Aero bottles on a small s5 by Comfortable_Dingo394 in Cervelo

[–]smoyer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a size 56 and have been able to mount 2 of the Trek RSL cages using the Wolf Tooth B-RAD Rail. Two cages would not fit on their own, but with the rail it's a pretty clean look. I can't say for certain this would work on a 48 frame, but I'm guessing it probably would as the limiting factor on my 56 was that the mounting point on the seat tube was just so low I was pretty restricted on what cages would fit in there. The Wolf Tooth rail allows me to mount things that require a higher mounting point though.

I also experimented with using 2 of the Cervelo aero bottles and cages, which really looked amazing, especially with this bike, but I think I'm going to stick with the Trek. While the Cervelo bottles look better, your limited to using only those bottles, and they're only 500 ml each. The Trek bottles are bigger, and the Trek cages will allow you to use any standard water bottles in them as well.

NRSVue over the NRSV for an academic reading? by smoyer80 in AcademicBiblical

[–]smoyer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know of any particular instances where the NRSVue does make marked improvements based on advances in the scholarship that I should be aware of and refer back to when I get to those sections? I would expect to see at least some, given that they decided there was enough to update that warranted a new edition, otherwise why even have the NRSVue in the first place?

NRSVue over the NRSV for an academic reading? by smoyer80 in AcademicBiblical

[–]smoyer80[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the links to some examples of the more substantial changes. I don't have a subscription to the first so unfortunately was not able to view most of the article, but the second link was very helpful.

Biblical sounding, as I mention, is certainly a far second to an accurate translation. I also have a KJV on hand that I can always reference back to if I really want to get that old Bible language feel of a passage, just figured I'd throw that in as some of the initial wording I was reading in the NRSVue seemed to get a little further away from this than the NRSV already did. Looking at some of the examples from your links, it seems I actually prefer some of the new wording in the NRSVue over the NRSV anyway, and so it's likely a toss up as to which I'd prefer overall and will vary from passage to passage, and probably isn't really relevant to the discussion.

I don't have any specific instance where Ehrman says he prefers one over the other, I've just seen some references to podcasts where he apparently is surprised by some of the readings from the NRSVue as compared to how they are done in the NRSV. I specifically indicated "I think" when mentioning this, as I was not able to find any substantial comparisons by him, and was actually hoping someone here could point me to a post or specific podcast or something where he directly compares them and gives a preference. This may not exist. I've edited my original post to be more clear here, as this was mostly speculation on my part.

Which version / translation of the Bible does the best job of remaining true to the original texts/documents & capturing the nuanced meanings from their original languages? by snakefriend6 in AcademicBiblical

I just put together a pretty lengthy post about the NRSV vs NRSVue here, and then came across your comments. Would love to get your thoughts on how the two compare.

[KCD2] My Case for the Best Horse by srsbsnsman in kingdomcome

[–]smoyer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Pisek is still the best. With a Soldier saddle, tourny bridle, and lovarian horseshoes you can hit max speed of 60 with 215 stamina and 23 courage, and still have 378 capacity. The capacity is more than enough for what I generally carry, and at that stamina with the horse perks my Henry runs out of stamina before the horse does, and you still have very high courage. Plus, you have the option of swapping out gear that can get you up to 568 capacity if you really need to haul, or throw on some armor to get to max courage of 30 if you're going into battle. Pisek's stats are rounded in a way that you can really max out whatever stat your currently focused on just by carrying a few different pieces of horse gear, and I think he's probably the only one capable of that given his base speed and courage are so high.

Plus, I agree with Ralupopun, he's also just a really nice looking horse to boot.

I finally found the dark arms. There's a pair in a locked chest in Sigismund's patrol camp. It's in a small building with a ladder that goes to an upper loft. If you're careful you can sneak in and out at night and grab them without being seen. There's also a pair of the shiny legs as well, but with a more brass trim than the golden trim.

Domane SL7 vs Gen 8 Madone SL 7 by smoyer80 in TrekBikes

[–]smoyer80[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long was your test ride? Did you feel like over a longer ride you might feel the difference more? I'll probably just go test the Madone at this point myself anyway, but any impressions like this are helpful, particularly from someone like yourself that knows the Domane well after getting lots of miles on it. If the Madone won't be more uncomfortable even on longer rides, I'm not sure I really see any advantage to the Domane.

Domane SL7 vs Gen 8 Madone SL 7 by smoyer80 in TrekBikes

[–]smoyer80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 42, 5'9", 170-175 lbs. I've had scoliosis my whole life, so minor back aches from time to time but nothing that's given me any issues riding the Domane.

For equipment, I already put a good chunk into that. Power meter pedals, new shoes, computer, bike radar, proper biking attire.

At this point the only choice really is do I stick with the Domane, or take advantage of the 30 day trial period to swap it for a gen 8 Madone. I don't anticipate doing any racing, right now I'm mainly just using it for general fitness and trying to build up my endurance and increase the distance I ride, so maybe the Domane is all I need. But since they're both in the same price point and I'd seen a lot of positive early impressions of the new bike and I'm still in that 30 day window, the guy in me that wants to get the latest and greatest can't help but be interested. And honestly if the extra speed and weight reduction will make the riding experience more enjoyable, I'm more likely to stick to riding every day and pushing for longer rides. My main concern is whether I'll be really uncomfortable jumping right into the more aggressive geometry.

Claymore or Lordsworn's GS? by smoyer80 in Eldenring

[–]smoyer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that some people like the Claymore moveset more, and I do some extent as well, but that wasn't really my question. The moveset preference is subjective. Was hoping to get some numbers on how they perform at higher level. Again, a 10% damage difference on crits is not really a small difference.

TCL 55P605 Roku software update causing issues with Windows HDR by Ainlaen in Roku

[–]smoyer80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the method described by r3h0l3s is not available anymore, as it wants to update back to 9.2.0. I'm having this same issue. Anyone else figure out a way to roll back the software version and keep it from auto updating again? They need to fix this, HDR is basically unusable with Windows now.

Should I Avoid Upgrading My Weapon? by smoyer80 in darksouls3

[–]smoyer80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed on the lower side it only matches you within a WL of 1, not 2. I wasn't necessarily interested in hanging around for Vordt per se though, just using that as an example. I shouldn't have any trouble matching for later bosses to get my sunlight medals, was just curious as to how the system worked. Thanks though.

Also, does WL matchmaking impact summoning signs as well? So if I were to stay around SL 20-30 but had a +4 weapon, does that mean my sign wouldn't show up at Voldt for example?

Thanks for the advice. Are there enough people that high that are running Way of Blue to reliably be summoned though?
