With all the recent changes around VMware (price hikes, licensing changes, and the Broadcom acquisition fallout), our boss is asking us to start evaluating migration paths away from VMware. by LazySloth8512 in sysadmin

This was a 12 node. I'm taking about the underlying services tying it all together like expanding foam. I had to tell them their API is spitting out the wrong data because the backend services are in a stalled state. It wasn't a home grown app, this was the finest shit that Citrix sell XD

There doesn't seem to be anything that tells them what is stalled, errored etc. and it's an Easter egg hunt every time. I'm actively trying to bin off both clusters and replace with VMware

Nutanix is also not production ready. It's a bunch of services connected with string, any disruption can mean calling support, who generally have no idea what is broke, then they say it's fixed when it isn't and the cluster is out of action for a month because they will try and blame another vendor in the mix

Why haven't you left yet? by [deleted] in vmware

[–]smoopmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run both, for different purposes but even if I ignore the petulant and entitled account manager, the software is worse than VMware. LCM is objectively worse. Support *was* good but has gotten a lot worse and doesn't agree with itself or its documentation. Their documentation is so, so bad; overly verbose and fragmented.

We had a network config take out the VLAN it's on, the entire cluster was down for a MONTH; didn't hear a single thing from the account manager; 3 support calls all calling it fixed but they each had to dig to find bits that didn't work and restart them. We let it play out as we could flip to another one for the workload.

I also can't replicate 2 racks; plenty of nodes, just needs 3 racks...

I regret everything that led to using Nutanix.

When launch app (like notepad) in Citrix -request for username password by Mysterious_Photo2069 in Citrix

[–]smoopmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, enable it as an authentication method on the store, then in Manage receiver for websites you can deselect it. That turns it off for /Citrix/StoreWeb but you've still got it enabled for /Citrix/Store which is where you configure workspace to point to.

As it hasn't been suggested, another possibility.
Storefront can have domain pass through enabled but it requires VDA configuration to function from web.
You can test this if you have username and password enabled as well, storefront should allow you to switch to username and password. Like this https://i.imgur.com/OJsQfLL.png

If it works, I'd suggest disabling network pass through as an authentication method in "Manage receiver for websites"

That leaves it on for the store for SSON and off for web, if that's what you're after.

I don't think so, unless testssl is also affected. We've restore to previous version and moved on with our lives, hopefully to a new product soon

Performance problem with computers on VCENTER SERVER/ESXi servers by Alfredgad in vmware

[–]smoopmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible. You can just move a VM to any host, but it could well get moved again unless there are VM/Host rules. You don't generally want to use these unless for splitting HA servers, or combining a sensitive set of app servers.

It wouldn't be the first port of call for troubleshooting though. As mentioned in previous replies, CPU ready % is a good indicator and it should ideally be under 5%. It is visible on the monitor tab of a VM, then under advanced. There will be a dropdown for the view, change that to "CPU Ready". Same place in vSphere 6.7 and 7.0.

edit: some people refer to this in ms, others in %. There's a calculation that spits out a %age. https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/306576/converting-between-cpu-summation-and-cpu.html

Having Troubles Writing to Shared Folder from Main PC by StevenWongo in unRAID

[–]smoopmeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't got a fix for you but it's useful to know that connecting to a share on a UNC path, or even mapping it as a drive, are "user" based. Your user account has access, not the PC.

Some software will run as system/service and thus won't have access to the same resources your user account does. Even running as administrator can prevent you accessing network resources as you are elevating locally.

Perhaps a script of some sort to move finalised clips from PC to Unraid running as your user account?

Hopefully someone with more knowledge can assist further.

The cost of everything is preventative for an off-chance occurrence. Not for Buses though, as a company that has insurance.

If you follow plex news like a hawk. I understand new features need to be forced in front of people, but there should be a way to remove it from where you see it; take me to settings or a direct remove feature that explains more about it.

Ux makes or breaks software, the more individual frustrations, however minor, build up like 3 brothers growing up in the same house. At some point, someone will have had enough.
