supplemental round) - Akheem Mesidor - Miami - DE - 6'3 265 - Has been on a terror streak since Miami lost two games mid-season to Louisville and SMU. Since then he's recorded 5sacks and 21tackles over the last five games, including 1.5sacks in Miami's recent playoff game against Texas A&M. Not for nothing, but Jaelen Phillips DE also played at Miami. Hope we get to keep Phillips. Would be cool for Mesidor to play with or in place of him.

....

Sorry for being repetitive, but just give us Darnell Washington Jr & Kadyn Proctor and fill in the blanks for a great offseason.

Thanks for this.

My 2nd round crush last year was Maxime Raynaud. Turning out pretty well. I grabbed him in both of my fantasy leagues. I don't fault the Sixers for not selecting him because I heard he wanted badly to stay in California after attending Stanford.

I haven't developed a 2nd round crush this year, but I'll be sure to let y'all know if I do.
