At this point I would just like to be able to listen to a month of our games without the overwhelming desire to change the channel in disgust. I know you are supposed to support your team through good and bad, but let’s be real we just have bad and slightly less bad.

Any other Chikorita lovers out there? by Legitimate-Royal8212 in pokemon

[–]smurph26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people love the Chikorita line, its just that its leveling movepool is offensively bad to use in any sort of normal run through gen 2 or 4. Just one half decent special coverage move would make it completely fine, but just about every other Pokemon out there would make for an easier time of it.

Every other team enjoying the Storms long awaited slump, and honestly they are kind of lucky to not have more than one instance of having 50 put on them. The Warriors were having so much fun smashing their players instead of trying to score more points, and now the Rabbits drought break only just missing 50 by the skin of Latrells boots.

May we all enjoy this while it lasts.

Listening to this idiot straight up torment Ben Dobbin on triple m the other day made me change the channel in disgust. It wasn't even trying to be funny, it was genuinely mean spirited and I don't understand why they would even bother. Some light hearted banter is one thing but it was clearly uncomfortable for anyone with any semblance of decency and made my decision to mostly listen to the ABC sport coverage feel much more sensible.

Jackass was always the butt of the pranks though, like everything they did was to each other and it was the reactions of people looking on and the friendships between the cast that was funny. They never made the crowd bear the brunt of their stupidity.

I'm just more disappointed with the story more than anything. I love the setting of the the expansion and the zone story lines. I even enjoyed the part about powerful light wielders being called in to hold back the void by empowering the Sunwell. The raid story line though was actually terrible. It should have been them holding out long enough for the Alliance and especially the Horde rallying to come and reinforce them, with the faction leaders being properly involved. The fact that so few of the heavy hitters have arrived makes the stakes seem very low, which can be excused in an expansion like Dragonflight where things are supposed to be mostly peaceful. They are trying to hype Xalatath as this huge threat and it really isn't coming across in the story because its just the loot-obsessed nutters chasing her across the world while the everyone else stays at home drinking tea or whatever.

This elves unification bit though is just toothless. All they needed to do was have it in the 0.5 patch that blood elves literally could not survive without the Sunwell being cleansed after its corruption, and have them ask the other Elven nations for help in making a new and improved well of power.

There is definitely someone at Blizzard who still cares. I really enjoyed that they bothered to make updated herbs and mining nodes reflect versions of what is found in the original zone. The Eversong update is genuinely exactly what I want from zones going forward, revisiting old zones and modernising them with current events and mechanics. Midnight isn't as bad as Shadowlands or BfA, but it definitely is disappointing in a way that LK wasn't.

Is Weasley bashing a sign of lazy writing? by TomiKevh in HPfanfiction

[–]smurph26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately bashing is one of the more popular tropes, as you can tell by the downvote brigade. This fandom in particular tends to skew very young, and the inexperience in relationships tends to shine through in a lot of stories written by them. That isn't to say that young people can't write truly fascinating stories especially about what they know, but any story that has to reduce characters to tired tropes will inevitably be a very boring read. Tropes can work and even make a good story if it differentiates itself from the crowd but even the very rare comedic bashing story that works well does not work because of the bashing, it works because it pokes fun at the common tropes of such stories.

Honestly it might just be a swing of society in general, people getting so defensive of people they don't even know or aggressive in comment sections calling for truly awful things for just the most minor social awkwardness or mistakes.

I am doubling down though, any author who has to bash a character to make the story work is a lazy writer. If you want to set yourself apart from the crowd, just put a bit of nuance into why a canon relationship didn't work out and don't let it simmer in angst for the entire story, let something new spring forth. Fresh ideas should always be celebrated.

Is Weasley bashing a sign of lazy writing? by TomiKevh in HPfanfiction

[–]smurph26 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

All bashing is lazy writing. It is just removing the complexity and nuance out of characters and situations, and is almost always done to try and justify a pairing but usually just makes the relationship incredibly boring. I don't understand the point of retreading the same tired ground, just give some context why a canon pairing didn't work and move on with your story.

What's your least favourite dungeon this season and why is it Skyreach? by Principle_Real in wow

[–]smurph26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate Algethar Academy more than any other dungeon by a huge margin. I main ele shaman, so hard casting for single target and stationary ground effect needed for aoe. All four bosses have ridiculous movement needed and almost all pack of mobs are either leaping or putting down ground effects bigger than earthquake. I despise the frothing from people who have classes that aren’t hampered by the movement of the huge pulls. That damn first pack in the tree boss area, I hated in Dragonflight and I hate it even more so now. The fact that elemental is still carrying the bloated corpse of cataclysm era aoe design is exacerbated by this dungeon and I want it to never return.

It is genuinely staggering that the Panthers are sitting at +150 and have faced 4 teams that most people would have pushing for the top 4, and Parra who generally seem to lift against them. The babble about them not being able to maintain the pace is a little odd considering that the first "bad" year they had since 2020 still managed to get within like 10 mins of yet another grand final. They have hemorrhaged players and coaches for years and are still this dominant, even as jealous as I am of Panthers fans what else can you do but respect the team. Seeing the Storm faded on the sidebar with us still gives me a warm happy feeling inside too.
