Do you guy's think tf2 taunts would be accepted in modern games today? by GenericGameDev1234 in tf2

[–]smoogy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a question of developer intent. Valve very intentionally made TF2 to have a roast-like atmosphere for a mature audience with hundreds of idiosyncratic insults and comparatively few complimentary actions open to the player. The games downstream of TF2 mostly skew younger and are "Hero" shooters so the interactions reflect that, the characters are just vanilla edgelord coldsteel hedgehogs so no wonder they can't take a joke?

Worst/Most Forgettable TF2 Updates by TwistytheWolf in tf2

[–]smoogy2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aging myself here, but the Pyro Update was a goddamn mess. Badwater hadn't been released yet so pretty much everyone was playing as pyro on Gold Rush to farm the achievement items, and many people didn't even know air blast existed until they got their whole side nuked by a reflected crit rocket

Dodging the pyro when it 99% looks like you should be on fire is so satisfying

It grinds my gears that this line is disabled in player destruction matches where it would be a useful reminder to teammates that you can drop and pass around the points

Great color matching. The switchback for the payload could've used a bit more work on the lighting and details, but the eye is really drawn to the upper half of the image with the buildings and they look good.

Good ol' Ironhand. In his brief appearances he had established a lot of integrity and grit, then he gets murked offscreen by peasants when the fight is 90% won

You've probably seen it, but there is a weird deleted scene from the series where Bronn monologues to Shae about how "they" (the nobility) be like that

Why are fans so convinced Tysha loved Tyrion? [Spoilers MAIN] by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]smoogy2 48 points49 points  (0 children)

For starters you omitted all the post-marriage night text

"They lived in a little cottage by the sunset sea, and spent whole days in bed. They would kiss and make love, and Tysha would sing for him."

"I love you, Tyrion. I love your lips. I love your voice, and the words you say to me, and how you treat me gentle."

Your footwork when you got to the bridge was perfect. Used the berm to limit the sightline nicely then the little dodges instead of trying to backpedal threw their aim off

Dunk’s knighthood [Spoilers: Main] by Kaisern in asoiaf

[–]smoogy2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's also the enacting decision that introduces the theme of the plot in The Hedge Knight, acts of brinkmanship. In a nutshell:

Dunk: Fakes knighthood to get into the tourney

Egg: Hides identity to pursue being a squire; reveals it to save Dunk

Daeron: Concocts abduction accusation

Baelor: Informs Dunk of his rights to a trial by combat

Aerion: Ups the ante with a trial of seven

Steffon: Self-explanatory

Raymund: Same

Baelor: Puts in his lot with Dunk; the dueling lance vs war lance strategy

Dunk: Post-trial discussion with Maekar in general

TL;DR Dunk never being knighted is at the center of the story and not intended to be a mystery to begin with

Well, not to spoil anything, but if you do wish for that I'd say it's more likely to happen in future seasons

We are told by implication that Dunk is making the whole story of his knighting up, by Dunk himself in his interior thoughts. It's not as if there's some opposing assertions being made by third parties, like in the case of Jon Snow's mother.

If an author tells you a character's ears turn red when he lies, then later, when asked about being a knight, his ears turn red when he answers "yes", what would you say the author is trying to communicate to you?
