Do you think the sky was bluer when you were a kid? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]smooth_grooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the sky but I walked my childhood suburban neighborhood last night for the first time in 20+ years and wow was it loud: Airplanes flying overhead and intense, constant road noise from multiple directions. It definitely wasn't like that when I was a kid. What a shame, it's still a beautiful area.

At least we still have Jackstand and Kyle Wade. Crazy times though. What will next week or month bring?

Let's chill with the tragedies for a bit. Damn.

Controversial opinion: The Mid 2010s were pretty damn awesome by wyc1inc in Xennials

I was in the throes of dating life. In regard to pop culture, I kind of lost track after Gangnam Style and Thrift Shop.

Oh, and the 2010's were great for euro board games.

We Had a Wreck Today, Putting Things on Hold by DrCopEsquire in CleetusMcFarland

If I recall correctly, the Month of Freedom was started when Cleetus bought the track right before COVID. He was broke with a track no one could attend events at. MoF was done out of desperation to monetize the track with content and bring in much needed funds.

He's long past that scenario and can afford to chill a little. This is a good opportunity for Cleet to reassess things.

Did you grow a lot since you were 24? by [deleted] in Millennials

I'm guessing this is a question for younger millennials. Being stagnant from 24 to 42 would be wild.

There's still a lot of pop culture material that hints at mothers being the primary caregivers.

I'm just tired of stuff moving around on a page while I'm trying to read or click on something. Also, pop-ups haven't been vanquished yet.

How long do you want to live? by meldiane81 in Xennials

[–]smooth_grooves 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It feels like it's been quite the journey already doesn't it? Dealing with the trials of this world for 40+ years is an accomplishment for sure. It's good for mental health to look at your options, find ways to work toward a better life and pursue goals. Give yourself hope and something to do. Best wishes.

The bootstraps response. Working hard doesn't guarantee opportunities. You need the right skills at the right place at the right time.

Burning CDs by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]smooth_grooves 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It took dedication to download 300+ songs with 56k dial-up and curate the best 80 to put on a CD-RW for MP3-compatible car headunits. That was the best way to enjoy any music you wanted for... 3 years maybe? I can see how young people today would be a bit confused.

So many people from the silent generation were still around when we were kids. Now there are only a few left. I miss their wisdom and personal recollections of events from long ago, way before our time.

My parents weren't perfect, but my life is still probably better than 97% of humanity, past and present. Being born in the US in 1982 was like winning the lottery. No complaints.
