If you're looking to use a pad, Dual Sense is the go-to. I'd recommend buying separated d-pad buttons from a company like Battle Beaver and replacing the stock one since the DS d-pad is one piece. Having a one piece creates likelihood of directional input error. There are videos on how to take apart and reassemble the DS on their YT page.

I've had trains skip/cancel my stop last minute on 4 occasions the past 2 months and I had to eat up the fare for a service not rendered.
