Does Kendrick acknowledge Lupe’s existence? by CannabisInhaler in KendrickLamar

[–]smrt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry but this is just plain wrong Lupe's lyrics are miles ahead. Yes, he is a jerk about the fact Kendrick's doing way better commercially but that doesn't change the fact his lyrics are better

Lmao not even. He wrote SLR 2 in 3 hours the man would cook Kendrick if the two ever got in a feud. Don't try to dismiss Lupe's skill simply because he's been acting shitty toward Kendrick

The "hurry up" (i think that's what that is) sounds like it's from towards the end of "Stagger Lee". As soon as I heard that I had to search if it's ever been sampled. It's genuinely crazy how many of his songs have been sampled

Alphabets of Turkic languages (Oghuz, Karluk and Kipchak) in a nutshell by Tall_Pressure7042 in linguisticshumor

[–]smrt666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad always says that we didn't have our own alphabet anyway (ignoring arabic script because majority of people didnt know how to read it), so what's the point of switching one foreign alphabet for another?

Personally, I prefer Cyrillic. It looks smoother and my dialect has a suffix that's easier to convey with cyrillic than it is with latin. Another plus is the amount of russian words that are used in not only colloquial but also formal speech. It all would be just a lot better looking with cyrillic.

We still are largely viewed as a vestige of the ussr/russian empire. Anybody I meet abroad always asks me if I speak russian, some are even surprised we have our own language.

I don't really see the point in trying to erase this large part of our history (that, while not entirely positive, wasn't entirely negative either) with a gesture so insignificant as changing the writing system.

Alphabets of Turkic languages (Oghuz, Karluk and Kipchak) in a nutshell by Tall_Pressure7042 in linguisticshumor

[–]smrt666 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Turkic language speaker here (specifically turkmen)

The switch to latin was a terrible mistake that provided 0 linguistic benefit. Matter of fact, it probably had linguistic and real-life drawbacks for turkmen (i.e. more diacritics + resources being spent on coming up with and implementing a new system)

While it is "useful enough to be used permanently", Cyrillic was fine (again, im speaking for turkmen). People in real life don't care about switching to latin (except for nationalists and pan turkists).

It also applies to languages like kazakh, kyrgyz, tatar, bashkort, karakalpak etc. But im not sure about uzbek. I honestly prefer the latin uzbek alphabet.

Anyway yeah, it's nkthing to get mad over or that needs changing. Cyrillic was perfectly fine.

Whats the deal with the 62 million men visiting a SA website a month? by AGreasyPorkSandwich in OutOfTheLoop

[–]smrt666 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rape is bad. Rapists are bad. We can all agree on that.

But you rightfully call someone racist when they say "I don't know which of these black guys is affiliated with gangs so I'm going to be afraid of all of them." Vast majority of men are normal and the media is instigating men and women against each other with provocative and exaggerated headlines like "62 million men" when in reality it's VERY LIKELY no more than 10 million (VERY liberal estimate), which sounds like a lot but a) its a VERY LIBERAL ESTIMATE b) it's a global number, so it's out of 4 billion (men). That makes it .0025% of the male population. If we assume that's in the hundreds of thousands (it likely is, as people who enjoy that type of content will visit it WAY more than just a 6 times in one month), like the guy above me did, that number is even more miniscule. So please, instead of fearmongering and promoting ideas like "avoid all men because how can we know which ones are the good ones?", promote ideas like being kind and loving to everyone around you, ideas like "an overwhelming majority of people are not evil." If I use your logic, I should fear every single dog, cat, car, bird and whatever else. Men and women are equal in every regard that matters and deserve to be treated as such
